open failed (Too many open files in system)
I am running Samba 3.0.5 on OS X 10.3.8 Server. It's the stock Samba
supplied by Apple with no modifications. I am running a variety of
shares on the system to around 50 PC clients.
I came into the office this morning with a dead Xserve... could not
login, could not ping or ssh into the system. Users in the office
could not even browse the network. When they tried to browse the

How to access Samba file share from Windows w/o requiring guest logon?
I've attached an Apple XServe to our Windows domain, and have successfully
setup all the Active Directory integration.
I've been able to expose a file share to Windows via Samba from the XServe,
but it's still requring a guest account login.
For example, when i try and open <file://\\xserve\AppStorage>
\\xserve\AppStorage from the Windows Explorer, it shows a username/pwd

OS X Hang Issue
Hello List,
I have a bit of a strange problem with an OS 10.3.3 XServe (Samba
3.0.2) that I've inherited from a previous sysadmin ;). It's a bit hard
to describe but I'll do my best and include applicable log files and the
smb.conf.
Ok, first of all this machine is bound to our Active Directory domain
and authenticates users there (security = ads). It uses the Windows

browsing/nmbd problem - OS X
Hi,
I would be very grateful if anyone could give me a bit of help
with this. I am trying to run Samba 3.0.5, as distributed with Mac
OS X server 10.3.8, on an Apple Xserve. Things were working
beautifully until I had problems with an IP address change and had to
reinstall everything.
At present, the situation seems to be that the smb protocol is
operating, since I can make an smb

Mac OS X Server 10.3: Monotonically increasing Samba processes?
Through my Server Admin, a graph of Samba "connected users" shows that
the number of smbd server processes grows and grows without end --
processes never time out/log out and die. This was no problem under
light usage, but when I moved a heavily used share to the server, the
number of processes spun out of control.
What made it all worse was that many of the supposedly dormant

BDC cannot contact PDC on different subnet (3.0.10)
Hi everyone,
I am struggling to promote a samba 3.0.10 standalone server to a BDC,
because it cannot contact the PDC which is on a different subnet
connected via a VPN.
Having lost several days I believe this may be because it Samba is
broadcasting WINS domain discovery requests on its local subnet, which
of course it not reaching the PDC as broadcasts are not sent across the
VPN. The PDC is

joining xp to domain
I have a mac osx 10.2.3 as a server, anyone unfamiliar with it, it uses
admin as main user. root is still on the system. Admin is admin of the
password server which is required to login to samba. therefore root can't
be the one to join. yet admin doesn't have rights to modify smbpasswd.
I know the smb.conf config should work.
I have added the users and machines using smbpasswd

Cannot connect MacOSX domain member to PDC
I have a PDC which is a Sun280R with Solaris 8 running PCNetlink2.0
(effectively a WindowsNT4.0 server)
I want to join a Apple G5 with MacOSX10.3.3 (Samba 3.0) as a domain
member of the above PDC.
It will not allow me to do this and has lots of "master browser -
unknown" in the logs of the Apple.
I have the IP address in the same range as the PDC and have the netmask
set the same

Newbie question: ZFS on Xserve RAID with Solaris 10
--Apologies if you get two copies of this message - it was submitted
for moderation and hasn''t appeared on the list in two days, so I''m
resubmitting.
Hi all,
Just a quick question. Is it possible to utilise an Apple Xserve RAID
as an array for use with ZFS with RAID-Z in Solaris?
I''ve seen various mentions of ''zfs'' and ''xserve

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to
the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just
works.
Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part
of the transaction below (loglevel 4).
Steps to replicate:
a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers
b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U

Ruby IO on brand new xserve with Leopard Server

Invalid key 0 given to dptr_close on Samba 4.1 Domain Controller/File Server
Hello,
I am currently working on a solution to replace Apple OpenDirectory on some aging Xserve hardware. I currently have CentOS Samba4 AD DC?s replicating for redundancy using sernet-samba repositories. The third one has File/Print roles defind and it works perfectly EXCEPT on OSX 10.6. IT works great on any Windows workstation and OSX 10.7,10.8, 10.9 GNOME/Nautilus and even CIFS CLI mounting

"username map" parameter not working after upgrade to SAMBA 3
I have been using the "username map" parameter for some time on various
versions of Samba 2, and it has worked nicely. Last week I upgraded to
Samba 3 and integrated with Active Directory. Since I am using Solaris
8, and "nsswitch.conf" doesn't support winbindd, I am using the "add
user script" parameter to add users. What is happening is that users in

The bug appears on an old Xserve (mac OS X 10.3.9 powerpc), but not on
my macbook pro, or even a generic 686 linux box.

Cannot access HOME folder after upgrading to 4.8 from 4.6
Hello-
I upgraded Samba from 4.6 to 4.8 on a FreeBSD 11.2 server. After the upgrade, users cannot access the HOME folder share but they can access other shares just fine.
I am using the RID backend on this member server that connects to Windows-based domain controllers. I apologize for the lengthy smb4.conf but here it is:
