Mounting samba shares
Hi, I'm trying to mount samba shares onto the file system, but at the moment i only seem to be able to mount them as root. I've tried changing the permissions on the mount point and even mounting it on a subdir of my home directory but mount just keeps telling me that only root can do this. I've put an entry for the mount in /etc/fstab with the user option, what have i missed? I'm

single storage server
I have a single storage server which exports /data to number of clients. Is it ok to access the data on the storage server directly (ie not via glusterfs mount) ? (I know this causes problems when there are multiple servers ). This would simplify some configurations. Nick

Using samba 3.2.1, when trying to mount cifs mounts at boot from in the /etc/fstab, I get the following error in my syslog: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -22 After enabling debugging from the /proc interface, I get this: fs/cifs/cifsfs.c: Devname: //skuld.tolharadys.net/greeneg flags: 0 fs/cifs/connect.c: CIFS VFS: in cifs_mount as Xid: 10 with uid: 0 fs/cifs/connect.c:

cifs mounts fail after kernel upgrade
Upgrading Debian testing's linux-image from 3.2.46-1 to 3.9.6-1 causes cifs mounts via fstab or command line to fail with return code -38 "function not implemented". Reverting back to the old kernel yields working cifs mounts. The only option I use is a credentials file. Attempting the mount without this option does not work either. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks, Dale

I think I'm having the exact same issue using sssd. All symptoms described by Patrick exists in my system except for the .com thing. I haven't tried it yet. mount.cifs and UID mapping
Hi! I have mounted samba disk with mount.cifs (smbmount has problems with codepage [Czech] - I can't use it). How do I map the server UID/GID to client UID/GID? (I can't have the same UIDs/GIDs on all computers.) Classic mount parameters uid/gid can't be used if "CIFS Unix extensions" are used on Samba server. Google has not answered my questions (maybe I asked wrong).

Issues with cifs mounts following Samba upgrade to 3.0.23a
My LAN includes a server machine running FC4, with several shares mounted with Samba. Yesterday, I upgraded the packages on the FC4 machine, and these included Samba, which is now at 3.0.23a. Unfortunately, this seems to have broken the mounted shares for my Ubuntu 6.06 installation on my Acer 1682WLMI laptop. The cifs module on Ubuntu reports as version 1.39. The symptoms are that I can

Samba 3.5 & CIFS mounts - long standing issue...
Hi. I can see that this is a long long standing issue... Apparently things changed in Windows 2008 R2, and after upgrade of domain from R1 to R2 cifs mounts don't work anymore between Linux servers. Windows can see Samba shares and mount them, but CIFS on another Linux box cannot... Here is a thread with explanation in lenght: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1178484 I get the

Winbind PAM authentication

I've gone through the Samba-3 HOWTO book and internet searches, but haven't found anything difinitive. I have been able to tell through experimentation that winbind doesn't work with "rsh auth", giving a

CIFS client mounts meta ops 30 times slow than server
Also from my observation, based on network packets and time measurements, it seems the CIFS clients haven't done any sort of cache. For example, doing a "ls" for 5 times on the same folder within a short period of time. The network packet sizes are almost equal every time and the time it takes is similar. Isn't there supposed to be some page cache or dentry cache that could
