This is still a apain, nmbd just dies off and therefore fails domain
logins..

nmbd dies every day
Hi there, i have 2 samba servers (1 with ver 3.0.0-15 - will do an
update soon - other with 3.0.2-7.FC1) both installed on Fedora 1.B and
my problem is that for some reason one of them (3.0.0-15 to be exact)
stops every day a few hours after everybody goes home. I had the same
version on the other server and that never happened. Please any ideas
why this happens?

nmbd dead but pid file exists
I'm having a lot of problems with nmbd quitting while I'm working. 'service
smb status' shows samba running, but 'nmbd dead but pid file exists'. Log
files show lines like
nmbd/nmbd.c:reload_interfaces(229)
reload_interfaces: No subnets to listen to. Shutting down...
Googling hasn't come up with anything helpful. Has anyone any idea what is
happening and what

Samba 3.4.9 net rpc shutdown and XP Domain client
Hi @all,
this is an very old problem, posted the first time 2005 to
samba-testers at samba.org:
If I have a Domain client with WinXP, which is part of a domain and
using this client, if the PDC is not available and want to remote shut
down this client with the net tool from other servers, then this is not
possible, because net tries to authenticate against the PDC:

Samba not seeing any interfaces
I've built samba for an embedded mips platform. Since this is an
embedded platform, it's possible that some critical file that samba
needs is missing but stracing the daemons doesn't reveal anything strange.
It's running 2.4.34 kernel.
Samba is failing to find any interfaces.

Upgrading from samba-3.0.34 to 3.4.4 - result: domain controller unavailable
Hi.
Today I upgraded samba from 3.0.34 to 3.4.4 without changing anything in
smb.conf but with changing local and domain sid:
old samba 1) net getdomainsid and getlocalsid
new samba 2) net setdomainsid and setlocalsid to ones (both the same)
from 1)
after restarting samba I can't log into domain: XP says : domain
controller unavailable ... I tried to rejoin domain - and I can ;)

winbind offline logon
Hi all!
As a die hard slackware user and as a part of my learning pam process I installed debian bookworm (12.4.0) in a vm and setup a domain member server per the instructions in the wiki trying to figure out how debian does it so I can correct some issues I have with how it's done in slackware.
Everything seems to be working fine except for the winbind offline logons, what I tried was to

Environment variables in smb.conf -- inconsistent results
Hello!
I am trying to use environment variables in my samba configuration file.
The %$() directive does not seem to work consistently. Do I misunderstand
something?
As a success example, "include = %$(SVCDIR)/conf/smb-shares.conf" works
fine. Logging with debuglevel = 3 indicates successful inclusion of the
secondary file.
However, as a failure example, "interfaces =

msdfs
Hello,
Last week I submitted a problem with msdfs on samba.
I didn't receive any reaction. I've also tried the samba-cvs version but
this
has also problems.
We really like to use msdfs from samba, because we want to put all our
homedirectories
( more than 4000 ) in one dfsroot. This is not possible with Microsoft's
dfs because this
has a limit of 1000 .... I didn't found this

How about this option for nmbd?
Hi,
please imagine the following scenario:
We have 4 local samba networks consisting of multiple
samba machines and Win95 and NT machines as well. They
all talk to each other and all works well. We have one
central (samba) WINS server for all 4 nets. These
4 nets are connected together and communicate to
the outside world through a firewall.
Now I want to connect to exactly one share on the

nmbd: No subnets to listen to. Shutting down....
Morning,
I'm running the HP version (CIFS) of 2.2.8a on a HPUX server. This morning
a user complained that they could not connect to their share. What I found
in the log.nmbd is:

When I checked the log file, I found out that this has occured a few other

smbclient queue and cancel commands not working
Hi,
I'm trying to manage printer queues on a XP box in the lan. Other client
commands work well, even
echo "test" | smbclient //XPBOX/PRINTER -c "print -"
works as expected and starts a print job. But either queue and cancel
don't work, without debug flags with no errors. Cancel even says job is
deleted. With -d4 I see

Samba-3.0.34 can ADS join but not non-ADS join.
I was using Samba-3.0.14a perfectly fine.
Now, I'm trying to use Samba-3.0.34.
I can do an "ADS" join fine with Samba-3.0.34, but I cannot do my old
non-ADS join anymore. Winbindd starts and stays running fine, but when
I run net to do the non-ADS join I'm running into a strange "interfaces" issue.
It now wants an "interfaces" line in the smb.conf file when
