BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi, After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary: system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master, wins server, domain master browser, no iptables; system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

Browse lists from other workgroups across subnets
I have problems to get browse lists from other workgroups across subnets. On win95 network neighbourhood I have a complete list form all computers in the same workgroup (including computers located on an other subnet) and a workgroup list. But if I try to look at the computers on an other workgroup I get an error message: workgroup not available. The subnet has an samba server (2.0.3) configured

can't resolve NETBios names
My LAN has a single linux/samba server as a PDC/file server, and several windows workstations. The workstations get their IP addresses from a Linksys cable router DHCP server. I can't get the linux machine to resolve the NETBios names of the windows machines. >From the Linux machine I can see the Internet through the DSL router, I can ping the windows machines by IP address, but

nmblookup
Newbie question. If I type nmblookup __some other machine__ I get the correct response from Samba. If I type nmblookup __mymachine__ then I get an error yhat it is not found. So if nmbd is not setup right, how do I fix it? --Dan Dan Huston Phone (602) 965-2420 Measurement, Statistics and Methodological Studies Fax (602) 965-0300 Psychology in Education

Win clients on other subnets
Hello! I have Samba 2.0.0 installed on an UltraSPARC server (Solaris 2.6, NIS). I only use Samba for file and printer sharing (I have about 15 Win-clients). My smb.conf is minimal. Everything works fine. Now I want 5 more Win98-clients to use the Samba shares. However, these are on a different subnet. When I try 'net view \\myserver' on one of these boxes I get: Error 51: The

wins: no nmblookup on 192.168.1.255 but 192.168.1.2
Hi, here is a client computer and a server computer (Debian Wheezy, armel, samba Version 3.6.6, IP address: 192.168.1.2, Name: xyz). Problem: wins doesn't answer nmblookups by the client on the broadcast address: client$ nmblookup -S xyz querying xyz on 192.168.1.255 name_query failed to find name xyz Why is that so? How to fix this? When I specify the the server IP I do get an answer:

Multi-IP question
Hi all- I'm fairly new to samba, but have been using 2.2.8 on a local subnet, 192.168.0.x, without problem. The PC with samba is running NetBSD, and has 4 ethernet i/fs, all on different subnets, on different hubs, and has Windows 2k clients. I now need to switch samba to two of the other i/fs instead (the 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x subnets), and when I do, I can see the NetBSD box from

Browsing a workgroup in another subnet
I'm trying to determine if the global configuration options for remote announce and remote browse sync work for browsing a different workgroup in a different subnet. In the books I have, it just talks about using these options to span the same workgroup across two subnets. In our situation, for example, I have two different workgroups (WG1 - 10.50.50.1 and WG2 - 10.100.50.1). Each of these

Cross-subnet browsing
I have two domains which are on different subnets, connected by a routed OpenVPN tunnel. The domains trust each other. Domain A has the WINS server. Domain B is confused to use Domain A's WINS server. The VPN pushes the WINS server as part of its DHCP options as well. >From either domain, I am able to use smbclient to see the shares on the other domain's PDC. I have to specify -W

samba over multiple subnets
I'm sure this issue have been discussed in this list far too many times already... But I've been unable to find it, so... My network is splitted in two subnets; one with public IP and one with private IP. The ones with a private IP are masqueraded on a Linux server, also running Samba and acting as a DNS. The two subnets are connected to the same hub, which in turn are connected to _one_

NMBLOOKUP returns double entries ???
hi, when i do nevanfs01:/ # nmblookup NEVAN#1B i get querying NEVAN on 192.168.255.255 192.168.41.3 NEVAN<1b> 192.168.41.3 NEVAN<1b> i just wonder, why there's two times the same entry? i also get error messages from nmbd like these, which i think are related to the problem i mentioned at first: 2004-07-21 13:34:21 nmbd[3150]: [2004/07/21 13:34:09, 0]

Tracking WINS Problems
I'm having some problems with (I think) WINS here and am hoping for some pointers to tools that will help me track down what's going on. Really, I'd like to be able to get a big dump of all of the names registered on a WINS server. (The WINS server in question is a NT box to which I don't have direct access. Ideally, I'd like to be able to see a nmblookup-style dump showing

nmblookup of client using bcast address fails
Hi, I've been trying unsuccessfully over the past couple of days to get my windows machines to recognize my linux box. I've been working through the troubleshooting guides I can't get the query of the client machine to work using the broadcast address: I have the following 3 machine network: lifebook SUSE 192.168.1.100 renegade WXP 192.168.1.101 maverick W2K

How can I add a NT PDC to WINS tables?
Hi I am trying to use wins-support in samba-2.0.6 as a WINS-server for severel subnets. On one subnet there is an NT-PDC server, serving its own domain. I cannot understand why, but it does not register itself as a PDC (type #1c). The domain is called SI, and the PDC is SI_NTSURF. This is all I get in wins.dat on this server: "IS~SI_NTSURF#00" 943540525 192.38.49.60 64R

WINS resolving problem
Hello, I have the following problem with NetBIOS name resolving using nmbd. Here's my configuration: Subnet A (domain A) contains Win95/98/NT and Samba nodes. They can see each other only via broadcast. None of these has WINS enabled. On subnet B (domain B) all nodes have WINS enabled and there is a local master browser for domain B on the net. The WINS server is a Linux 2.2 based router

Here's my setup and what's happening (apologies if it is convoluted): Subnet A One Samba PDC with encrypted passwords. One samba file server Subnet B One Samba file server (serverB) that is the *local
