PDC without profiles?
Hi -- I'd like to try running Samba as a PDC simply for authentication -- that is without doing any profile management, i.e. I'd like Windows to not write anything to the network after logout. Is this possible with Samba? I'm not seeing an obvious answer to this. Thanks! -jag -- Joshua Ginsberg <joshg@brainstorminternet.net> Brainstorm Internet Network Operations

Usermanager for domains 3.0.2a... This a known bug?
I have Samba version 3.0.2a-3mdk with an LDAP backend. Works great but I can't seem to get user manager for domains to work with it. I'm thinking that perhaps it might be a samba bug that has probably since been corrected. Can anyone validate this idea? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've a Samba PDC ( samba-server-3.0.6-4.2.100mdk ) My cleint machines are all XP Pro without SP2. Profiles upload but don't download?
Hello -- I'm testing out using 3.0.3 from the Fedora Core 2 distro (recompiled from SRPM to include ldapsam) as a PDC with an OpenLDAP backend. I've got the PDC functions working excellently. I've got Roaming Profiles (with the PDC as the profile host) partially working, but I can't get the full functionality I want. I have two test workstations that I'm working with. I

Printer on LDAP PDC debug help?
Mandrake 10.0 LDAP PDC with ldapauth. Server is a member of the PDC but not using winbind since we have ldapauth. Basically this just means that I used: net rpc join -U Administrator%PASSWORD I've been going by the HOWTOs and books from the beginning. I even have the Samba HOWTO Guide and Reference in dead tree format. Today I tried using a simple setup from this site:

Scaleable LDAP Backends for Samba; Domain Controllers group access
OK, just went through the research on how to set up scalable LDAP backends. By scaleable I mean without having Samba use the root dn to access ldap. This way, if you are going through the logs, you will be able to tell which domain controller is doing what. As far as I know, it *HAS* to be done this way because the posixGroup schema is way out of date (it wont take a dn as a member). This

PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello, I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs. As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one. As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a copy of a profile of a given user, right? If so, how can

Windows permissions
Greetings NG- I'm putting together a Samba domain for the first time, using 3.0.2a-Debian. I have created a good smb.conf file (based on the Howto book by John Terpstra), including the following line to disable roaming profiles everywhere: logon path = Thanks to Josh Ginsberg and company for that one! Now I have created one logon user and have logged on successfully from a Win2k/pro

Deleting Old Printer Drivers
Hi all, I am running samba 3.0.6 on Linux and am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to delete a print driver from the driver database? I have around 20 printers running off of this print server and occasionally we remove all of a certain type of printer. Also, for some reason, the drivers sometimes seem to become corrupt and it would be nice to be able to entirely remove a driver and

I have a couple of Windows 2000 boxes that only accept logons from users who have logged onto the system before. For new users the logon appears to succeed, proceeds to "Loading your personal settings" and then the following error appears - Windows cannot log you on because the profile cannot be loaded. Contact your network administrator. DETAIL - The system cannot find the file

Hello, have some little problems adding user to domain with USRMGR.EXE My System runs on SuSE 9.1 (2.6.5-7.75-default), samba-3.0.4, smbldap-tools-0.8.5, openldap2-2.2.6 If I try to add a new user with USRMGR.EXE I get an error "Access denied", but if I look into LDAP the new user was correctly added to LDAP.
