What triggers a make_user_info_map
We have a quite large samba installation/domain spanning 4 campuses with a DC/LDAP on every campus. On one campus, one big computer-lab behaves a bit strange. All the computers connects to the DC every 2-3 minutes or so and triggers a make_user_info_map mapping 100-300 or so username's to RID's. This places high load on the LDAP-server. It doesn't matter if anyone is logged on.

Doman Group in new version of samba
New to list sorry if this has been address but didn't see it in recent archives. FC1 with Samba 3.0.2 I had an older RH73 system running samba 2 on it and recent moved up to FC and samba 3. Most everything transfered over well. I just took my smb.comf from the old system and put it on the new system and then ran swat making sure I didn't forget anything. Restarted server and wow... It

Hi Louis, Thank you for that. I don’t have a /var/lib/samba/bind-dns/dns/ , only have /var/lib/samba/private/dns. Apparmor is now stopped and masked. I had masked the smbd and nmbd post the migration, have masked the winbind now. Have edited samba and bind as per your suggestion, changed the named.conf.options and krb5.conf Rebooted the server post the changes and tried to join a windows 7

Someone with "Access Denied" from Windows pls try this test to compare notes with me
Long day yesterday for us here, first production implementation of Samba has to be rolled out and the client's old network reinstalled... cause: this "access deneied" issue which seems to be randomly affecting Samba implementations and from what I can see folks say Samba 3.0.2 was the last good build. If that describes you, please test this as I have come up with a way to turn the

Hai, 1) apparmor, disable it, and try again, so we can confirm if its an apparmor settings. 2) winbind is starting from systemd while as AD-DC you should disable that. - stop the member parts of samba and systemd. systemctl stop winbind smbd nmbd samba systemctl disable winbind smbd nmbd samba systemctl mask winbind smbd nmbd samba - enable the samba-ad-dc part in systemd.

Unable to set userid in AIX 3.2.5
I'm trying to share a UNIX directory among users accesing it from Win95 boxes. I'm using the "force user" directive but it seems to not work under AIX 3.2.5. I got the message in the logs: Can't set uid (AIX3) Grepping around I found that this message comes from the module uid.c.Before I start to mess up the code, I want to know: There is any workaround for that?

Can I translate the userid to match the UW-POP3 server?
OK, I have been running the UW-POP3 server which currently translates all login ids as lowercase (i.e. Anthony becomes anthony). Now the Dovecot server is very flexible and currently I have not found how to translate the upper case characters to lowercase. What configuration setting will translate the userids to lowercase? -- Albert E. Whale, CHS CISA CISSP Sr. Security, Network, Risk
