valid users %g and %u not behaving properly...
Hello. I have samba working with ADS and winbind (upgrading from nt4/samba-2.0.7 to w2k3/samba-3.0.4). Everything seems cool, but for one thing. My old homes share used to look like this: [homes] path=%H/sam valid users = +%G,%U force user = %U force group = %G write list = +%U create mask = 0770 directory mask = 0770 browseable=no read only = no It worked beautifully. But the whold valid

Fail to find correct group
Hi team, deploying samba 3.0.4 as PDC on HP-UX 11.00, I've got a singular behaviour on one specific server. Our configuration is working fine on other servers. We want to manage policies based on group membership. We've the following extract of configuration for this purpose : [netlogon] path = /etc/samba/netlogon/%g writable = Yes browsable = No locking

windows doesn't show groups in security tab of file properties
Hello, I've a Samba 3.0.23c-SerNet-Debian PDC (no BDC or anything) connected to OpenLDAP. I thought it would work smoothly, I didn't discover any problems until today. I'am trying to create a ntconfig.pol with poledit, but it doesn't show me any groups to add to the policy. I can see all the users by the way. To eleminate a poledit problem I used the security tab (in german

root prexec/postexec & login scripts
I have a perl script that I'd like to use to create windows 9x login scripts at login time but I cannot get the process to work right. I have RedHat 7.3 (actually the k12ltsp v2.1.0 which is a modified RH7.3) set up as a domain controller which is working well. Manually created login scripts run fine on the workstations at login. I'm using a netlogon script I found at

Change in behaviour for the "%U" substitution in 4.10.8?
I opted for 'remove the SERVER lines' (since I don't remember why they are in there) - but this hasn't changed the behaviour. The log file contains a different error message, but still refers to the incorrect path --- [2019/09/06 09:43:14.955067,? 0] ../../source3/smbd/service.c:784(make_connection_snum) ? make_connection_snum: canonicalize_connect_path failed for service

Samba 3.0.4 Profile Permissions
When attempting to login to my Samba 3.0.4 PDC from a Windows XP client as a user with administrative priveleges (in this case, the user is a member of the adm group in Linux and all members of that group are members of the Adminstrators group in Windows) I get the following error: Windows did not load your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile. Erronous username character substitution ( %u )
Good day, I'm having a few problems with Samba 3.0.2a, specifically involving the username character substitute, %u. For some reason, Samba resolves the %u character wrongly when used in the "path" parameter, where it resolves it as the guest account. However, the server in question has "map to guest" set to never and both "guest ok" and "guest only"

Hi List, Have here an interesting problem which i do not understand. OS = RHEL 4 Clone Samba = 3.01014 Although there are the groups, Samba announces the following error message. Couldn't find group @XXXX That happens with all later generated groups. Are there here possibly problems with GID? Does someone have an idea? Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Sambashare
Nathan, Thanks for the tips. Most of these settings were already in place, but the ones that were not already there I set up, with the exception of the 'force group' setting. I hesitate to try this simply because many of the subfolders under the shared volume are have their access controlled by group, and I didn't want to risk preventing others from accessing their files in the middle

Change in behaviour for the "%U" substitution in 4.10.8?
Hi knowledgable Samba folks, I have a Samba server (Ubuntu 18.04, with the packages from apt.van-belle.nl so that I can run recent versions of Samba with Time Machine). This box is configured to use Active Directory authentication as a domain member. Happy to share relevant parts of configuration if necessary, feel free to just ask. I have two shares that are configured to use %U username

Change in behaviour for the "%U" substitution in 4.10.8?
No problem - I've pastebin'ed it rather than include it, I don't know what this list's preferences are for config files.?https://pastebin.com/70vTmWyL <https://pastebin.com/70vTmWyL> Note that there's a lot of lines in there - the config has been ported between several boxes and upgrades over at least the 6 years I've been with this company. Issues after upgrade to 3.0.6 from 3.0.4; fixed in 3.0.7?
Hello, I run samba 3.0.4 on a RHL9 server. Samba is a domain member of a W2k3 ADS and I use CUPS as printing mechanism; therefore Samba is compiled with Kerberos 1.3.1-7 and cups-devel. 3.0.4 runs pretty good, printing via CUPS runs well too, only the following messages I see constantly (this flooding my logs) while using 3.0.4: winbindd.log ========= [2004/07/27 16:07:04, 1]

Does "Admin Users =" accept groups?
man smb.conf does not specifically say admin users supports @groupname syntax. Google turns up lots of examples of it being used, but everyone hanging their smb.conf's up to air does not mean they are 100% accurate either. Here, Samba 3.0.4 in PDC mode, I can not get it to accept the name of a group in /etc/group, user ID's only. -- Michael Lueck Lueck Data Systems Remove the upper
