Domain Trust and smbclient error.
I am trying to get a W2K server to trust a samba 3.0 server.
I followed the directions in the InterdomainTrusts.html file and receive
an error that the domain is not found when trying to trust it.
my samba server is configured to use pam to authenticate. I had to add a
user named "w2kdomain$" on the machine before I could run smbpasswd -a -i
w2kdomain. Once I did that, it created the

TDB functionality document
Hi,
Does someone know a document which explains the TDB structure.
functionalites, and format of the TDB files etc.
I need to understand why some of the TDBs like messages.tdb, unexpected.tdb,
brlock if not read_only, locking.tdb, session.tdb, wins.tdb are called with
TDB_CLEAR_IF_FIRST tdb flags.
Why some TDBs are opend with O_RDWR|O_CREAT flags viz. gencache.tdb,
group_mapping.tdb,

tdbbackup with bouncing/shutting down samba possible?
Hi,
We are a small company, which has just started using samba.
Recently we have faced a few issues regarding the TDBs getting corrupted.
I have read that the only way of getting around this issue, is to regularly
take tdbbackups.
But, this process needs a downtime of my samba server, which we would not
want.
Instead, is there a way where I can take the tdbbackup with out shutting
down samba

Security permissions issues after changing idmap backend from RID to AUTORID
Thanks for the reply. Now we end-up with mix uid/gid from both ranges in
cache TDBs. Few user logins are denied with below error in smbd.log,

Print queue show jobs when queried from windows, nothing in cups
We have a print server running RHEL 4, w/ samba-3.0.33-0.15.el4
When viewed from windows, one queue on the system has the "remains" of 264
print jobs - some dating back to April, but I can't find where the
information is coming from. Apparently the jobs print fine, but then the
information sticks in the queue information.
Running lpq on the Samba system shows:

Over the last few days, our users have started experiencing delays in

In the log files (for the client), we now see

issues with printing
We have recently started having an odd problem with printing via samba (3.6.1). Samba is joined via security = ads to our domain. We do not use winbind on this system. Our account usernames are provided via openldap.
User starts system (generally windows 7 64bit, but we've seen it on 32bit windows 7 and XP), sometimes they can print, sometimes they can't. If they reboot, they can almost

Problems with TDBs on CTDB-managed Samba instance
Hi Jeremy,
Thanks so much for your reply! As a matter of fact, we did just that around 3:45p yesterday when our CTDB cluster was unable to self-heal from the latest in this series of failover events. Here's how the situation went down:
1) We saw flapping identical to that described in my original post
2) After about 30 minutes of waiting, CTDB was just spinning with `smbd` repeatedly

Problem with 3.0.10 and 3.0.11 with 1 smbd process using99% cpu
I have this same problem on 3.0.10, and I also "fixed" it by deleting
the tdbs. My problem, had nothing to do with printing, it was happening
once I started winbindd with security = ADS.
Jerry, what would we need to do to track this bug down in the tdb code?
I have logs at level 10, ltrace output, and a backtrace.
Do you think that there were changes made to the tdb code in 3.0.12

3.x to 4.x (classic PDC) migration & group mapping problems
Hi Samba wizards! Thanks in advance for your support!
I am working on migrating an existing Samba 3.x PDC to new hardware,
Samba 4.x and, eventually, LDAP.
I'm finding out in the process that I don't understand it at all :-)
Old configuration was 3.x as PDC, with tdbsam backend. Both NIS and
winbind are running on the same server (as well as smb and nmb of course).
Since I want the

Two Windows users with two passwords must map to the same unix user
Hello,
I have no idea how to implement the following scenario apart
from running two instances of samba on the same machine...
I need a setup where two different Windows users will authen-
ticate with two different passwords but get mapped to the same
unix user.
That is
JOE got password PASS1 and maps to unix user joe with uid 1000
and
JACK got password PASS2 and maps to unix user joe with

smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root..
Greetings list,
I just upgraded my main file server, and copied over a dump of my LDAP
database, samba conf files, tdbs, etc.
Everything fired up OK and runs, except:
-Some users (perhaps 5 or 6 out of 125) can't log in, getting the "domain
unavailable" message
-I can't rejoin them to the domain - the process appears to succeed, but
doesn't
-One of the machine accounts
