Understanding the difference of lock/state/cache directory
Hello, in Samba 3 I had all TDBs on one place configured through "lock directory". Now I saw that Samba 4 split the location of the database files into lock/state/cache directory. *Question 1*: The manpage says "state directory" is for persistent and "cache directory" for non-persistent data. Ok. That's clear. But what is stored in the "lock

Using winbindd socket directory for multiple domains
Hello We have a setup on Ubuntu to join multiple AD domains and authenticate using NTLM_auth with freeRadius. Since there're multiple ADs domains involved, we were using "WINBINDD_SOCKET_DIR" environment variable to use the correct cache directory for each domain. Everything looks fine and all worked when using samba 4.7.9 running on Ubuntu 16.04. Now, we're upgrading to the

hp-ux samba windows client fails to delete directory
Hi Team, I am able to re-produce the same behavior with samba 4.10.0 on Ubuntu 1904 as it was on hp-ux with samba 4.9.0. Scenario:- 1. Configure samba as PDC and start smbd and nmbd daemons. 2. Map samba share on 2 Windows PC#1 and PC#2 with same credentials created by pdbedit -a command 3. Windows PC#1 creates two directories, \FOLDER_A\FOLDER_B in the Samba share 4.

Samba locking database errors : V 2.2.8 a on HP-UX 11i
We are in the process of commissioning a new HP server (on HP-UX 11i) and have installed Samba which we have configured and used extensively before without major problems (though not this version - 2.2.8.a). Samba ran OK initially, but now we are getting failures with messages of 'smbd[pid] Cannot initialize locking database' and 'no locks available' logged to the syslog and no new

Home directory filled with junk
Hello! I'm having a problem, and I haven't got a clue why it has happened. In my homedirectory (as well as everyone elses) empty directories are created with named for example: "arbst-.6Gp7e1" all the dorectories it creates start with "arbst-." and thats also the name all the clients have (arbst-06 for example). Why does it create these directories and how do I make

Possible lock inversion in directory locking
Hi, I've been playing lately with lockdep annotations of OCFS2. I seem to have most of the false positives sorted out and currently I hit the report below. I've analyzed that ocfs2_extend_dir() does first lock local alloc inode in ocfs2_reserve_clusters() and then acquires ip_alloc_sem from the directory. The usual ordering e.g. in ocfs2_write_begin() is to first acquire ip_alloc_sem

testparm output vs documentation
Hello dear Samba developers I am now configuring a PDC for a small LAN, using Samba 3.0.32 from Sernet. While the work advances I am studying Samba. I am not very experienced -- in fact I would better be called a beginner with Samba -- so please forgive me for any obvious errors with my observations. ---------- I compared the output of "testparm -v" with the parameters listed and

Strange folder smb_krb5 in lock directory of version 3.026a
I found a strange folder smb_krb5 in my samba lock directory. Inside, there is something that looks like a Kerberos Configuration, but the content is different from my /etc/krb5.conf (A) Does Samba correctly use my /etc/krb5.conf as before in version 3.023? (B) What is the smb_krb5-folder good for, where does it come from? (C) Can it be deleted safely or does it have to be backed up together with
