smbpasswd fails to add machine account with ldapsam
Hi! I am seeing other users with the same problem as I have. My samba also fails to add machine accounts. It seems to me if it didn't even try. If I use some other script (pdbedit, smbldap-tools) than smbpasswd it manages to add the account but still fails to authenticate within the same session. If I try again the machine account exists and authentication goes ok. server:~# smbpasswd -a -m

pdbedit: importing smbpasswd to tdbsam
Hi there, I'm trying to import a smbpasswd-file into a Samba 3.0 installation on Debian Sarge using tdbsam as sole passdb backend. Copying pdbedit's documentation I used pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/root/smbpasswd.old The error message returned was tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [foo] without a primary group RID where foo is the username to be imported. This message was

Hi All, I have setup my samba as a PDC and testparm gives me the right result, but when I am trying to add my XP client to SAMBA I receive an error as "Logon failure: bad username or password" or "Username could not be found". I am using root as the domain administrator and have added root account using smbpasswd and can see it using pdbedit -Lv. I can logon successfully

Samba PDC Server Local SID, Domain SID, and GROUP RID Question
Hi, I have a question regarding an issue I am having with our new Samba PDC. We used to be running an NT domain controller and about two months ago, I made the transition to a Debian linux box running Samba. The PDC is currently running Samba 3.0.8. My samba PDC is using the tdbsam backend and, for the most part is working flawlessly. However, when using smbpasswd to add samba accounts, I

More to pdbedit -L segfault
I have recompiled pdbedit 3.0.2 with -g flag to be able to list sources from gdb when debugging pdbedit and discovered some more info but don't know how to interpret it: (gdb) frame 1 #1 0x0806c899 in init_sam_from_buffer (sampass=0x81b8c28, buf=0x81b8d78 "", buflen=208) at passdb/passdb.c:1462 1462 SAFE_FREE(domain); (gdb) print domain $8 = 0x10000 <Address

machine accounts
Well I thank everybody that helped me get swat working. I am very thankful. Now, though, it seems I have more problems. When I try to join my samba domain, my XP box says "a domain controller for the domain edith could not be contacted." Okay, well, after reading up on things in this list, it seems that I need to create a machine account. I didn't have to on my NT box. When I

samba PDC problems
I'm trying to set up a samba PDC. I've been following the directions in "The Official Samab-3" book. I still don't understand how to add users! I'm using tdbsam and I set up all the add user scripts and what not in the smb.conf. pdbedit won't let me do anything unless I add the user with adduser(what's the point of the scripts?) and even when I add the user by

Cannot add machine account
Hi, I'm running Samba as a PDC on a Debian Etch machine (3.0.24-6etch9). It's been some time (months, maybe 1 year) since I last added a new machine to the domain, but I'd need to do it today and I'm getting an error: #>pdbedit -a -m Woodstock-VMXP tdb_update_sam: struct samu (woodstock-vmxp$) with no RID! Unable to add machine! (does it already exist?) The machine does NOT

problem destroying /dev/null
Working with Samba 3.0 on rh9. Set up samba to use tdbsam (small network, maybe 30-40 users tops) and be a PDC for the internal network. Will be joining machines to this domain. My smb.conf file has been configured to use tdbsam as the backend, and with an add machine script, add user script, etc. However, using the command: pdbedit -a jdoe results in "could not create account to

pblms with samba 2.X /3.x and NT--W2k
There is OBVIOUSLY something wrong somewhere. EITHER a WHOLE bunch of us are stupider than we thought, the documentation left off a step, or there is something SO blatently obvious that we are ALL staring it in the face and missing it inches in front of our faces. This is exactly what I've had, (BUT I *D*I*D* have it running ok ...) and I STILL havent figured it out yet,... Subject:

Hello list, while fiddling around with the configuration so Dovecot's LDA "deliver" can be used by multiple users by means of Getmail (you can read about that in [1]) I always end up running into the error message posted in the subject line: Jan 15 00:00:02 HOSTNAME deliver(USERID): Can't connect to auth server at /usr/local/var/run/dovecot/auth-master: Permission denied
