Samba PDC - Adding machine to domain
Hi:
I am using Samba 2.2.8 with LDAP integration in PDC mode. I succeeded in
adding a machine to my domain, but when I try to log in to the domain I get
the following error:
"The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's computer
account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is
incorrect".
I've addded the machine by hand (not with

"credentials check wrong" only with Windows NT4 Clients
Hi,
we tried to migrate an NT4 Domain to Samba3.0.4. We took the easy aproach and
started to dump the NT PW Database with "pwdump" and the groups with
"addusers" which were used to build the initial LDAP DB for the Samba Server.
The SID was set and the Samba PDC was started as a replacement for the NT
one.
Loggin on to the Domain with Windows 200x and XP machines works

Internet explorer not authenticating properly
Hi all,
We are having a an ongoing problem with out NTLM authentication on out
squid system.
The problem tends to arise when users change their passwords.
I have read a KB article that says that DC's will still continue to
authenticate
Old password for an hour or so after the password is changed.
But I think it is between IE and winbindd that is the problem.

3.0.7 net join to NT4 domain - silently fails?
I've got no responce to my mail with subject
'samba 3.0.7 cannot join NT4 domain', so I dug deeper.
I also read carefully these docs:
swat/help/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html
swat/help/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/winbind.html
This is what I observe:

HUNTER has empty var/{lock,private}

Samba 3beta3 and NETAPP filer - cannot join domain [long]
Hi,
when trying to get a Netapp filer (multi protocol) to join a domain
controlled by samba 3.0.0beta3 with ldapsam backend, I ran into a "small"
problem - the filer won't join the domain.
So we set up another server with samba 3.0.0beta3 using tdbsam(?) as the
passwd backend - and lo, the filer is able to join the domain.
Both "joins" are NT4 joins - as the filer

winbind error - Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence(æ~S^\^H)
Hi there
I hope that you understand by English. I'm a Rooky and don't know Samba very well. I installed the newest version 3.0.10 on my SuSE Linux 7.3 machine and it works very well. I make User- and Passwort-Requests with Samba (winbind) for the Squid-Proxy. Now always work's well but I get the following error message from log.winbind:

how to turn off NTLM?
Andrew, as you konw, I'm trying to get samba-3.0-alpha20 to authenticate
a user that logs in to an AD domain workstation with the user's AD
kerberos credentials. looking at the logs, it's not clear to me whether
samba is trying to do kerberos or NTLM authentication for the client.
in smb.conf I have:

3.0.7 joining NT4 domain: no go
Hi,
I am still wrestling with WinNT4 domain PDC which does not like
a Samba member. I updated PDC to SP6a. I also verified that
this admin username/password indeed can be successfully
used to join an NT workstation to the domain.
I narrowed samba failure down to net join silent failure.
It says "Joined domain PORT" but logs reveal that actually
joining failed.
I did several runs of

3.0.6-1 and XP SP2
I have a problem logging into 3.0.6 with an XP SP2 machine.
I'm not sure where this problem has arisen from as I have been testing XP
SP2 on a few machines and during this process I've done a clean install of
3.0.6.
I started testing a laptop and found that while logged in locally I could
access domain files as expected.
When I tried to log into the domain I was presented with

I recently upgraded my PDC's and BDC's to 3.0.14a but my member servers
are still running 3.0.10. Today users complained that the couldn't

Problem with winbind on Samba PDC after 3.0.20
Hi,
I'm using winbind to authenticate squid proxy users via ntlm_auth.
Squid, samba and winbind run on the same server.
The server is PDC and a member of the domain.
After update samba from 3.0.14a up to 3.0.20 ntlm_auth does not work.
Also wbinfo got error:
# wbinfo -t
checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed
error code was NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED (0xc0000022)

[help] Can't Join Samba 2.2.3a to TNG+LDAP
I need to join my Samba 2.2.3a to a TNG Domain (which stores users and
machines account into OpenLDAP) using it as a password server.
Provided that TNG is working fine in authenticating users on W2K machines,
once they are logged in they should (in my intentions) see Samba 2.2.3a
shares. In order to do this I provided the following configuration for
Samba:
workstation = <tng_domain>

Regarding net groupmap
Well, my Samba 3.0.4 is joined to a w2k AD and works fairly well so far,
as it's not in a production environment yet. I am now testing it for
such a release and have encountered a permission problem. Unless I
chmod -R 777 the Samba share directroy, users can only read files on the
share, including the ADS users in Domain Admins. Reading the Samba
online manual, I figured the groupmap
