switching kdb off?
Is there any way (short of not patching it into the kernel) to turn KDB off on a given machine? There are some machines I do not want dropping into kdb when/if it oopses. Thanx, b.

[rproxy-devel] rdiff deltas not very good compared to pysync, why?

EXT3-fs error (device ide0(3,9)): ext3_readdir
Hi, yesterday I upgraded my kernel to 2.4.15-pre6 (after months of using only ac-kernels) and had my first ext3-error since 0.0.3 . syslog tells me : Nov 20 18:16:31 enterprise kernel: EXT3-fs error (device ide0(3,9)): ext3_readdir: bad entry in directory #47390: inode out of bounds - offset=0, inode=404363549, rec_len=4096, name_len=23 and the system remounted /usr to ro. ext3-0.0.6a available
Hi, ext3-0.0.6a has been uploaded to ftp.uk.linux.org:/pub/linux/sct/fs/jfs/ext3-0.0.6a.tar.gz and ftp.*.kernel.org:/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/ext3-0.0.6a.tar.gz This version changes the way dirty buffers are marked to protect against device drivers which might block in the ll_rw_block() function. (Loop and lvm are examples.) It should also fix a rare but persistent report of

MD4 bug in rsync for lengths = 64 * n
I am the author of BackupPC (http://backuppc.sourceforge.net) and I am working on adding rsync support to BackupPC. I am implementing the server-side in perl, and the client will run vanilla rsync. (BTW, is there the protocol documented? I've answered all my questions by looking at the source, but it would be great to check against any docs.) I started with librsync 0.9.3 and the

BUG: warning at kernel/softirq.c:141
Hello ext3-users, we have an oopsy situation here: we have 4 machines: 3 client nodes, 1 master: the master holds a fairly big repository of small files. The repo's current size is ~40GB with ~1.2 M files in ~100 directories. Now, we like to rsync changes from the master to the client nodes, which is working perfectly for 2 nodes, but our 3rd node oopses "sometimes", rendering

winbind sometimes does not resolve sid to a name
Sometimes a group sid does not get resolved to its name. Is this a settings problem? Looks like winbind deamon went dormant for a while and then woke up? I am using interface wbcLookupSid provided by the library libwbclient.so for resolving sids to names. These are the winbind related parameters in /etc/samba/smb.conf [global] # separate domain and username with '\', like

Dead puppies (and Linux boxen) aren't much fun.
Fellow riders of the bleeding edge of ext3 technology, I've been playing with ext3 on my workstation. For the most part it has worked very well, but right now I have a non-functional system. I've got patches out the wazoo on this kernel - 2.2.18 + Alan's 2.2.19pre13 + ext3-0.0.6a + i2c-2.5.5 + lm_sensors-2.5.5 + udf-0.9.3. Here is the output I get: EXT3-fs: WARNING: recovery

ext3 0.0.7a Assertion
Hi, Doing the following I can generate an assertion in ext3 0.0.7a. I have an ext3 filesystem on /foo. I export /foo via nfs. I then mount via localhost:/foo onto /mnt. Start up a dd to generate a file on the nfs mount. (cd /mnt; dd if=/dev/zero of=./dd.out bs=1024k), then on the localhost filesystem /foo I rm the file. rm -f /foo/dd.out. This results in "ext3_free_inode: bit already

number of aces in big endian format?
Hello, Not exactly samba but related to ntfs acls, so hope do not get flamed! Recently I am seeing a response to get security descriptor query to Windows server as Malformed Packet in wireshark trace and the number of aces in the dacl in big endian format. I thought all the data over the wire was in little endian format! I have seen this on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Have not

msdfs problems
I have setup samba with msdfs, and configured it. The problem is that it works with some windows 2000 workstations, but not with others, even if they are at the same service pak levels. I.e, I have workstation a and workstation b, both running 2000. On workstation a, I can map the dfs share to a drive, and be able to access everything in that share (which is different shares on different

The filesystem is ext3 both on the hdd as well as have made ext3 partitions to the hdd. I have 2 use-cases really :- 1. take an image of my /home/shirish the first time (without the .something files) all the

multiple smb commands (some non AndX) in one packet
Does samba server handle multiple smb commands (not necessarily andx commands) within one packet? If a client were to send commands such as 0x2f, 0x32, 0x32 in one packet instead of three separate packets, does samba server handle it i.e. respond to each of the three requests?

howto for compiling libtheora on ubuntu 9.04 anybody ?
Hi all, While we were talking of theora PPA's it occured to me is there somebody who has made a howto to compile libtheora 1.1 alpha support in ubuntu 9.04 Why? 2 reasons . a. Whether we like it or not, Ubuntu is arguably one of the more successful distributions. b. When we compile any software we have the freedom and choice to add in flags which make it better for the individual. --
