Files with / in their name....
Hi there - I am trying to do a site to site nightly rsync between two boxes
using ssh - all of the setup steps work and everything can talk nicely etc.
However, the users unfortunately have lots of files with / in the filename
(eg 21/08/08.ppt etc.) - when I try and run rsync on the content of these
folders rsync understandably moans about the filenames being invalid (ie it
thinks they are folder

Logon logging logs
I'm looking for a simple solution to log a single entry for each login
to a Samba PDC.
My current attempt(s) of using a root prexec script in either the
[netlogon] share definition or the [global] section are working, but not
exactly as expected.
In [netlogon] I have an entry:
root preexec = /path/to/script/makelogonscript.pl %g %u %m %I
...where makelogonscript.pl generates a

Plugins and Hiera
Dear all,
This is a continuation of another thread, but I think the question diverged
enough to create a new one.
I have a hiera hierarchy like this:
:hierarchy:
- %{fqdn}
- %{secundary_group}
- %{primary_group}
- %{productname}
- all
And I need to define the secondary/primary groups as facts, on the nodes. Gary
has suggested me to use plugins, that they will provide the facts before

Winbindd chokes on W2K users in only one group
Hi there,
I've been trying to set up Samba 3.0.14a with Active Directory
integration on a network with an ordinary W2k Server PDC. I'm currently
having a problem which I'm convinced has nothing to do with my Windows
or Samba configuration.
The problem only occurs when trying to connect to the Samba server from
an authenticated domain account which is only a member of the default

root prexec/postexec & login scripts
I have a perl script that I'd like to use to create windows 9x login
scripts at login time but I cannot get the process to work right. I have
RedHat 7.3 (actually the k12ltsp v2.1.0 which is a modified RH7.3) set
up as a domain controller which is working well. Manually created login
scripts run fine on the workstations at login. I'm using a netlogon
script I found at

Connection scripts with the 'prexec' clause
Hi all,
I am running Samba 3.0.20B on an AIX server with SECURITY=USER using an
LDAP backend. I am looking for a way to capture the actual
username(%USER_NAME%) that
the client user is logged onto his individual workstation with and compare
it with the user(%u) they are connecting with the share as. If they are
different, I want to reject the user's connection. After doing some

prexec change between 3.0.24 to 3.0.25
Hello,
I've been testing out 3.0.25 before putting it into production and came
across an issue.
As a simple example..
in a share definition
root preexec = echo "hey there, hi there, hello" > /tmp/hiya.txt
works fine under 3.0.24
not so under 3.0.25, /tmp/hiya.txt isn't created.
Cranking up the debugging and using some other similiar tests it seems
to me that Samba is in

send_file is behaving strange
Hi all,
I am using send_file("/path/to/my/file")to send a file from the
server to a client. The file is not empty but when displayed on the
client, it is totally blank. In windows system, it''s working properly,
the problem is only with a linux server

SHIFT+F10 behaving strangely after moving to 3.2 from 3.1
Since upgrading to 3.2.1 from 3.1.2 (both Debian produced packages from
Lenny), I can no longer use SHIFT+F10 to open up a command line screen
under Windows when doing an install.
It appears that only the F10 key is reaching the DOM0, not the shift
key. Shift otherwise works fine, exception in combination with F10...
I''m using ''VNC Viewer Free Edition 4.1.2'' from

Effect.Appear behaving strangely
Can''t seem to figure this scriptaculous out:
I''ve got some divs set to none that I''d like to have appear on body
load. The div named "image" appears just fine, but the divs named
"cd1", "cd2", and "cd3" won''t appear. I''m calling all of the
effect.appear functions through a single function called

Symlinks not behaving as expected?
My server is an AIX box running samba 3.0.4.
I have published a share of symlinked logfiles, because I want to publish
the logs but not the full directories in which the logs live. Here are
some examples:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 hmrbot mis 16 Sep 08 11:43 boxaudit-exempt ->
../../ant/exempt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 hmrbot mis 14 Sep 08 11:41 done.txn ->

Samba behaving badly with quotas
I have successfully added disk quotas to my FC6 system, so that the user
"backup" cannot create files more than 1 block on / The reason I
implemented this was because I backup my system to a USB drive mounted to
/media/drivebay/backup1. However, if the drive is not mounted, then my root
drive fills up (writing to the /media/drivebay/backup1 folder) and linux
hangs.
The problem is,
