Migration to 3.0 with LDAP
I need to try and kill two birds with one stone, and I want to make sure I don't do something stupid (something I excel at, lol) We are currently running RH 7.2 with Samba 2.2.7. Since 7.2 is being EOL'd at the end of the year, and I am less than impressed with 9, I am going to need to upgrade our server and I am seriously considering a switch of distros at the same time. To facilitate

PDC problems
I have a Samba PDC, running on Centos 4. The samba version is 3.0.23d.30. I have an LDAP backend. Everything seems to be running fine. I recently configured a BDC, to help with load balancing and to act as a backup in the event the PDC went down. Before I installed the PDC, when a new user logged into the domain, their home directory on the PDC was automatically mapped to the drive letter U.

BDC problems
I have had a samba PDC up and running for about a month now with no issues, this weekend I added a BDC and it seems that all my clients are now logging into the BDC automatically instead of the PDC. I had to mount the homes from the PDC to the BDC so that users can have access to their home directories and set the path to the profiles directory on the BDC to that of the PDC. I also had to

2.2 profile migration to 3
Hi, I am almost ready to switch over from 2.2.7 to 3 but found that a user profile created in 2.2 doesn't work in 3- ie; during login to a Samba 3 server, an error occurs and profile modifications are not permitted or recognized. This may seem trivial but I have 50 users, each with complex desktop setups which help them with there daily tasks of CG post production (so some of you know

What NetBIOS name for SAMBA BDC
I have a Samba PDC working fine (NetBios name FI0X07) and I'm trying setting up a Samba BDC but I can't have it working!! The problem is: - if a set the BDC NetBIOS name the same as PDC, if I shut down the PDC the BDC works but if the PDC is restarted the BDC doesn't stop autenticating users. - if a set the BDC NetBIOS name different if I stop the PDC the BDC doesn't authenticate

Samba works GREAT with these exceptions...
Hello everyone. I think Samba is wonderful. I have a full domain running here using ldap servers as the back end. The PDC connects to the master LDAP server while the BDC's do localhost lookups as they are slave LDAP servers. The following are snippets of logs that are appearing on my syslog host. Error is on top explanation below. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I am running

Is Samba Acting as a BDC
I believe I've set up a machine as a BDC for a Samba PDC and I'm trying to test that. Doc sources are the Samba3 Howto and Samb3 by example. net lookup dc (run on bdc or other samba server)lists 2 IP's that indicate that it is in fact a BDC. net lookup dc 172.21.1.10 172.21.1.30 However nltest on an XP machine reveals: C:\>nltest /dclist:CMT Domain 'CMT' is pre Windows

NT4 Migration Question
A client has an existing NT4 domain with several NT4 servers. Two of the NT4 Servers function as a PDC and a BDC. We are installing Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro as a PDC with an LDAP backend, and decommissioning the NT4 PDC at the same time. So far, so good. We can also rebuild the old PDC hardware as a Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro BDC. Unfortunately however, the NT4 BDC cannot be removed from the network

samba member server auth issue
i currently have a samba pdc, samba bdc and samba member server all running samba-3.0.23c-1.fc5. up until the 3.0.22 releases, i never had any problems with users authenticating to member servers. problem now is, a user from windows xp professional (which is part of the domain) can auth to the pdc and bdc, but not to the domain member server. the same thing happens from windows xp home (even

RE : Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Are you sure of that ? I thought it was possible... If it is not, I've got another slightly off topic question : how to I demote my former Windows NT PDC (that is now a BDC) to a normal Windows NT server, so that I have no problem with it ? Thanks in advance. -------- Message d'origine-------- De: Umberto Zanatta [mailto:uzanatta@provincia.treviso.it] Date: lun. 26/07/2004 14:09

Painless migration from 2.2.x on old server to 3.0.x on new server needed ASAP
I need to painlessly migrate on old Samba 2.2.x installation to a new server running 3.0.x (3.0.14a for now). Time is of the essence as a hardware problem is causing intermittent operation of the old server that seems to be getting worse (actually it is looking doubtful that it will be back up at this point). I do have a backup of the smb.conf, the Samba .tdb files, /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow.

migration of PDC tdbsam backend to BDC - failed to fetch domain database
Hello According to NT4 Migration Using tdbsam Backend http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2604610 I would like to transfer PDC settings (users, groups sids) to BDC and later make from BDC PDC machine. I have Fedora Core 7 PDC(hostname serwer) and Centos 5.4 BDC (hostname serwer2) both on tdbsam backends. I have copied smb.conf, passwd, group, shadow, secrets.tdb files

BDC do not respond, no PDC :: no authentification. any idea. my smb.conf : [global] # Main Config. netbios name = LYS workgroup = TNN server string = Lys (TNN's PDC) security = user domain

Backup Domain not working
I recently set up a backup domain controller using Samba 3.0.23. I have a Samba PDC already running, and all is working fine, but once I added the BDC, now when people log in to their windows account, their home directory is now being mapped to their home on the BDC (which is empty) instead of the PDC. Conf files from each below: PDC Samba Conf: [global] unix charset = LOCALE

Samba 3.0 a BDC to a Samba 2.2.7 PDC ?
I currently have Samba 2.2.7 running as a PDC. I was wondering if I can implement Samba 3.0 on another server and have it act as a BDC to the original (samba 2.2.7) PDC. I this possible? Has anyone else done this? According to 'The Official Samba-3 Howto and Ref guide' "Samba-3 is capable of acting as a Backup Domain Controller (BDC) to another Samba Primary Domain Controller

PDC/BDC Problem
Hi all, I'm rather new to samba and trying to deploy a PDC/BDC Setup for our company. Got some books and the manpages here to help me :) The config-files are attached at the end of this mail. Used Samba is 3.2.7-11.6 on a SLES11 system. The PDC is running as ROLE_DOMAIN_PDC says testparm, the BDC as ROLE_DOMAIN_BDC. Both DCs use a LDAP (OpenLDAP 2.4.12-7) for user authentication. The LDAP
