Unable to start Winbind
Hello, I am fairly new to Linux. I am trying to set up a Linux file server
and join it to a Windows 2000 domain. All that I need to do is to be able
to get files from the Linux file server and put files on it. I do not want
it to be the domain controller. Ironically, I had it working last week, but
could only access one drive on the server, started playing around trying to
access other

wbinfo -g works, -u fails
Attempting to get Winbind to authenticate against a
Windows 2000 Domain, I am having one odd issue.
Running:
wbinfo -t returns a successful secret
wbinfo -g returns the builtin groups
wbinfo -u returns "Error looking up domain users"
None of the documentation I've found points to
anything where only -g or -u fails--its always both.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Domain security, users still asked for login
Hello
I have been having problems with authentication on a suse 9 box with
samba 3.0.3 installed from rpms.
I have googled till my fingers bled, there is just the question, no
answer, someone must have been able to solve it out of all the people
who had the problem?
I joined the domain with net join, this was successful
I can list users/groups, authenticate and check the secret with wbinfo

random errors "the local drive name is already in use. This connection has not been restored."
Hello,
I have random errors that I can not analyze nor fix:
when several users connect to the same Samba share, they get sometimes
error messages
"the local drive name is already in use. This connection has not been
restored", although the connection
is still usable afterwards. This sometimes breaks a file operation.
Clients are running Windows 2000, and the server is a Solaris 8

Moving Profiles
Hi everyone,
I'm about to install a Samba PDC in a network that previously was
working as a workgroup. All the users have been logging into their
local machines as "administrator" and all with the same password.
What I would really like to do is to move their profiles with them, but
as they are all using the same username and the like I can see this is
going to cause problems.
So

Add printer wizard (XP)
Hello list
I have been really wowed by samba 3 so far, i just have one last mission
to complete... please help!
I have samba 3.0.2a-SuSE installed on a SuSE 9.0 box. It uses winbind to
authenticate against a win server 2003 box - this seems to work fine,
users can own files and this is shown when getfacl is run on the shares
(owned by DOMAIN\User).
The last problem i have is adding printers...

Problem with wbinfo
Hello,
I'm using a Samba client to access a Samba Server. The "smbclient
tool" is ok, both at the client as at the server. I'm having trouble
with the "wbinfo" command (winbind service) at the client, as you can
see below.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks!!!

Read.table for macs
Dear All,
I've been using R for windows for a while, without too many problems.
However, I'm forced to use the MAC OS system for teaching, because our
teaching labs are mac only (not my idea!!). I have a very basic problem,
but one that doesn't appear on the FAQs. I simply want to import data
from a spreadsheet. I'm using exactly what works fine on Windows, namely:

error while decrypting metadata
One of my hosts just rebooted for the first time in ages, and now it
won't connect to any other nodes.
The log just contains continual "error while decrypting metadata" errors.

send all outbound traffic through intermediary
Is it possible to a configure a tinc (1.0.35) node to only send outbound
through specific nodes, rather than trying to establish direct connections?
I have a node which can connect to all the others directly, but some
routes have terrible packet loss, so I'd like to configure it not to try.

avoiding duplicate IPs in tinc scripts
Currently I have the local tinc node's VPN IP in both the tinc-up script
as well as in its hosts/$NODE file Subnet setting. Can this be avoided,
to simplify deployment?
Actually I am currently using a DNS lookup in the tinc-up script to get
the local VPN IP ($NODE.myvpndomain), but this fails if DNS isn't ready
when tinc-up is run. (DeviceStandby=yes fixes this, but then the

Can rsync handle any type of file?
Hiya
I have been doing some substantial research about rsync and the rsync
algorithm.
I was wondering: can rsync backup any type of file? I have tested it with
"common" files Word, Excel, SQL dumps, log files etc
But what about more complex types of files, like vector images etc.
Thank you for your thoughts in advance.

Samba + ACL backup solution
Hello all
I am looking for a good backup solution for samba shares, I do not mean
to start a jihad between rival backup religions, but I would appreciate
any suggestions.
I have tried star and love it, unfortunately there does not seem to be a
gui or any frontend that can be used with it (it needs to be available
to a couple of GUI-only (read as windows admin) people).
Thanks again,

cwRsync : send all output to a file
Hello
I have been using cwRsync on some Windows boxes, backing up to a Linux server.
I have found some issues which files being open and not being copied etc, so I
decided that I would log the output from the rsync command on the Windows
clients so that I can look at them.
On the Windows boxes, I put the rsync command in a batch file and run that
automatically each evening.
However, if I simply
