dovecot.index disappeared
Hello, One of my users just mysteriously lost all files from his inbox. I have "mail_log_events = delete undelete expunge copy mailbox_delete mailbox_rename" but couldn't find any evidence of accidental file or folder deletion. I logged in to find that ~user/mdbox/mailboxes/INBOX/dbox-Mails/dovecot.index and its backup were tiny, only 552 bytes, when the folder had thousands of

"Allocate entire disk now" with an existing virtual disk
Have I just overwritten some of my virtual drive, and if so, is there a way to recover? On a linux host I use LVM logical volumes as the backing for my virtual disks. Using the Virtual Machine Manager 0.9.1 GUI I did this: 1. select source machine, go into details, select virtual disk and removed the hardware. 2. select destination machine, go into details, add storage. 3. click "select

Distributed volume disaster recovery
Hi, I had a question about recovering a 3 node cluster with a distributed volume. If I create a 3 node distributed glusterfs cluster with RAID 6 on each node. What happens in the following case and what are my options. Scenario: The OS disk fails on node 2, which means I loose glusfterfs-server, the OS and associated config data while all the bricks are healthy, can I re-install the server,

Recover ZFS destroyed dataset?
I was asked by a coworker about recovering destroyed datasets on ZFS - and whether it is possible at all? As a related question, if a filesystem dataset was recursively destroyed along with all its snapshots, is there some means to at least find some pointers whether it existed at all? I remember "zpool import -D" can be used to import whole destroyed pools. But crawling around the

Convergence warnings from zeroinfl (package pscl)
Dear R-Helpers, Can anyone please help me to interpret warning messages from zeroinfl (package pscl) while fitting a zero inflated negative binomial model? The console reports convergence and the parameters seam reasonable, but these <<Warning messages: 1: algorithm did not converge in: glm.fit(X, Y, family = poisson()) 2: fitted rates numerically 0 occurred in: glm.fit(X, Y, family =

Samba 2.2.4 - files have disappeared!
Hello all. I have two linux machines, Red Hat 7.1 with kernel 2.4.9-34 (Red Hat stock), with Samba 2.2.4 installed. Both of these machines usa Samba to mount several shares from a common Windows 2000 server. These machines also run Courier IMAP. For those not familiar with email systems, Courier uses the "Maildir" method of email storage and retrieval; each message is stored as a

Recycle Bin disappeared (GNOME, CentOS 5.5, 32 bit)
Probably this is due to operator error, The Recycle Bin in GNOME disappeared, for this CentOS 5.5 (32 bit) Desktop PC. The box is fully updated. Is there a command I can use, or another procedure, to get the Recycle Bin in GNOME working again? The .trash folder is there. Incredibly rare that I use the KDE Desktop, but it is also installed on this box and the Trash folder (like the Recycle Bin

libvirt API reference disappeared from website
Hi, I think the API Reference for libvirt disappeared from libvirt.org: browsing to http://libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html delivers no content. The content is still available via google cache http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html So, is this removed on purpose? Or is this some bluff from my browser (but I checked this from different

.vimrc File Disappeared and Saw vimrc and .viminfo Files in My Home Directory
Hi, I'm not sure what's going on ;-( updated a .vimrc file in my home directory with some customized settings last week. I'm looking at my home directory now, that .vimrc file disappeared for no reason and I saw a file called vimrc and .viminfo in the home directory. Of course, it didn't take my customized settings when I used vim. Is that a normal behavior? Am I missing

A Directory/Subdirectories Disappeared - which log file to look for this kind of information?
Hi, A directory/subdirectories just disappeared on our dev box, and we don't know what happened. Is there a log file that logs this kind of stuff (such as who/date did a 'rmdir'). The /var/log directory has a lot of files and I'm not sure where to start. Thanks in advance. Mary

centos 5.5--gnome desktop--all icons disappeared.
gang, I feel dumb having to ask this... I've got a Centos 5.5 installation (it's not new, I've been using it for over a year on this machine) and all of a sudden just a few minutes ago everything on the gnome desktop disappeared. no icons, right-click doesn't bring up a context menu. the panels are still there, though, thank goodness. tried logging off and back on but that

Hi guys, one of my VM has disappeared in libvirtd. I still can see the process with ps and the configuration file is as well there. But it is not displayed or found with virt-manger/virsh. virsh list shows only 4 of 5, but there is no real error message. I restarted the daemon without solving the problem. Any idea what to do? another user "disappeared"...
Follow-up to my last post-- This time I'm the one unable to log on. The only recent change I've made to the system is that I finally got an rsync backup system working (yesterday). I have a script (that runs rsync to back up to another Fedora machine on the network) in the cron.daily folder. It appeared to work properly last night... Both the "disappeared" student and I were

WINEPATH disappeared?
About 5 months ago we looked at porting some of our custom inhouse applications to wine. We make heavy use of the PATH variable to set which dll's get used by our apps. I just installed the wine 0.9.16 redhat rpm and WINEPATH doesn't seem to work anymore. The only documentation I could find on it was this snippet from Dec 2002.
