smbldap-populate issues?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, I appear to have some issues with smbldap-populate, this used to work fine but I've recently upgraded the dev box from RH8.0 to Fedora Core 1, I assume it's related but I'm not sure exactly how... As you can see the first ou creates work, so it must at least be binding to the ldap server, but it seems to have a problem with the

Pass iPhone/iTouch through kvm to Win7 VM?
I'm all Linux at home and trying to get a Win7 running in a VM on CentOS 5.6 and kvm to connect to my iTouch and iPhone. When I plug the iPhone in and run lsusb I get an address of 05AC:12A0 I put that into a hostdev block in the xml file that defines the VM. <hostdev mode='subsystem' type='usb' managed='no'> <source> <vendor

Pass iPhone/iTouch through kvm to Win7 VM?
Started this over on the main list, but remembered there is a CentOS-virt list also where this would be more appropriate. At home, I'm all Linux and only run Windows in VMs when I absolutely have to (e.g., TurboTax on Win7 during the tax filing season). Now I'm trying to get Win7 running in a VM on CentOS 5.6 and kvm to connect to my iTouch and iPhone so I can sync them with iTunes.

Strangeness with computer account layout in LDAP Schema?
Hello All, I've been trying to migrate an NT 4 domain from a PDC to samba using net rpc vampire, ran into various hitches along the way which now appear to be mostly sorted, but the created machine accounts do not appear to be in the correct format. Checking ou=Computers under the main tree, no entry under this branch has any space for an NT / LM password, here is an ldif dump of the

IPFW Bandwidth throttling?
I am trying to limit outgoing SMTP traffic to about 14 Mbps and these are the IPFW rules I am using. ${fwcmd} add pipe 1 tcp from 192.168.0.0/24 to any 25 out via dc0 ${fwcmd} pipe 1 config bw 14Mbit/s I've tried multiple tweaks to the pipe rule and I seem to be missing something. I only get about half the bandwidth I specify. Is this normal behavior? Is there something wrong

Samba/LDAP/PDC Questions
Greetings! I created a Samba/OpenLDAP/smbldap-tools Primary Domain Controller. So far I am able to do the folowing: 1. Using USRMGR,EXE to administrating users and groups. 2. Adding Windows 2000, XP workstation on the fly. 3. PDBEDIT/SMBLDAP-TOOLS/GQ all works as they suppose to. 4. LDAP autheticate unix accounts. However, I am not able to to the following:

net rpc vampire problems
I am trying to vampire the account database from my NT 4 DC (that has SP6A installed). The DC's name is nemesis. The samba computer's name is mjollnir. The directions seem trivial: 1.) Join the Domain as a BDC with: net rpc join -S nemesis -W WHSD -U Administrator this worked fine and I can see the computer listed in server manager with type "Windows NT Backup" 2.) Run

idmap_sid_to_uid is not get called?
Hi I have the following question: Joining Win200x as ADS/DOMAIN, I see no problems for windows users to get authenticated even if they don't have local accounts. However, with the same samba (3.06) joining NT4 SP6 domain I see that only users that also have entry in /etc/passwd are been authenticated. I followed winbindd traces and saw that there is no problem communicating with

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PD C?
"net rpc vampire ..." does NOT set the SAM or SECURITY hives of the registry to "readable", which is what renders the PDC non-operable. "net rpc vampire ..." is safe to use as many times as it takes to get comfortable with the process. I did it my self when I was converting our "labs" NT4 domain to Samba. --

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PDC?
Reading through the Samba3 -By Example guide and I'm confused with the statement section 9.2 http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2594565 about accessing the SAM and Security sections of the registry will render the PDC non operable. Its clear from the text if you go and edit the registry(regedit etc..) so you can read the entries your PDC will not work.

Vampire
Can samba4 vampire another samba4? After a dozen administrators there seems to be some oddities, and since we started with samba4 alpha9 (I think) it may be time to go straight to current release. I guess that the idea is to get a fresh start and I hoping that a vampire rather than an upgrade would only transfer the needed stuff... Am I doing the wrong thing? I now far to little of windows to
