Log shows NT4 for an ADS domain
I'm trying to learn about the interactions between SAMBA and win2k DCs. The eventual goal is to have a Win2k server with ADS working with a freeBSD SAMBA server. I've used the setup from http://oslabs.mikro-net.com/fbsd_samba.html as the basis for what I've done so far. Winbind seems to work and I can show users and groups using wbinfo although I see some things in the logs that I

winbindd 3.0.10 stops functioning
I've recently upgraded from a 3.0.4 (or 3.0.6, I don't remember) to Samba 3.0.10 on a FreeBSD 5.2.1 system and now I'm having problems with winbind. It seems to run fine for a while, but then it hangs and starts taking a lot of CPU time (80-90% while idling), eventually it dumps core. I commented out the 'client use spnego' line because that caused winbindd to hang

FW: Samba requesting nonexistent keytab type?
Hi all, I've downloaded and installed the 3.0.2pre1 package. However, I've not managed to get winbindd working. I've run into a credentials cache problem (so I haven't been able to even get to the point I was at before). My krb5.conf and pam settings haven't changed and I'm using the same smb.conf as before. I'm using MIT Kerberos 1.3.1 (in /usr/kerberos/). Here

Winbind in Win2003 ADS: wbinfo -u works, wbinfo -g does not
With samba 3.0.24 (Debian Etch packages) I joined a Windows 2003 ADS domain. Now wbinfo -u works fine, but wbinfo -g only says: Error looking up domain groups. smb.conf: [global] workgroup = wise realm = wise.vub.ac.be server string = %h server dns proxy = no password server = wisepc1 log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m log level = 10 max log size = 1000 syslog = 0

Windbindd restarts and lost uids
We have a problem with our setup that exposed another problem in winbindd. Setup: Samba 3.0.1, openLDAP 1.2.23 for idmap backend using port 1389, security=ads (w2k). All works after we get the daemons started successfully. The first issue has to do with the initial setup of both a Samba server [smbd, nmbd, winbindd, slapd], and a Samba client [just nmbd and winbindd]. We do the

Samba 3/ADC/Winbind problem
Greetings all. I am banging my head about this one, I will try to be as specific as possible, bear with me please. I have a W2KDC ADC, and trying to join a Samba 3 linux workstation to it. What works: net join: succeeded wbinfo -t: checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded wbinfo -m: return to prompt, no output wbinfo -u: correct list of local + AD members

winbindd crashing/stopping
I am running RH8 with the Samba-alpha3.23 from the RPMs. I was able to use Kerberos to add machine to a Windows AD domain without any problem and was able to get winbind to function properly. I was able to get group & user listing using wbinfo -g & -u, -t responds with proper information. I have run getent for passwords & groups. Since what appeared to be a successful getent, my

Winbind fails to connect to \PIPE\NETLOGON with 3.0.10 and 3.0.9
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Joining a mixed 2000 domain worked correctly for Samba 3.0.2a. After upgrading to either samba 3.0.9 or 3.0.10, the net ads join command completes successfully, and wbinfo -u returns a list of users, but any attempt to actually authenticate those users fails with NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE. wbinfo -t also does not work, and produces the log file

idmap_ad: sid to uid conversion fails
I have two boxes on which I am trying to get idmap_ad (from xad_oss_plugins) to provide uid/gid mapping, and am getting the error: "Could not convert sid <sid of some_user> to uid" The story so far goes like this: Without the line "idmap backend = ad:ldap://<PDC's FQDN>/" in smb.conf, I can successfully do all of: #> wbinfo -S $(wbinfo -n some_user | awk

FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba list in hopes someone can help me out at this point. Can anyone help me out here? ~Doug -----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, September 16, 2005 12:48 PM To: 'Dan

wbinfo -u fails in Samba-3.0.4 on Samba PDC/BDC
Dear list, Do any of you use the latest(3.0.4) as a Samba PDC(with OpenLDAP) on Linux ? If yes, have you encountered the following problem ? The setup is a PDC with an LDAP server running locally which is accessed directly and through nsswitch/PAM. A member server is providing shares to clients. When looking up domain users (wbinfo -u) from a member server(Solaris 8, OpenLDAP 2.1.25) there are

winbindd probs w/ Samba 3.0 & ADS
Hello, I'm using samba 3.0.0. Win2k clients on my network can access their fileshares without entering their username/password as long as their username and password exist in smbpasswd on the Samba server. Now I'm trying to have that information grabbed from ADS so that their passwords are kept synchronized but am having problems with winbindd. winbindd is running but I get nothing

3.0.0, winbind issues
I just upgraded our system here to 3.0.0 from RC4 last night. As usual I built an RPM from the source RPM after adding --with-acl-support to the specfile. I found that unlike previous RCs, RPM would not upgrade to 3.0.0 using -Fvh. In the end I removed RC4 and then installed 3.0.0 in the normal way (backing up and restoring /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba). However, the real issue is that

Domain member help
Greetings, I'm new to Samba and I'm wondering where I went wrong.... My setup: Two FreeBSD 5.1 machines Samba 3.0.1r2 from ports collection One tdbsam domain controller and one member server - domcon and memsrv My problem: I've been working on this for a few days and still scratching my head. I can view the base directory of the member server (only as root). But when I try to

Samba, Winbind and AD. Nearly there but not quite
Hi, Just compiled latest version of samba and trying to get Samba to work with AD. I am at the point where I wbinfo -t, wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g and wbinfo -ausername%password work, but I cannot get getent passwd and getent group to gather any AD info. I have noticed the following errors in /var/log/samba/smbd.log [2006/03/09 16:37:16, 1] nsswitch/winbindd_ads.c:enum_dom_groups(282) No rid for

winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users". On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group. Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo -g and getent group. When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo -g, I got the results

Winbind dying daily
(samba 3.0.2a via RPM, ADS, SuSE 9) Every day Windbind stops responding, although the process is active. When this happens, getent passwd returns just local users, and wbinfo -u returns "Error looking up domain users" If i 'reload' winbind, nothing changes, but if I 'restart' it, it works again, for another day. Any ideas? log.winbind, after a wbinfo -u, follows:

wbinfo works for test authentication but cannot list users
Hi all, I have a Samba configuration that was in place on Ubuntu Warty (samba 3.0.7) workstations to allow winbind to authenticate domain users on them. These computers have since been re-installed with Ubuntu Hoary (samba 3.0.10) with the same configuration. The workstations have been successfully joined to the domain using `net rpc join`. `wbinfo -t` shows that the trust between the

winbind - users missing from groups
Hello All! I'm pulling my hair out as I cannot figure out why I'm missing users from many groups after integrating and re-integrating over and over. Example, AD group: Domain Users, has 400 users in it , but after integrating and performing command: [EMAIL PROTECTED] samba]# getent group | grep "Domain User" COF+Domain Users:x:16777223:COF+gisguest Check it out one user!

Winbind no longer mapping groups correctly
Hi there, I have just discovered that my winbind installation (3.0 alpha 24 w/ACLs, RH 8.0, connected to a Windows 2000 ADS domain) seems to be no longer mapping groups correctly. Executing the "groups" command for any particular domain user fails, complaining that it can't get the group name for various winbind-ranged gids. Doing an ls of a directory created from Windows via samba
