LDAP Idmap
I'm having quite a bit of trouble getting an LDAP directory set up for
the idmap backend for winbind. I've been working on it for quite a
while, and haven't found any very helpful websites or anything. I've
found quite a bit on how to set up a PDC using LDAP, which would be
nice, but I already have the PDC... I just need LDAP to host UID's and
GID's. The things I'd like

Samba3 - LDAP - USRMGR.EXE
Hello,
have some little problems adding user to domain with USRMGR.EXE
My System runs on SuSE 9.1 (2.6.5-7.75-default), samba-3.0.4,
smbldap-tools-0.8.5, openldap2-2.2.6
If I try to add a new user with USRMGR.EXE I get an error "Access denied",
but if I look into LDAP the new user was correctly added to LDAP.
If I confirm the error-message and then cancel the "NEW USER"

Re: Samba3 - LDAP - USRMGR.EXE
passdb appears a lot of times in smba logs, even if it uses LDAP as a
backend, as in my config.
Maybe the log message should be changed in the code for something easier to
debug... But this error message you said, only appears if you try to add or
delete the user twice from LDAP, so you should remove "-a" from the add user
script and comment out the user delete script if you intend to

Samba3 GPO
Hi @all,
I have some question I can't find a explanation.
I have a standalone Samba3 as PDC. It works perfect with LDAP.
Now I want to implement Policies.
1) Is it possible to use GPO from ads ?
And if so, where to store this policies.
2) Or can I only use policies created with poledit from NT4 which should
be stored in NETLOGON.
Any help or links about this would be apreciated.

LDAP idmap backend
I've been trying to get an idmap backend working in an ldap database (I
know, not really a database). I think I got most it worked out, but I'm
having a problem getting samba to bind to the ldap server.
My smb.conf says (just the important stuff, with my domain taken out
because I'm paranoid):
idmap backend = ldap:ldap://ldapserver.subdomain.domain.com:389
ldap suffix =

Access denied error when trying to join XP to Samba Domain
Hi everyone,
I know this one has been addressed before. I have had so much trouble
getting the IDEALX scripts to work that I set about writing my own and
they almost work. The trouble is with the add machine script. The
first time I do the join, I get an access denied error message on
WinXP. I have verified that an entry for the machine was successfully
created in ldap. Then, I try again

Ghost Image + Winbind = Panic
I had a test machine up and running Samba, joining an AD domain, and set
up with winbind... when I ran "getent passwd" it would list all the
local users, and all the domain users. I could also log in as a domain
user without any problem. So, I made an image of the hard drive, and
copied it to 7 other machines. Now, those 7 are having a strange
problem. I changed the names and IP's of

Unix Extensions
I have a Samba 3 server, and a client with Samba 3. The server has a
share for home directories, and the client is trying to mount it, but
after it's mounted, I still can't create any symbolic links. Also, the
GUI login (Red Hat Enterprise default) isn't working, but I think that's
just a symptom of the symbolic and hard links not working.
Any idea why, when I enable unix

Strange problem with icons on the desktop
Thanks everyone for helping me get the home directories working over
SMB, especially Ben Ford for his workaround for the Xauth and GDM.
Now I've got a problem that, most likely, nobody's ever noticed
before... or is something specific to me. I've got a Linux client, and a
Samba server, and a Windows 2000 server, both set up EXACTLY the same.
I've got a test user and the home

Winbind Trusts on Multiple Domains
I've got an interesting problem that I'll try to detail here as best I
can.
My Setup: We've got a W2K domain with 2 W2K DC's and a Samba member
server that hosts the shares, including home directories. We've got both
Linux and Windows clients (2000 & XP). For reference, the samba server
will be named "SAMBA" and the Windows PDC will be named "PDC".

idmap_ad compile problem
I saw a message on this mailing list about compiling the idmap_ad.c,
back in October of last year... and I'm having the same problem... When
I try to compile it, the message I get is:
gcc -I/usr/include/linux -I/root/samba/samba-3.0.4/source/ubiqx
-I/root/samba/samba-3.0.4/source/popt

CIFS Mounting Problem
I'm having a problem when I try to mount a CIFS share on a Samba 3.0.5
server from a Samba 3.0.2 workstation. When I type:
mount -t smbfs //ip-address/share /mnt/point -o
username=username,domain=DOMAIN
It mounts, and I get no errors whatsoever. I can do almost anything I
want (except for symbolic links and hard links, which is why I want
CIFS). When I type the exact same thing, but change

Winbind + LDAP Backend
I'm trying to set up Winbind to store all the UID's in a local LDAP
database, but am having some trouble. I think I got most of it set up,
but when I run "getent passwd", I get several hundred errors like this:
[2004/07/13 11:59:03, 3] sam/idmap_ldap.c:ldap_get_id_from_sid(588)
ldap_get_id_from_sid: Failure looking up idmap entry (No such object)

Samba 3 + LDAP as PDC join domain problem
Hi all,
I've setup Samba 3.0.5 + OpenLDAP (ldapsam) and everything work correctly.
However, while my Windows 200x workstation join the domain, I need to join it
twice. Here is what I do:
1. Go to Computer properties -> Computer Name -> Change
2. Enter the new domain name
3. Enter Administrator and password
then, it will return me that the user name cannot be found.
I've checked

Please help: Any way to query host membership in nested ldap groups?
Hi all,
I have a openldap server setup with netsted netgruops,. Say the netgroups are:
ngA: (host1, -, - ), (host2, -, - )
ngB: ngA, (host3, - - )
ngc: ngB, (host4, -, -)
Is there a way to find host1's membership? so that I can return: ngA, ngB, ngC?
Thanks a lot.

Samba 3 + Win2k = Headache
I have a feeling I may have lost focus on the issue in some of my
previous messages... so here's my dilemma.
I have several Windows (2000 and XP) clients, and several Linux (Red Hat
Enterprise 3, 2.4.21 kernel) clients. I've got a couple servers, one is
currently Windows 2000 Server, and one is Linux (same as above, with the
snapshot Samba running). I want to be able to have users log

.Xauthority & SMB
I asked this question a while ago, but never got any response. Since
then, I've researched the problem some more, so I can give a much more
concise description of what's happening.
I'm mounting the home directories of the users upon login (using
pam_mount) from the Windows server. However, none of the users can run X
Windows. It says there's a problem with the .Xauthority file.

Second SAMBA Server different NETBIOS alias and shares for ClearCase
I have a SAMBA Server utilizing an LDAP backend for user authentication
and it works great unless I use ClearCase. When ClearCase is used the
compilation time for our code is slowed down to a crawl and the
ClearCase application is rendered nearly useless. As a test fix my boss
wants me to create a second SAMBA server to be used for only the
ClearCase server.
I don't know if this will work,

Samba 4.19 and OpenLDAPs
Is all of your authentication vs an actual Active Directory server, separate from the LDAP server? Also, what type of LDAP server (OpenLDAP? FreeIPA? Other?) and is the LDAP server also Debian?
