samba 3.0.2 - windows 98 - smbd 100% cpu usage
hi,
i've a problem with a windos 98 client. there is one linux samba server an
one single windows 98 client. as soon as the clinet logs on to samba a dmbd
is forked which causes 100% cpu load.
as the level 10 logs are quite large and the ml does not allow mails of
that size i've put them on a webserver:

weine & baan erp windows client
hi,
i've setup wine with winetools and installed the baan cleint for windows. at
a first sight every thing seems to work. a closer look showed a font
problem. when you look at the atatched jpg's you can see, that the numbers
do not fit the entry field. compare linux.jpg and windows.jpg. i'm not
shure if this is a font problem or some thing else. sadly this is a

PDC & ACL's
hi,
i want to use samba 3.0.5 as PDC for w98, w2k, XP with windows acl's. so,
i've a few questions:
- is there a comprehensive doc describing this (i know the std. samba docs)
- do i need a filesystem supporting acl's (xfs) to get this ?
if the server is used by win clients only. (no nfs)
- if i need a special fs, which one is to be prefered ?
TIA

acl_tdb failed to convert file acl to posix permisions
We are using SAMBA 3.6.6 on Centos 5 with the acl_tdb VFS module. Our share is backed by storage on a SAN devices that does not support ACLs or extended attributes ... so we're trying the acl_tdb module as a mechanism to support Windows ACLs. We have verified that samba has ACL support enabled, and ACL support works find if we export the share from the local EXT4 filesystem.

Re: set_canon_ace_list: sys_acl_set_file type file failed for file
Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas about trouble shooting the following error
when trying to change folder permissions on a Samba Share
"[2008/01/18 15:59:42, 2] smbd/posix_acls.c:set_canon_ace_list(2480)
set_canon_ace_list: sys_acl_set_file type file failed for file"
We are using Version 3.0.24 on Solaris. The share is on a NetApps
filer which is nfs licensed.
Thanks,
Paul.

ip authentication
I have Samba installed on a Debian Sarge distro in my home network.
It's not connected to the internet and I'm the only user, so I'm not
too concerned about security. My question is can I have Samba
authenticate by ip address instead of username and password. Again
security is not an issue but I kinda get annoyed having to login
every time I need files from it.

MSWORD problem after upgrade to samba 3.0.14a
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing a problem with Samba
3.0.14a.
The problems is after the users connects to a samba share and opens msword,
creates a document then does "file|save"
Then opens the file and makes changes then does "file|save" again, it comes
up and says that the backup copy of the file could not be created and never
actually saves

(no subject)
I have an issue with W2K/XP using Folder Redirection to a Samba homes share
(or any share for that matter). This is only a problem when access?for a
user is via an ACE (ACL) and not the traditional file system permissions.
So for example (user is test in this example):
# ls -ld History/
drwxrwx---+?? 3 root???? root???????? 4096 Apr 12 21:15 History/
# getfacl History
# file: History
# owner: root

Standalone with Windows ACL
I'm configuring a standalone server(server role = standalone server) using
POSIX ACLs to manage permissions on server.
I need to manage permissions(At least basic ones, like read, write) from
Windows GUI.
Is that possible using standalone?
When I try setting permissions on Windows I got this on the log:
[2017/10/04 19:07:08.437837, 2]
../source3/smbd/posix_acls.c:3006(set_canon_ace_list)

Problem with Redhat 8 and access control of files
I have a RH8 and samba version 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix. The problem is
I can't change the permissins of files from Windows clients (NT and
2000). If I am logged as some user, create a file on some share and then
try to change its permissions (for example trying to add read access to
Everyone) it responds with Access denied. I have almost the same setup
on another test machine with

Possible solution to "Access Denied"
I have been using Windows synchronize with Samba to allow me to work
offline from my Linux box. Just recently, (I do not believe anything has
changed but you can never tell what IS may have done), it stopped
working with an error similar to the following (reported in
http://www.mail-archive.com/samba@lists.samba.org/msg45272.html).

Ah, so you don't want to use POSIX ACLs, you want
