Can't get "getent passwd" to display winbind users
Hi, I am running Samba 3.0.1 on a Debian/Sid machine. I have installed winbind to access the AD of the local network, which I want to use for UNIX logons. wbinfo -u shows all the users of the AD, but "getent passwd" only shows the contents of the file /etc/passwd. I have been following the instruction for winbind (Chapter 21) in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. Any comments would be

CUPS printers not visible, strange behaviour
Hello all, I've done this before before so I'm a bit confused, but I've upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0.4 on a debian woody box (samba 3.0.4 from backports.org). I also have cups 1.1.20 backport as well. I've set up printing using cups (should be simple right?) but no printers appear when I browse the computer from a W2k machine. rpcclient -c "enumprinters" gives me "No

rpcclient / adddriver returns WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi, I am trying to prepare downloadable printer drivers for Windows-Clients with Samba 3.0.0-final. Everything worked fine so far. But I found no way to add the printer driver files to the samba database. The method using the Add Printer Wizard in W2k did not work for me. This is what I tried: linux4:/# rpcclient -U'root%secret' -c 'adddriver "Windows NT x86"

shared cups printers disappeared
I have two computers, one with a HP printer on it and one with a Samsung printer on it. Both systems have their respective pritnters listed under system-config-printer and have "enabled" "accepting jobs" and "shared" checked. Up to a few days ago this worked fine. Suddenly I can't see either printer from the other machine and as far as I know nothing has

CUPS and Samba 3.0 - printers no show
Hi [Samba]s I have RedHat 8.0, and have installed a compiled CUPS 1.1.19pre4 and Samba 3.0 (latest this week from CVS). It all compiles and installs OK with CUPS support in Samba, but no printers show up (according to smbclient -L or from windoze) when "printing=cups" is used. It is OK if another form of printing is used, for example "printing=sysv". A reversion to Samba

After update from 3.5.x to 3.6.23 all printers configured in CUPS they are no longer shared
After update my PDC server from Centos 5.5 to 5.11 and then samba 3.5 to 3.6.22 all work fine, except printers: all CUPS printers shared are not visible and usable from clients. If I put manually each printer (like suggest here[1]) into smb.conf, all printers manually added are visible and usable (this is my workaround for now). In smb.conf I have set: load printers = yes

Printers configured using CUPS web interface disapper after restart
Hi all, I set up a samba server as PDC and counfigured one local printer connected to the samba server's parallel port and another jetdirect pritner with ip 192.168.0.10:9100 using the CUPS WEB INERFACE. Both were working fine and I could print from windwos clients also. Samba server was configured on a test system. So saturday evening I shutdown the system and today when I started the

Vanishing options in hp printer drivers
We're using a couple of HP printers (2200, 4200, 3390) using the HP PCL 6 printer driver. Printer drivers are installed on the samba (3.0.24) box, connecting, driver installation and printing work OK. Problem: using the same driver version with the printer shared by a windows box gives some additional options like - brochure printing - putting serveral pages on one sheet Any Idea why

Samba and printing=cups; printers disappear after a while
Hello there, We're using a reasonably large network of linux boxes, about 6 of them offering printing services through CUPS. This has worked remarkably stably for the last months, but we've got one lasting problem with Samba that someone may have a hint to offer. We use an smbd on one of the linux boxes that offers the shared CUPS printers to the windows clients on the network. Now

smbclient -L shows only a part of the shares
Hi, I am using Samba 3.0.1 under Debian Unstable (Kernel 2.4.22). (But also tried this with 2.2.8 with the same results) I use the command "smbclient -L netbios_name -Uname%pw" to list the shares of one of the servers of an ADS Domain. Unfortunately only about 30% of the shares of this particular server appear in the list. In windows all shares are visible. I used the same account in

samba printing with cups driver and cups with non PS printers
Hello, I just finished to read chapter 22 of the samba howto. This chapter explains very well how printing from a win client via samba and cups work. If I understood it right, printing a file from windows to a non postscript printer via cups driver, samba an cups works like this: - application prints generating an EMF file ( windows spooler ) - the cups ( or adobe ) printer driver converts

After 4.6 update: CUPS (via Samba): "'/printers/printers' no good!"
Since updating from 4.5 to 4.6 yesterday, I am getting a lot of CUPS errors. The error.log file is filling up with these messages: get_printer_attrs: resource name '/printers/printers' no good! And the access.log seems to be being polled often too, even in the absence of any print jobs submitted. On my network the CUPS-handled printer is exported from Samba. Given that the Samba

WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters Found 0 printers one system with 1 parallel CUPS printer
I've had this problem for a while, but only recently have I realized that I better fix it soon! I compile my own Wine out of git. Currently, I'm running wine-0.9.29-g5441536 but this issue appeared long before that. Moreover, I stopped being able to print between Wine updates, so I don't think it is anything to do with changes in Wine's code. The simplest way to reproduce my

Samba/Cups and printers
Hi All, I'm trying to get samba to work with a CUPS printer setup. Unfortuantely I'm falling over at the first hurdle. I've installed samba 3.0.12 from sources and I've a redhat 9.0 box running CUPS 1.1.71. I've installed the following smb.conf file:- [global] load printers=yes printings=cups printcap name=cups passdb backend = tdsam [printers] comment = All Printers path
