allowing windows xp local service with systems accounts rights to access samba share
I am trying to use 'wpkg' omn win xp sp2 machine, a windows package
installer service, to access shares on my domain server.
'Wpkg' is running as a local service on a windows xp box that is joined
to a domain, and I would like this local 'wpkg' service that is running
with local systems rights to access files on a samba domain share.
I have played with a number of options

SV: Samba + AD etc.
Hi Ross!
All our windows-clients works well with Samba 3.0.14a (WinXP and TS 2003
sp1). Perhaps the changes made for ADS SP1 somehow can affect ADS 2003
(without sp1) in the same way that ADS 2003 sp1 did for our Samba 3.0.9. But
that is only a wild guess.

Ps: please answer to the list instead to me.

AW: Administrators and Users Rights for Windows workstations
Hi,
it's simple:
1.) put all users in YOURDOMAIN\Domain Users or YOURDOMAIN\Workstation Admins or what you would like
2.) put this group (YOURDOMAIN\Domain Users, YOURDOMAIN\Workstation Admins) into the local group
Administrators of each Workstation (you may use vbscript to automate this...)

Interminttant trouble with DFS shares on XP clients and 2.2.8a
Hi all,
Having just upgraded our IRIX 6.5 servers from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8a,
we're now having trouble with the DFS shares that it serves to our site.
Browsing (from 'Start|Run' \\servername) shows the folders we've set
up. Double clicking on these allows us to go into them and see the DFS
pointers.
Double clicking on these produces:-

File access rights and usernames from Windows XP client
Hi,
I have recently set up a small network containing a Debian Samba 2.2.3a-12
server
and Windows XP pro and Windows ME clients. The Linux box acts as a domain
master,
and this seemingly works flawless with XP. However, I'm having trouble
getting writeaccess
and translating the usernames on the XP client to the corresponding ones on
the Linux box.
What I'd like to accomplish is this:

Unknown auth type
Hi!
I have upgraded our samba from 3.0.9 to 3.0.20 when upgrading our server
to Suse 10.0.
But now our windows-clients have problem to reach the shares in some
circumstances.
They can browse the network find the server and then gain access to the
shares (if the start from "entire network".
They can map a unit to a share.
They can't write in the adress-fields, access denied,

setting access rights for shares not working for groups
Hi list,
i have a really strange problem with samba3
i have my useres, groups and machines in a ldap backend.
also i configured /etc/nsswitch.conf so that users and groups have posix
accounts.
with getent passwd and getent gorups i see all users and groups.
The usermanager on windows-machines also sees the groups and knows which user
is in wich group, so this part seems to be working.

Samba PDC:Win XP client:profile problem:must be local admin
I've got a problem with roaming profiles. I've googled, trolled the
mailing lists, and read the documentation.
Problem details
I'm running samba 3.0.7 as PDC with WinXP clients. When I log onto
WinXP as a domain user the profile is downloaded (you can tell because
it takes a while and hub is lit up) but the profile won't load
properly. Specifically I notice that the desktop is

Shares are not listed (Access denied)
Good Morning,
I have almost the same problem.
When I use smbclient -U% -L server I get a share List and Server List
but instead of listing the shares it says "Error returning browse
list: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access Denied)".
Using the same smbclient command on the local server the shares will be
listed.
The users exist in the remote server and in the smbpasswd.
Anyone got an idea what

MS Access XP and samba print queues
Greetings,
We are running samba 3.0.7 with cups 1.1.20 to serve printing to WinXP
pro SP1 clients running Microsoft Access 2002
Our users are having problems "Creating reports in design view" in MS
Access when the default printer is a samba queue. As soon as you change
the default printer to a non samba queue, everything works fine.

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello,
I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows
Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is
successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled
correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting
thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue
for Windows XP roaming
