printing fails for SPOOLSS OpenPrinterEx request
Hi,
I have a problem with my printing setup of a windows XP client with a samba server.
The windows driver seems to use different ways of smb/printer communication for printing in normal/duplex mode and for printing brochures. The latter failes silently.
normal/duplex printing uses: SMB Open Print File Request
brochure printing starts with: SPOOLSS OpenPrinterEx request
I recorded the network

SAMBA replies SAM LOGON request from different ip alias

When I try to join a new Windows client (XP SP3) to the domain. It asks our wins server for

Long Delays Displaying Small Folders in Windows Explorer (samba-3.0.10-1 FC2)
Hi,
I'm trying to replace a windows fileserver server with a Fedora Core 2
samba server in our Windows 2000 ADS domain.
A performance problem occurs when accessing certain samba shares from
Windows Explorer on either an Windows XP or a W2K client machine. It
can take up to a minute for explorer to list files in a share folder
containing only a few files! It eventually does, but but reports

server response does not appear to correspond to request
Here is a second, somewhat related question to my last one. When
looking over the network trace I have ran into something I cannot
explain. It may be quite proper, in which case I am misreading the
trace. But I would appreciate it if someone would explain this to me.
In packet 109 of the trace (during a login with no profile on the
server), I see a "NT Create AndX request"

Problems with Windows 2003 connecting a Samba server
Hi list,
I am encountering a problem in connecting a Windows 2003 to a Samba
3.0.21b server. The Samba server is configured to have a security =
share option, so that no password is needed. I can connect to the
server by typing "net use z: \\192.168.51.1\data", and it is
successful. However, if I try to do "dir z:", no file found! Same
behaviour are found in Windows

Error: Invalid TID with samba 3.4
Hi,
Running samba 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 on an Ubuntu 9.10 installation. I've
previously been running ubuntu intrepid ibex (samba 3.2.3).
Since the upgrade I've had issues with a device not finding any
wokrgroups/domains when doing an nmb lookup. The device is a wireless
music player that can make an SMB connection and has worked fine until
the upgrade.
When sniffing the network, I get a log

XP SP2 client doesn't find netbios alias servers
After upgrading XP to SP2, I can no longer connect to server aliases.
The client reports an error 53, "The network path was not found", when
doing "net use * \\prof\profile.
Mapping to a share on the real netbios name works fine.
Anyone else seen this?
Setup:

Permission problems after an NT4 -> Samba LDAP PDC migration
Hello,
I replaced an NT4 server by a Samba 3.0.14a ldap server following the
instructions in 'Samba by example'.
Everything works fine except for some files on a W2003 SP2 server:
- when the W2003 server uses the Linux PDC, from a WinXP client, some files are
not writable, and ACLs can be listed but not changed.
- when the NT4 server is up, the same files on the W2003 server can be

When opening a file it takes up to half a minute!
Greetings,
in our small network with about 10 Clients I got a problem when opening
files or directories. If there were no actions between server and client
for about 2 minutes or more, the very first action (open file, change path,
etc) needs a long long time.
The problem occurs on some clients (win 2k/xp), but not on every client. I
tried a working smb configuration from home, but still no

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi!
I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help!
I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can
be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a),
and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3
from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more
than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

smbd uses 10 to 15% CPU w/Vista client
For quite awhile I've noticed that smbd uses 10-15% of my CPU (Pentium
4) when nothing visible is going on. I have a couple of laptops on my
home network, and some experiments showing that powering on the Vista
laptop (other is OSX) is sufficient to raise useage from 0 to 10-15%.
The screen is locked, although 2 user accounts are logged in. Wireshark
seems to show a lot of chatter,

Disconnected...:( It MUST be a kernel problem OR a Samba problem.
Here's what you asked for - along with some tcpdump data that shows
what I'm thinking the problem is...If anyone knows what this is - I'd LOVE to
hear it - I've seen lots of posts about this type of error from
others, and none of those folks have posted their problem being fixed
(they probably gave up on it like I did for awhile...)

Mates,
I have been watching a developing problem over the past few weeks. Most
likely a M$ patch to XP that has caused problems. What happens is that XP
clients try to open the standard "File" -> "Open" dialog (like in word, or
whatever) and the file open dialog hangs and stops responding for 15 seconds
or so. I have

Windows 98 Client or Linux problem?
I'm running Samba on a Linux 7.2 recently upgraded to 8.0 system. I have
a problem that occurred
in 7.2 and also occurs in 8.0. My clients are Windows 98. If a client
reboots then regularly it is
not possible to access files on the Linux server without restarting smb
on the server. On the
Windows 98 clients, in network neighbourhood I get \\Robert is not

process cannot access file.....on home shares, 3.0.24 on Debian.
Hi,
After upgrading samba from 3.0.14(Sarge) to 3.0.24(Etch) I cannot save
file I have edit anymore on home shares, local shares works.
It's possible to create/delete/rename dir/files. But if I try to edit a
file and save it windows complains:
"The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a
portion of the file"
Copy a file gives the same error.

Suspicious activity on domain
Hello,
Last week I have detected with Zabbix that a member of my Samba domain
had been downloading at a rate of around 8 Mbps for two days and a half.
When asking the person to whom belonged the machine, he didn't know he
was downloading anything but he said he had observed his machine had
slowed down since then. I took a tcpdump of the traffic before
terminating his session on Windows

Samba machine wanting to connect to 192.168.192.1
I have a samba machine used by some users but most users use the windows
2003 server.
It all works fine except when one particular user connects to the samba
machine the samba machine will then try to connect to 192.168.192.1.
This drives our netowrk people crazy because we don't have any machines
in the network that are 192.anything.
We are using a fairly old version of samba - 2.2.3a. At

OS X slow with Samba server
I have an Apple iBook running OS X 10.2 connected to my network via an
802.11b wireless network. When I transfer files via SMB with my Windows
2000 computer, the speed seems reasonable. However, when I connect to a

Debian, the speed is only about a sixth as fast (transferring files to
or from the Win2k box is about 6
