mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all, I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that. so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files) I'm thinking of having the students run off of a

Exporting local policies on several computers
Hello everyone, Not really a Samba problem, but I hope someone can help me : I am doing some tests for integrating XP clients on Samba 3.02 with LDAP backend. I have tried this on a test machine on which I have applied local policies withthe gpedit.msc console (ie : Delete the roaming profiles or hide the logon scripts...) and this work perfectly. Now I'd like to do the same on other

gpedit.msc as centralized policy for 2k/xp clients in domain
I found this from http://charon.minilab.bdeb.qc.ca/anonym/nt/2000/ads/TTGW2KGP_Vol1through4.pdf I would like to figure out how to do this gpedit.msc+AD+gpc+gpt magic for win2k/xp with linux+samba(2.2/3.0/tng)+openldap and is it possible at all? Thanks. Although GPOs provide significantly more policy features than NT 4.0 System Policy provides, GPOs are stored and processed differently than NT

Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines u sing samba 3.2.3 ?
We make use of NT4 policies on our Samba domain. NTconfig.POL needs to be in \\domaincontroller\netlogon. I don't believe that you can use Active Directory GPOs (group policy objects) with a Samba domain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tony Hoover, Network Administrator KSU - Salina, College of Technology and Aviation (785) 826-2660

Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines using samba 3.2.3 ?
Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines using samba 3.2.3 ? In samba documentation in : http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/PolicyMgmt.html There is references to apply policies in NT/2000 Server and winxp clients, but it's not clear to me that will run fine or not using samba 3.2.3+winxp machines. WinXP - Not So Roaming profile
Hi folks, I am trying to deploy an LDAP based Samba3 PDC, migrated from an old WinNT4 Domain to support roaming profile for new WinXP clients. But I do not want a full roaming profile. AFAIK WinXP profiles tends to grow. If possible, I would like to roam only the desktop settings, and maybe the navigator (IE or Firefox) configuration. Another important (I believe) information is that our WinXP

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15] I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've recently encountered: Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and perfectly usable) by the old

[Samba} Can't do roaming profiles (Solved)
Through much help from a guy in my local LUG I found the solution to making roaming profiles work on Win2000 (SP4). 1) You should have SP4 installed. 2) Two registry changes are needed: Use regedit and change the following two dword attributes to 0 "requiresignorseal" "signsecurechannel" 3) Run the group policy editor "gpedit.msc" and enable the

Tips/hints for Windows network management
Hello, I'm looking for some extremely general tips/hints/ideas here, because I am sure that I may be missing out on some good ways of managing the Windows PCs on my network. This is what I have and what is available to me: - Samba 3.0.x (current Debian/Sarge version) - LDAP backend for Samba - Windows XP SP2 clients - Domain users are typically unprivileged users - A

how do I export nt2k policy to a file?
We migrated our entire domain over to a samba3 domain, now I would like to apply a few policies to the network. I've been reading a few migration papers, most mention about a .POL file which is created upon exporting policy keys on a wintel machine. Using gpedit I don't see an export option. What tool should I use for this? greg

issues with folder redirection and synchronisation
I have a samba/ldap PDC with a netlogon share and a samba member server (called sirius) with Profiles and homes shares (samba 3.0.14). Each user in the LDAP database has its sambaHomeDrive attribute set to "H:". I'm trying to follow http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold to configure my XP Pro client. It seems that I'm unable to have "folder

If yes, how can I make it ? Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.

Still mandatory profiles, every user same profile
Hi there, again me, again similar question. First of all, what is it, what I'd like to have: 1.) Every user in my System should use the same profile. In dsa.msc I gave every user as profile-path \\samba4\profiles\stud 2.) The users should not be able to change anything in that profile (I think changing ntuser.dat to ntuser.man should do the job, proposed i got step one managed ;) )
