SO_SNDBUFF & SO_RCVBUFF - Here are some practical recommendations
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Your mileage may vary, however I have found this to be a very reliable method of determining the optimal "socket options" values for SO_SNDBUFF and SO_RCVBUFF. 1. Adjust your smb.conf to reflect: socket options = SO_SNDBUFF=4096 SO_RCVBUFF=4096 TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY 2. Kill your smb/nmb processes, and restart samba. 3. From a workstation,

Samba and Active Directory
I have setup my linux machine (Fedora Core2) to kinit to my windows 2003 server. It has added itself to the active directory with no errors I can use smbclient //server/c$ -k and view all the files on the server. I installed and configured winbind. I can do a wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g and return the list of users and groups from the active directory. I have done a getent passwd and getgroups and

GPG signature of the RC tarballs
Hi. It looks like the gpg signatures of the RC2 and RC3 tarballs are bogus... I've tested the .bz2 and .tar.gz files downloaded from the us1 and us4 mirrors. To confirm that it's not a local problem, I've tested the signature of the Samba_CA.crt file (http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/) and it's ok. Can someone else please confirm it? Thanks. - Ademar $ gpg --verify

Windows XP - samba 1.1.9 slow file transfer problem
I'm experiencing a problem with slow file transfer from a Solaris 2.6 Samba 1.1.9 server to Windows XP clients. This problem does not occur for Windows 2000 clients. In attempting to troubleshoot the problem, I've run Ethereal on both clients and noticed a marked difference in the logs of a transfer of the same file from the server. The Windows 2000 logs shows AndX SMB requests and

Printer Device Modes
Greetings Admins, The howto details setting the device mode using a windows client: http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/printing.html#id2552900 Is there a way to script this process? We support 260+ printers and it's a pain in the ass. (My wrist is hurting!) regards, Ryan

Automatic creation of home directories
Hi all, after searching the archives of this list and extensive general googling, I still haven't worked this problem out so I thought it was time to join the list. I'm trying to make my samba server create home directories on-the-fly when new users login. As I understand it, the way to do this is to use the mkhomedir module and enable "obey pam restrictions" in smb.conf.

Typo in Samba HOWTO collection example 19.2
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, Since the samba-docs mailing list is closed, I figured this was the best place to post this. I believe there's a typo in example 19.2 ("Overriding global CUPS settings for one printer") of the official Samba HOWTO collection. The "print command" parameter in the [special_printer] section contains several echo commands,

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team, The OpenLDAP stuff on this page: http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb. See: http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085 "ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm, ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

Re: Which Samba (CIFS ?) For HPUX 11.00 ?
Hi Nick, This topic should be on samba@lists.samba.org - not technical. I'll give you a brief overview, and any followup send to me directly. HP-CIFS Server for 11.0 is based upon Samba 2.2.12. Support for 11.0 ends there - at 2.2.12. Go to: http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B8725AA If you want to continue on 11.0, HP posts 3.0.14a Opensource
