samba with pam_ldap authentication
Hi everybody, We have a Fedora Core 1 samba server and would like to authenticate it to an LDAP server using PAM. I installed nss_ldap, configured /etc/ldap.conf to match my settings and /etc/nsswitch.conf to use ldap. My /etc/pam.d/samba is like this : #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_nologin.so auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_ldap.so use_first_pass auth required

winbind/gdm auth failure
Dear Samba-Users, two problems to solve... 1) Trying to authenticate users via pam_winbind against NT-PDC (samba 3.0.4, Debian GNU Linux 3.0). Got shell login and ssh working, but won't be able to login via GDM to gnome or KDE. I do not really understand the difference between login/ssh module stack and gdm module stack. Log auth says something queerish: --- auth.log --- Jul 14 18:34:43

OpenSSH-2.1.1p4 and SuSE 6.4
Hi folks, I meant to send this in to the devel list a while ago (1 Jul, actually) but school has until recently had a strangehold on me. The issue is this: the sshd.pam.generic in the openssh-2.1.1p4/contrib directory can be modified to suit standard SuSE 6.4 configurations as thus: {crimsun@[dhcp1520]:~} diff -c /etc/pam.d/sshd openssh-2.1.1p4/contrib/sshd.pam.generic *** /etc/pam.d/sshd

Debian and dovecot
I have Debian 3.0 (woody) and installed the dovecot packages and it works ok with the default configuration. I want to change the default configuration, is any of this possible? a) I don't want to create accounts for each user, can I have a mailboxes directory with the mailboxes of all the users? They are not many (10-15). b) The authentication right now is done through PAM, the

su broken after ldap auth
hi, first of all, thanks to all the samba team for your great work and documentation. Well done! I have followed the 'By Example' guide, everything is working fine, except one thing. As indicated on chapter 5, point 14 of Configuration of smbldap-tools, when I try: # getent passwd | grep root I have 2 results, both id 0 root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash root:x:0:512:Netbios Domain

NIS, PAM, OpenSSH. Seems to work perfectly (one minor concern)
I just spent some time trying to figure out how to get OpenSSH to work correctly with NIS and PAM. It seems to work fine, apart from one minor worry I still have (see below). Feedback about grave security risks are welcome :) This is using RedHat 6.1 with updates and the OpenSSH 1.2.2p1-1 RPM's on the NIS server as well as the client. In short, my configuration is: /etc/nssswitch.conf:

samba 3.0.7 cannot join NT4 domain
I looked into the docs and searched thru the Net. Googling for "NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE" yields rather large list of questions about this situatins, but no working hints so far. I believe my samba installation is done very carefully (entirely unlike "grab rpm and be happy" style) and I can try to find out what's going on. Let me describe what do I have so far: My

OT: vmware server not accepting root password?
Sorry for the OT question; I'm hoping someone else has a similar setup and ran into this same problem? For some reason, not sure what I changed, my vmware server is no longer accepting the root login for the management console or web mui interface. I'm certain the password is correct, and I've even reset root's password to make sure. VMware seems to be running ok, I can access

pam_winbind.so user expired password config for Solaris /etc/pam.conf
I'm trying to configure my Solaris 9 pam.conf for CDE login/password expiration using ADS security on W2003. If my AD account password is in good standing, my config works great in /etc/pam.conf. However - I'm having trouble getting it to recognize that my password in AD has expired to ask me to reset it on the CDE screen. With the config below - it just tells me "login

solaris9+winbind+getent
I've searched the mailing list archives and google and seen quite a bit of this with no solutions. Was hoping to reach out here and find someone who has this working. 1. Solaris 9 (sparc) 2. Samba 3.0.28 3. ADS enabled, trying to integrate with a Win2k AD setup wbinfo works great. I can pull all the groups/users just fine. I've read where we need to kill the nscd daemon, done and no

root login using /etc/shadow bypassing winbind / ADS security
I'm wondering if anyone has tried use local Solaris NSS files for root-only login VIA the console or ssh - effectively bypassing domain security to the PDC using ADS - Windows 2003 AD? I am not having a problem logging as the non-admin user. I wish to login to the root account that would not be part of the ADS domain security eventually over an ssh connection or directly to /dev/console via a

winbind, active directory and solaris 8
Hi All, I have a sparc solaris 8 server running samba 2.2.11 (which i complied with winbind). The server has been running for years and has about 20 local users setup using local files for openssh and rexec logins, and samba shares. They each use samba to map to their home directory and a common shared folder. They also use rexec and openssh to login on the command line. 4 users are in a special
