Hello List, I'm planning a migration from Samba 2.2.7a to 3.0.2a, samba is actually running on Solaris 8.0 on a sun E450. Now, Looking at the smb.conf (the global parameters) what should I take care of? # Global parameters [global] domain logons = yes security = user wins support = yes create mask = 0600 directory mask = 0700 log file =

"Too many open files" error
We have a Sun E450 running Solaris 8 and Samba 2.2.8a as our domain controller. We have had no problems with Samba until earlier this week when we have started to get lots of these errors in log.smbd: [2003/08/08 16:29:14, 0] lib/debug.c:(348) Unable to open new log file /home/samba_pearl/var/log.smbd: Too many open file s This has been happening once a day, at the same time some users are not

SAMBA, NIS and NFS
Hi All Some background first I have been asked to set up an environment involving three machines 1. A windows 2000 client 2. A Solaris 8 E450 / NIS client 3. An SGI IRIX fileserver/ NIS server holding user home directories The E450 NFS mounts the SGI and users have their home directories on the SGI. When users want to test their application software they ssh from their windows client into

Chaning shares using Computer Management with W2k3.
I'm trying to change permissions and add shares and remove shares etc.. on my Samba-hosts shares (running 3.0.4 on Fedora, using the Computer Management-tool on Windows Server 2003. R script to start session (without automatically finishing)
Hello R friends I am quite impressed by the power of R, I am using it only since some weeks now. But its visualizing capabilities are outstanding! But one thing I couldn't solve: I have programs producing lots of data, most times 3D. In R I am using the library rgl to visualize nicely the 3D data. What I would like to do is to write R scipts which read in a data file and show me the 3D

Upgrade to 3.0.2a from 2.2.8a: Was working, no longer works
I moved my original smb.conf and secrets.tdb to a new installation of MDK 10.0 OE; what used to be a great working system no longer works; I've checked all the configs via Webmin/Samba/Swat modules, and still, nothing is working. Either from a windows machine or another linux machine, no access. I've also made sure all the users were sychronised (or at least I think I did it right) but

ldap_bind: Can't contact LDAP server (Solaris 2.6)
Hi, I'm having a problem with one of the servers, an Sun E450 Solaris 2.6 box, that after some time it will no longer be able to send out LDAP requests to the LDAP server. The response to every ldap query is: ldap_bind: Can't contact LDAP server Checking the netstat output I see a lot (over 300) of TIME_WAIT state request to the ldap server: r0104su03.34321 mailhost.389

rsync speed
Hi, I poked around the website and did some digging in the list archives but thought i'd better pose my question here. I'm using rsync to synchronize two directories on a Solaris 8 e450 server. rsync copies about 22GB per night. It seems to take 50 minutes for the copy to complete. which seems a little bit slow. I'm currently running # /opt/bin/rsync -v rsync version 2.3.1

CentOS 4.2beta on Sun Ultra 5 (sparc64)
I just wanted to bring some attention to the experimental build of CentOS that Pasi put together for sparc64 architecture. I installed it for the first time last night on a Sun Ultra 5 (333MHz, 256MB RAM, upgraded to 40GB hard disk). I installed it over a serial console as this is a headless system. Install went flawlessly. After the install was done and it booted up, I ssh'd in as root,

improving vorbis compression with arithmetic coding and by exploiting temporal redundancies
Hi! If you were looking foe a paper about improving vorbis compression by using arithmetic coding and exploiting temporal redundancies (i.e. repeating sound) you might have a look here: http://web.interware.hu/rudas Three ogg vorbis files were compressed losslessly, with compression ratios between 2 - 8 % and compression time about 1/500 realtime (i.e. slow). Theoretical upper bound of the

Anyone please make Wine permissive?
Sir, I am rishikeshan. I am a 14 years old student. I am interested in permissive open community. I hate copyleft. Don't fear of commercialization. It is needed to the earth. Actually, GPL is blocking the development. I will definitely help you if you make it permissive. Maybe you can make YOUR code permissive. How permissive nature help you? How can I get old BSD release? 1.Some commercial

percent rank by an index key?
What is the easiest way to calculate a percent rank “by” an index key? Foe example, I have a dataset with 3 fields: Year, State, Income , I wish to calculate the rank, by year, by state. I also wish to calculate the “percent rank”, where I define percent rank as rank/n. (n is the number of numeric data points within each date-state grouping.) This is what I am
