Propose mount.cifs/smbfs able to mount the child folder of share folder
Hi Samba team,
I feel user will feel more confortable when they can mount folder (via
mount.cifs or mount.smbfs) under particular shared folder.
Example:
I have a share folder call department, all department's folder arrange
inside
so I have a share folder call \\server\department
if I have a linux client under purchasing, I 2 command to get the
correct place, and I feel it is giving more

Can't mount samba shares
Honestly, it's enough to make you scream. :-(
I can't seem to mount a samba share:
$ mount -t smbfs //workhorse/OldHome /network -o
username=DACRIB+turgon,password=xxxxxx
mount error(13): Permission denied
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
(I'm logging into this laptop as the domain user DACRIB+turgon, domain =
DACRIB. That part works perfectly.)
I have

tail -f doesn't work on a smbfs mount
I mount a WinNT share using a samba client version 2.2.5:
smbmount -t smbfs -o username=user //ntserver/share /logs
Then I want to watch a log generated by Internet Information
Server (IIS) that grows continually:
tail -f /logs/zzz.txt
I can see the last lines in file zzz.txt the first time, but I
don't get the new lines that are appended in such file. From any

"Called name not present" - using smbclient from linux to access win98
Hi,
I am quite confused by the following observation.
I tried to use smbclient on a linux to access a Windows 98 se.
--- Smbclient //IP address/sharefolder -U username%passwd.
I got some errors like
Session request to [Ip address] failed (called name not present).
But I can use the same command from the same Linux to access a Window 2000
machine.
I also noticed that If I use the the

smbmount to Win2k dying after kernel/samba upgrades
Really odd problem that I'm having, and I'm totally clueless as to whats
causing it.
Scenario:
2 mounts from a W2K machine to a Linux box. The Win2k box gets powered
down overnight. Obviously during this, if i do a df it freezes because it
cant reach the drives. I used to be able to boot the machine back up in
the morning and it would see the drives again. Not anymore. The same

smbmount on redhat 9
I use samba in a very limited application to mount smb shares using smbmount. I have a simple script I use that mounts several shares to a variety of mount points as a specific user on my system. The script passes username, password, share, mount point, domain information to each call to smbmount. This script worked perfectly under redhat 8.0 but since upgrading to redhat 9 I have had some

I have searched the web for reasons for this stange behavior but could find no explaination or fix, there are however

Review about uid and gid mount option
Hi everybody!
I had a problem (now solved) with the UIDs and GIDs assigned to my SMB
filesystem once mounted. I have discovered several things and I wanted
to send my review to the list, maybe you'll find it usefull or maybe you
could add more info.
First of all let's describe the problem: I mount my SMB share (SAMBA
3.0.14a server) on my local filesystem (Linux box), but

smbmount/mount interaction
Hello,
I'm looking for some (user & technical) feedback on a change I'm
considering on how mount and smbmount works together.
The current way mounts are done are:
mount -t smbfs ... => smbmount ... => smbmnt
Possibly without the mount step. smbmount stays as a daemon and reconnects
when asked (unless it crashes).
Problems:
- Some mount options should affect if the mount

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from
RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM
and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use
RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use
Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works
Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

multiple mounts for a smbfs on the same mount point
Hi all,
I'm just wondering why smbmount allows the same mount point to mount several
times the same share while a normal mount operation (with a non-smbfs)
returns a busy mount point error.

Thanks a lot!
That would be great if you can explain further why and how the netbios
session requires the netbios name, not ip address,
Thanks again!

CentOS mount doesn't support smbfs type ?
Hi,
I'm trying to mount a Windows folder from a Linux box with the command:
# mount -t smbfs (...)
but I get the error:
"mount: unknown filesystem type 'smbfs'".
Does this mean that CentOS mount doesn't support smbfs type ?
If so, how can I enable it ?
I'm using 5.1
Any help would be appreciated.
Warm Regards,
M?rio Gamito
