XP will no longer download print drivers
We're using Cups and Samba with Adobe Postscript Drivers to print from XP SP2 machines via our Solaris and Linux Domain Controllers. Everything has been working OK, but when I setup an a new printer (identical ppd file to another one), it doesn't download the drivers on XP when I add the printer. This is happening on two domain controllers in different offices. It gives the error when

imprints driver upload failure on 2.2.8a
I installed samba 2.2.8a and imprints 0.0.9b on a freshly up2date Redhat 8.0. I tried to install a driver using: install_printer_drivers.pl -host imprints.sourceforge.net 'HP LaserJet 8100' The driver files were copied into the /etc/printers/W32X86. But samba created another directory, /etc/printers/W32X86/2 with uid and gid of nobody, nobody. It then reported an "ERROR!" and

Hi Kurt, I tried to explain my problem to you at Göttingen but it looks like I'm the only one who gets this error. I've just reinstalled my box with SuSE 8.2, kernel 2.4.20-62, samba 2.2.8a, and cups 1.1.18, moved all config files, databases, scripts and jobs to it and it looks like samba has become even better and faster. No one noticed anything wrong except I just can't come to

Fedora, Cups, print$, and Windows XP - Oh my :) Round 2 - FIGHT
Hello from Canada! I'm posting again about a problem I posted about in February, I'll repost the message here, with updated information. When I read that it was a possible/probably bug with Samba, I decided to wait a while and see if it wasn't hashed out by now. It doesn't appear to be fixed (or I messed up). Anyways, here is the information with updates. A "*" indicates

Samba 2.2.8a and HP-UX 11.11 (11i)
I read a message from the archives that describes nearly our exact problem that has begun to appear after 11i was installed on our server. File access has become slow and unreliable, especially under high loads. As a matter of fact, I had a logon script running a series of echo -- it was executing them at about 1 line every 2 seconds. The way we "solved" the problem was moving the Samba

cli_pipe: return critical error. Error was Call returnedzero byte (EOF), hilfe!
Hi Kurt, I've read the new document. It's a very fine piece of technical documentation. However, it doesn't help me in the present predicament. Going now by this book I'm only getting more frustrated. I'm stuck! For example adding driver with rcpclient invariably ends in "Segmentation fault" (Signal 11) immediately after pop_sec_ctx, whose push counterpart was

High cpu load
Server is PII-350MHz/256 MB RAM, hardware mirrored high speed SCSI disks. Installed is SuSE 8.2 with Samba 2.2.8a RPM, XFS filesystems and LPRng as printservices. Server acts as PDC and WINS server. Clients are W2K SP2 (a few with SP3). There are +/- 100 clients. We see a server that is 100% busy and we see during a long time a very high CPU load (60- 95%) related to one W2K client. When

Samba 2.2.8a Print Driver Issues Solaris 8
Hi; I've reciently upgraded 3 print servers on Solaris 8 from Samba 2.0.9 to 2.2.8a and am running in to difficulties related to clients being able to configure printer drivers. I do not use the [print$] for serving up drivers to install from the print server. I provide access to drivers from a common share from the Microsoft Domain the print servers participate in. I'm still using the

Implementing printer drivers using [print$]
Hi All, I'm implementing a Samba as print server and I would like to share all drivers to be installed on clients using the "print$" share (to be installed automatically). My system is a SUSE 9.1 Professional, and the samba version is samba 3.0.4-1. The drivers are located on /var/lib/samba/drivers. I have made some tests with 3 printers (all had functioned correctly). To install

My W2k client generates internal errors / panic in samba ?
I have a small site running Samba 2.2.8a from SuSE and I started wonder about the "stability" of Samba running with W2K clients, when I installed W2k on a machine that previous ran Win.98 without any problems. After the W2K installation's had been finished (with all security fixes, new drivers etc.) I noticed that when accessing shares on the samba server, Samba began generating

Can't print multiple copies from XP to Samba 2.2.8a on Linux, hp 932c
We've been using samba for in house domain serving for a small network of XP machines. We have an HP 932c shared via samba 2.2.8a on a Linux box. We loaded the drivers that come with windows on the print$ share for automatic installation. In samba, the print command is "lpr-cups -P %p -o raw %s -r". Printing single copies works fine. When we hook the printer directly to a xp
