Can't login from Windows PC to Samba using ADS?
I hope this is the right place to post this.
I am running SuSe 8.2 Linux on an IBM 1 gig processor at work. I
installed samba 3.0.5 on it and followed the instructions in the online
book "Samba-3 by Example" for chapter 9 "Active Directory Domain with
Samba Domain Member Server

Samba 3.0.2 on HPUX 11i with winbind; Get_Pwnam_internals didn't find user + NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
Hey,
I've troubles with a samba-installation ( version 3.0.2, HP-CIFS-Technologie
Preview ) on HPUX 11i. I want to setup a fileserver within a
customerenvironment connecting into a windows 2000 domain, which contains a
lot of trusted domains. I have joined the domain already and wbinfo brings
me the list of users and groups. Also within the winbind_imap.tdb I see some

SID-UID mapping issue on Samba 3.0.4 in an AD Domain
I have problems with SID to UID mapping using winbind on a FreeBSD 5.2/Samba
3.0.4
as a member server of a Win2k domain controller. I use heimdal-0.6.1 for
kerberos.
I would like my XP machines in the domain to use the share with the user
accounts
defined in Active Directory.
At a first glance it seems to work: the connection to the share succeeds
without a
prompt for a password. Users may

Windbindd restarts and lost uids
We have a problem with our setup that exposed another problem in winbindd.
Setup: Samba 3.0.1, openLDAP 1.2.23 for idmap backend using port 1389,
security=ads (w2k). All works after we get the daemons started
       successfully.
The first issue has to do with the initial setup of both a Samba
server [smbd, nmbd, winbindd, slapd], and a Samba client [just nmbd and
winbindd]. We do the

idmap_sid_to_uid is not get called?
Hi

I have the following question:

Joining Win200x as ADS/DOMAIN, I see no problems for windows users to
get authenticated even if they don't have local accounts.

However, with the same samba (3.06) joining NT4 SP6 domain I see that
only users that also have entry in /etc/passwd are been authenticated.

I followed winbindd traces and saw that there is no problem

Trouble authenticating clients from ADS domain on Samba 3.0.5 file server
I'm so close I can feel it :-)
I'm having a problem connecting users to their home directories. Under "My
Network Places" on XP clients I can see my Samba file server ("Hobbes")
just fine. When I double click on it to open it, I get a login/password
prompt that I can't bypass even though I try logins/passwords that exist
on the ADS server and/or the UNIX accounts.

Winbind problem

problem
I almost have this.
I have read the docs, I have read this, I have purchased both books from the
samba team, and I cannot find any help from any of these.
We are trying to migrate from OLDDOMAIN (an NT4 Domain) to NEWDOMAIN (our
Win2k3 Domain). I have a two way trust right now between the domains. I have

2.2.8pre1 smbclient log in problem
Hi all samba coders. Glad to see that you work to improve samba.
Here is a problem I would be very greatful if you could solve.
Certain international characters does not work as usernames when trying to log
in to an NT4 file server. My problem is that in Swedish versions of NT the
"Administrator" username is translated and reads "Administrat?r". It seams
that the

Domain member help
Greetings,
I'm new to Samba and I'm wondering where I went wrong....
My setup:
Two FreeBSD 5.1 machines
Samba 3.0.1r2 from ports collection
One tdbsam domain controller and one member server - domcon and memsrv
My problem:
I've been working on this for a few days and still scratching my head.
I can view the base directory of the member server (only as root). But

Cluster: node to node switching
Hi *,
I use samba 3.2.3 actually and have problems to switch between two nodes
in a cluster in an active directory environment. I know of CTDB but I
want to keep it simple and so I use a shared folder for the .tdb files.
But it does not work since samba 3.2 anymore. After switching from one
node to another I have to delete the .tdb files and join again to the
domain to have access to samba.

Samba3.0.1pre1 winbind failing against domain groups(ADS)
Winbindd is having trouble finding the Domain Admins group in my domain.
It appears to be searching for the group but does not show what domain
it's looking into - then it tries the local PC (ANC-Gentoo):

winbind with ADS error
RedHat AS 2.1 kernel 2.4.9-e.16 with kbr5-1.2.7

I've been playing with ADS features of samba-3.0alpha21 and am having
problems getting winbind to work.

I can join the domain:

[root@asecl etc]# net ads join
Joined 'ASECL' to realm 'ASE-LRC-AD.AE.UTEXAS.EDU'

After joining the domain, I can use the other 'net ads' options of user,
group, status and info.

Lets put it this way, to connect to the domain member your users must
be known to the underlying OS.

I have the same problem, with the Debian 3.0r2, using samba 3.0.1 compiled from sources, with the options:

wbinfo_group.pl / wbinfo -r not working!
Hello,
I have been using samba to authenticate my squid users to Active
Directory. Because of the amount of users, I would like to set up my
ACL's based on groups, rather than individual user accounts.
I have successfully joined my samba box to our windows domain (2k).
For some reason I had to enter the domain controller name instead of
the domain name when doing so. I am now having issues
