start tls problem
I'm having trouble getting tls working. It used to work until I changed the smb.conf file to to poing to a different host. I think I have tracked it down to ldap servers ssl cert issuer(CA). I keep getting errors like "self signed certificate in certificate chain" while using openssl commands or a ldapsearch w/ tls and debug mode. So my question is... Where can I put a

Swat not working
I recently decided to set up a Linux machine with the intent to run samba on it. I am running Mandrake 10 and I have installed the latest version of samba from the website. But I can't seem to get samba and swat to work. Because when I go to http://localhost:901 <http://localhost:901/> I receive an error, informing me that it cannot be reached. SAMBA + OPENLDAP - Getent - Please help :)
I have setup a SAMBA + OPENLDAP server following Samba-3 By Example, but I have run into several problems. All the tests described in the Chapter 6 such as pdbedit -Lv, slapcat, and ldapsearch -x -b give the desired results. But, getent can't read passwd or group information from ldap backend. I have done my best to solve the problem, but it just doesn't work. I have compiled the nss_ldap

ZFS Performance Issue
This may not be a ZFS issue, so please bear with me! I have 4 internal drives that I have striped/mirrored with ZFS and have an application server which is reading/writing to hundreds of thousands of files on it, thousands of files @ a time. If 1 client uses the app server, the transaction (reading/writing to ~80 files) takes about 200 ms. If I have about 80 clients attempting it @ once, it can

programmatical retrieval of windows event logs from linux
Am a Linux guy and trying to support security monitoring for Windows devices. Am trying to find a programmatic way of pulling security and application logs from Windows machine. OR it can be a push model where windows can generate events/traps. It should all be built-in in windows with no external tool installation. Looks like there is no NATIVE built in asynchronous event

Samba LDAP Tools and mkntpwd
I'm in the middle of Samba 3.0.9 ==> 3.0.14a migration testing. Because I'm using newer tools, I am also using a newer verions of the Samba LDAP Tools. My older version, 0.8.4, used the 'mkntpwd' utility to generate NT passwords. The new version, 0.9.1 defaults to using (what looks like) a Perl module called Crypt::SmbHash. My questions: Do I need to continue to use mkntpwd?

Missing rpms for samba-ldap script
I was pointed to: http://web.vcs.u52.k12.me.us/linux/smbldap/ As an effective script to get samba/ldap configured for a PDC. It is written for Fedora 3 core or the K12LTSP distro. of course I discovered this after installing the Centos distro. Now it is decision time: stay with Centos and get this working or move the the K12 distro. This setup is for the small business network in my basement

Can one set limits on new core dump?
Hi all, Is there anyway to limit the new core dumping panics? Can't find anything on it. (If I'd only looked in that ...) Was my mistake, but winbindd filled up an entire volume and froze out every process writing to that drive. I started it from a shell and my soft limit is already zero. smbpasswd via cgi
using samba and ldap - redhat 7.3 trying to work on a short cgi to update samba password (it is a url with attributes username and password). I am not very good at all with perl, so if someone can take a quick ponder and help me out, that would be great. I think that it fails in theory however, because to change other users password, you need to be root ... So I was wondering if anyone knows
