net getlocalsid problem
Hi I decided after some testing and experimenting, to move the
production servers from 2.2.x to 3.0. so I've installed samba3.0 in
paralel with the old binaries. To start the migration I wanted to save
the old domain SID, to can make the migration as transparent as
possible, so I did:
  net3 -d 10 -I 127.0.0.1 getlocalsid
while the old binaries are still runing all that I've got

ADS Join problem samba3.0.14a kerberos 1.3.5
Hi List,
I'm getting an error join an ADS Domain, using samba 3.0.14a & kerberos
1.3.5.
When I look at the debug output from the join attempt, it almost seems
as though
The join is looking for an OU or something from the AD that doesn't
exist. I'm not an
Windows person and the AD admins are not around to help peep this out.
Can anyone take a look at the debug output below and

Shutting down WinXP Pro instance
Recently I set up a PDC (Fedora 12 - I'm using this for a specific reason) using Samba 3.4.9 and OpenLDAP 2.4.19; I named my domain ATHOME. I am trying to figure out how to shut down WinXP Pro remotely and I'm not having any luck. Up to this point I have tried the following:

 - I used ATHOME\root which is the admin acct I used to join XP to my domain. I added ATHOME\root to my

re. Initial Samba Setup
On a recommendation from this list I checked the junklog file, the
output from which I attached below. It looks as if it does not even see
the linux machine as it indicates not seeing "explorer" which is the
local netbios name. The Win XP machine does not even show in the log.
Here is the last entry for nmbd.log:

Bad file modification date/time stamps created from windows clients
I'm running samba server version 3.0.28a on an HP-UX pa-risc machine
with XP-pro windows clients.
When a windows client creates a new file on the samba share the
modification time is not set correctly.
On the HP-UX side date/time stamp shows as:
   % ls -l README
   -rwxr--r-- 1 e6b564 users 1081 Dec 13 1901 README
  The date/time stamp is always "Dec 13 1901" ?

net ads join fails
I am trying to connect to an ADS domain and it is failing all the time.

I am running SuSE Linux 9.0 with Samba 3.0.13 and have configured Samba with ldap and heimdal kerberos

Attached is my debug level 10 error log created when the join is attempted.

I would appreciate any advice on solving this problem.

Thanks in advance

Can't join AD anymore after migration to 3.0.30
After migrating from 3.0.26a to 3.0.30 I cannot join my AD member server
to the domain anymore:
I get a DCERPC_FAULT_INVALID_TAG.
As I didn't change my Windows 2000 SBS Server, this looks like a new
feature in Samba 3.0.30.
Do I have to also migrate my Heimdal - if so, which version is required?
Kind regards,
Jens
P.S: Is there a way to find out the code changes in Samba 3.0.30?

BDC and password change program
Hello,
Just wondering what I should be using for the password change program on a BDC.
Should it be:
        passwd program = /usr/bin/smbpasswd -r <PDC address> %u
I'm having a problem with passwords not staying in sync between the PDC and BDC
with pass backend ldap.
The systems are all Fedora Core 4, Samba 3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.23

Weird permissions issues with samba shares and XFS
Hi,
We are trying to deploy samba sharing on Centos 7.4, linked to windows 2016
AD for authentication.
We are having an issue related to permissions where different directories
with seemingly the exact same permissions cannot all be accessed from
smbclient. I was hoping somebody could help me figuring this out.
We have the following structure:
1. one LVM2 volume on /dev/storage/test (XFS)

I'm running samba 4.1.6 as a PDC on ubuntu 14.04.
I'm following these guides to setup print shares

https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares_with_Windows_ACLs
When I go to my windows workstation to change the ACL's on the print$ share
I can get into the security tab and I can change the security options
