Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again: I am using tdbsam as passdb backand. I have added root user with pdbedit. The machine trust account was added on the fly. I have added the user with pdbedit. I have created the user in /etc/passwd. When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it

where samba stored passwords in tdbsam backend?
Hello I use the backend tdbsam. I have just imported users from smbpasswd backend pdbedit -i smbpasswd -e tdbsam in global section I set passdb backend = tdbsam I use policy (pdbedit -P maximum and minimum password age) to change passwords every three months and when the passwords were changed none of the files (smbpasswd ,passdb.tdb , secrets.tdb in /var/lib/samba/private) has not changed

passdb backend issue: setting other than 'smbpasswd' does not work
I'm currently running the samba3x packages on Centos 5.6. I recently switched to them from the SERnet Samba 3.3 packages to Centos Samba3x packages (smbd now reports Version 3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.1). At the same time, I switched to ldapsam as a backend. Everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to change a user's password with smbpasswd (as root). smbpasswd did not report any

converting smbpasswd to passdb.tdb - machine accounts
Hallo, I'm trying to convert smbpasswd to passdb.tdb. cd /etc/samba/private # (where smbpasswd lies) pdbedit -i smbpasswd -e tdbsam:/etc/samba/private/passdb.tdb converts all human users, but it converts (or transfers) no machine account. In "smbpasswd" are many entries beginning with (p.e.) mac001$ for these accounts, pdbedit -L -v | grep -i mac shows

Resetting passwords using pdbedit?
[Environment: Samba 3.0.2a with "passdb backend = tdbsam" ] I want to be able to reset user passwords from the command line on the Unix server, without knowledge of the existing password. If I was using an smbpasswd file, I could call the "smbpasswd" command and it would edit the file. But with a backend, that's not available to me. The "pdbedit" command will

How to regenerate passdb.tdb
Hi, I was having problem with the tdbsam backend in which a particular user got listed twice with pdbedit. (http://www.mail-archive.com/samba at lists.samba.org/msg109110.html) Without much hope in fixing it, I am planning to re-generating passdb.tdb on my PDC by: (1)exporting tdbsam to smbpasswd backend (2)delete passdb.tdb (3)re-import smbpasswd to tdbsam backend With the command `

multiple passdb backends for standalone fileserver?
Hi, i (naively) would like to have local AND ldap users (and groups...) on my standalone fileserver (security = user). "passdb backend = ldapsam" already works OK and i found some old posts on the internet about "chaining" passdb backends. so i tried "chaining" ldapsam and tdbsam, but although testparm doesn't complain and i can add local users with

Pdbedit again...
Hi, I have to edit all my samba users password expiration time and users full names. (I changed from samba 2.2 to 3.0 today.) But pdbedit doesn't work. example command: pdbedit -r -u %user% -f "%NAME%" I installed samba 3.0.5-2.src.rpm from samba.org on RedHat ES 3. Is it still a bug? Thanks! Nicole

passdb.tdb not updated when changing passwords
I'm using samba on CentOS 3.7 (3.0.9 + rh patches) I had smbpasswd as backend and I'm testing migration to tdbsam. After exporting successfully to tdbsam and setting passdb backend = tdbsam in smb.conf if I change from inside a windows xp machine the password ot the user and then pdbedit-Lv user I get Logon time: 0 Logoff time: ven, 13 dic 1901 21:45:51 GMT Kickoff time:

After migrating users to ldap, passwords still stored in passdb.tdb
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc.) Initially I had the server configured as a domain controller with the "passdb backend = tdbsam" option. The underlying unix accounts were stored in LDAP (Sun Directory Server.) Those accounts are also used for non-Samba services. Since I have domain trusts with NT domains, I am using winbind and idmapping. The idmap data was

Problem with pdbedit -e, Samba 3.0.11
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey all, Looking to upgrade from Samba 3.0.11 to HP CIFS/9000 2.03 (which is basically a patched Samba 3.0.22) on HP-UX 11i. Looking at simultaneously moving from smbpasswd as my passdb backed to tdbsam. Looks pretty idiot proof, and I think I should have very little trouble. However, here is one slight problem that I'm running into so far: #

Problems with several accounts after Samba 2.x to 3.5.8 migration
Hi everyone, my last question was some kind of bumpy and hard to understand. So I will try a better explanation of the issue this time. I was running a Samba 3.0.26a and tdbsam based PDC with roaming profiles for several years. Now the need came up to serve Windows Vista and up with roaming profiles, too. I patched all Vista, 7 and Server 2008 R2 nodes with the .reg provided in

pdbedit: importing smbpasswd to tdbsam
Hi there, I'm trying to import a smbpasswd-file into a Samba 3.0 installation on Debian Sarge using tdbsam as sole passdb backend. Copying pdbedit's documentation I used pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/root/smbpasswd.old The error message returned was tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [foo] without a primary group RID where foo is the username to be imported. Impossible to change Primary group
I have Samba PDC and use tdbsam backend. I use the version 3.0.11, but recently I have exchanged it for the version 3.0.23c. Now I have a number of problem. Here is one of then. Upgrading from workgroup to domain: experiences & gotchas (LONG)
I've decided to share my experiences with the list in hopes that it will help someone else doing something similar avoid the problems I experienced, and hopefully, have a better experience. Here's the scope of my project: Original installation: - Samba 2.2.x series server - Workgroup security (read: local security, not domain security) - no domain controller - password database is

Authenticating against samba passdb using PAM
Hey! I'm trying to get a web application I'm developing to authenticate against the samba user database. As far as I can tell, what I have to do is "simply" set up a PAM service that uses pam_smbpass.so, and then use a PAM client library to authenticate against it. For the second part, I found a Python example that authenticates against a given PAM service, and it works fine

Please help, I am experiencing a weird error when trying to join a winXP Pro workstation to my samba3 + LDAP Domain. When I specify the account to on my system that has uid 0, I receive a user account cannot be found error. Now I know this isnt the case since I can browse the samba server with this account. Note: it is in tdbsam not ldap When I look for the machine account in the ldap

Issues after Samba updating a Samba PDC to 3.0.23c
Hi, last Saturday we reinstalled our fileserver to setup redundancy using DRBD and Heartbeat. We also upgraded Samba to 3.0.23c, which is acting as a PDC. We are using OpenLDAP to store accounts. I populated the OpenLDAP database using a LDIF file that I created on the old server before shutting it down. I also transfered all Samba tdb files to the new server. Everything went pretty
