I have roughly 80 or so packages sources. These were obtained by taking
a snapshot of certain CRAN packages a few months ago using
install.packages(
pkgs = pckNames,
destdir = "/home/max",
repos = "http://cran.r-project.org"
dependencies = c("Depends", "Imports", "Suggests"))
We need to install these versions of the

(Semi-OT) QoS Question FTP Living with Asterisk
I have searched google and came up with too many options and packages
that may or may not work for my needs, most articles seem to be for
setting up routers. Maybe someone on the list can give me some better
insight.
I have monitoring turned on my "shift eight (tm)" (Asterisk ;-)) box for
all calls. We have over one hundred agents and tons of recordings in
wav format. I also

Standardized Benchmarking?
Hello all,
I'm creating a site where people can share their benchmarks. If you are
interested, the site is at (I just started on it so it has the stock
graphics and color scheme still):
www.dcsnow.com/mambo
I would like some thoughts on what would be a good way to standardize the
testing so the results are more comparable. Is Bonnie+ a good program for
hard drive speed testing? Is there

how to know when files have finished ftping? --antairrestored
Just to chime in here, what I use is another file that is transferred
last. It can be zero sized. Just some name you look for and then delete
when you are done for next time. It doesn't matter how long that one
takes because you will know that the important files are already
transferred.

Limiting files when using rsync
I use the following command to sync the home directory on the two
computers, however I would like not to send the "dot" files e.g.
".ssh". Can that be done, and if so, how would I construct the command
line?
/usr/bin/rsync -av -e ssh /home/ 192.168.0.22:/home/
Many thanks....

Performance problem
Hi, I am running rsync version 2.5.7 (stock distro on redhat linux, ES
and 9) to rsync a directory with ~300k files in it from a machine on a
10Mbit internet tap to a machine with a 100Mbit internet tap. The
problem is that I am only getting about 500Kbps during the transfer. I
have tested link speed by scping a file between the two systems,
performance was approximately 7.5Mbit/sec. Ping time

Unusable performance over WAN (part 2)
Hi all,
Disregard my previous posts, I've consolidated everything here.
I'm having terrible performance issues with samba over a WAN
(point-to-point T1 link).
Doing a copy of a 2MB file from a samba server to a linux client
running smbclient takes over 5 minutes.
SCPing the same file takes seconds.
The server is running samba version 3.0.25c with kernel 2.6.16.18.
I've put up a set

Thick head still having problems with subnets (?)
I have defined a Home zone and placed it before the Net zone. Defined a
host 192.168.174.242 as a trusted host. Now if I ping from 242 to my fw
it works just fine (also tweaked the norfc1918 file).
Thing I do not understand is why if I try pinging or FTPing from FW to
242 I hit the all2all reject rule !
I tried reading the rules and from the INPUT chain I see a eth0_in chain
which in turn

astmanproxy?
Hi,
We currently fire multiple HTTP requests (via multi-curl) to the AJAM
interface in order to place calls. We are finding Asterisk has it's
limits however, and I've found astmanproxy recommended for helping
maintain the connections. This would prove particularly useful with
multiple servers of course.
However, in testing astmanproxy crashes with buffer overflows.
This leads to the

Asterisk Appliance
I'm looking for some info on the Asterisk Appliance.
I understand it has a gui, but can I still do all the dialplan config
that I'm used of doing by hand outside of the gui? If I really wanted
to, could I even ignore that the device has a gui and do all my config
in the files? I guess I'm just wondering if it will be as flexible as a
'vanilla' asterisk install from source on a

Users and ftp
I have vsftp chrooted so that users can only come into their home directory.
I have a few virtual hosts.
I have the websites in the home directory of the intial user for each site.
So the sites look like this.
/home/user1/html
/home/user2/html
Using vsftp, I have set the default to chroot a user to their home
directory. So user1 ftping in whill go right to his directory and not be

those who doesn't have an account on our UNIX box and be able to use it on

Hello list,
I have network problems on dom0
I discovered this trying to copy user''s homes from another box onto dom0.
I have tried this via mouting tcp nfs and also via ftp. Both methods
give me the same problem.
When I try to send lots of continuos traffic the tcp connection bottoms out.
I get this on dom0

I get this in my security postings.
Jun [undisclosed time] [undiscl.] login: 2 LOGIN FAILURES ON ttyv2
Jun [undisclosed time] [undiscl.] login: 2 LOGIN FAILURES ON ttyv2, qmaild
As it turns out, I'm not running qmail :) And if I did, it would
definitely have a nologin shell. But that's beside the point-
I have had a perception that ttyv was for local/console logins, and that
