PDC without profiles?
Hi -- I'd like to try running Samba as a PDC simply for authentication -- that is without doing any profile management, i.e. I'd like Windows to not write anything to the network after logout. Is this possible with Samba? I'm not seeing an obvious answer to this. Thanks! -jag -- Joshua Ginsberg <joshg@brainstorminternet.net> Brainstorm Internet Network Operations

How does the speed of SQL compare to the speed of LDAP? If the speeds are comparable, why bother with LDAP, which doesn't handle writes very well? Windows permissions
Greetings NG- I'm putting together a Samba domain for the first time, using 3.0.2a-Debian. I have created a good smb.conf file (based on the Howto book by John Terpstra), including the following line to disable roaming profiles everywhere: logon path = Thanks to Josh Ginsberg and company for that one! Now I have created one logon user and have logged on successfully from a Win2k/pro

Windows 7 32 bit doesn't "upload" the profile to the server on logout but Windows 7 64 bit does
Hello, I have a Samba 3 PDC running on SLES 11 SP3. All the machines have joined the domain correctly, and users can log to their profiles correctly. On Windows 7 64 bits profile roaming works nicely without any problem (login is just a bit slow and it takes about 45 seconds while logout is really fast). On Windows 7 32 bits profiles are "downloaded" from the sever correctly when a

Roaming profiles don't work properly on newly joined Windows clients

Just an update - I've double checked the other donated computer - it works perfectly fine, roaming profiles gets written to the server and no error message. So in fact, it's just one of

we don't want local profiles
Hi, we run RedHat 7.2++, SAMBA 2.2.3a-6 RedHat; SAMBA works as a PDC with roaming profiles. We use Win2K SP2++ Clients. Can somone explain to me, when a local copy of the profile is saved an how we can make sure, that there is only the sever-saved profile? (It's space wasting if 25 students have a local profile with x MB and the same on the server :-) ) Thanks for hints an tips! cu...

download/upload restriction.
Hi all I have following script in my server. Now I want to restrict ip 192.168.3.2 to 128kbps (downlink). But in this case client can download upto 500kbps and upload cannot exceed more than 20kbps. Now what should I do to restrict client 192.168.3.2 within 128kbps downlink and 64kbps uplink. tc qdisc del dev eth0 root tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1:0 htb tc class add dev eth0 parent

Sample code for doing a “chunked” webfile HTTP download, and then stream to HTTP upload to another web app?
Hi, QUESTION: Does anyone have sample code that shows how to do an (a) chunked HTTP file download, and then (b) stream this into the HTTP uploading of this to another web application with a file upload controller? BACKGROUND * I''ve been trying to "stream" an existing webpage to a separate web application, using normal http request response approach. * The issue I''m

[PATCH 0/2] Implement upload-offset, download-offset APIs, and hexedit guestfish command
This two-part patch implements the 'hexedit' command described here: http://rwmj.wordpress.com/2010/09/18/new-feature-guestfish-hexedit/#content The first part implements two new APIs for partial writing and reading of files. These are modelled after guestfs_upload and guestfs_download but allow you to specify an offset and (for download only) a size: int guestfs_download_offset

stage of data upload/download patch
Hey all, I'm looking at ways to upload/download to/from a datastore. I see it is on the todo roadmap wiki (http://libvirt.org/todo.html) and also on bugzilla at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=636130. It looks to be a low priority item, so I was thinking about writing my own patch for this when I ran across this thread http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.libvirt/35532.

Samba FAST upload, SLOW download?!
Hi guys, I am running samba 3.023 @ Debian 4.0 Etch (Still beta, but had the same problem om Debian 3.1r3) The strange thing is my upload speed is about 30MB/s, but the download speed is about 5MB/s. I have noticed breaks during the download. (look at attached images). The server is a Opteron 144 @ 1.8 GHz with 2GB DDR and 4 SATA disks in RAID 10 configuration (this should be good enough for a
