FYI : oplock problems
FYI, I'm setting up a file server for 1000 users based on mdk 8.0, self-compiled 2.4.19 + acl patches, self compiled samba 2.2.6, 100 Mbps NIC this server is right now in a pre-prod status and is currently used only by very few users while loading several +100 MB files on a share from a NT 4 wks 100 Mbps, we got several "session cancelled" messages, and un-killable D-state smbd

Occasional problem with hanging SMB mounts.
Hello everyone. I have two linux servers* that each have four directories mounted as SMBFS shares from a Windows 2000 Server. For the most part, this set-up is working great, however, there have been occasional hiccups. Every so often, one of the servers, LINUX-ONE, logs a couple of Samba-related errors. The following is an example: Jun 30 06:30:45 mx-two kernel: smb_trans2_request:

Hanging, uninterruptible smbd-process in "D"-state
Hello, I run a samba server for windows users who access their user data via samba. The samba server is NOT the domaincontroller. This task is performed by a native windows machine. The samba server is running on a pve virtual machine. All data that samba delivers to the windows users are stored on two NFS servers (also VMs) and accessed via an automounted NFS mount for each user on the

rsync hangs, leaves defunct process
Hello, I'm experiencing a weird problem which I haven't been able to track down for 8+ weeks now. Situation is as follows: There is a nigthly backup from our main server to a backup server. The server base directory is mounted there read-only via NFS. Then we do something like this: 1. Duplicate the contents of yesterday's backup into /sicherungen/2007/02/02/01.41/ 2. Rsync

CentOS 6.8 and samba
Other than the original 6.8 release version 3.6.23-33, samba has not been functioning correctly for me under 6.8. The symptoms are that about 6-7 days after starting the server, users start complaining that they can no longer open documents on their share. Upon inspection, I find several, sometimes nearly a dozen smb processes owned by a single user, on top of those run under root. Stopping the

status of autotuning freebsd for 9.2
Andre, Are you going to have time to MFC things from -current for auto-tuning -stable before 9.2? I fear (maybe unnecessarily?) that we are about to ship yet another release that can't do basic 10gigE when sufficient memory exists. If you don't have time, then let me know and I'll see what I can do. -- Alfred Perlstein VP Software Engineering, iXsystems

Dovecot and stale nfs-locks hanging processes
Greetings dovecot mailing list. I have implemented a relatively big dovecot setup (250k users) and overall I am very pleased with dovecot functionality and performance. Setup description: * dovecot 1.0.x * FreeBSD 6.3 * Postfix (using dovecot deliver as LDA). * OpenLdap backend * Storage is NFS (Clariion EMC NFSd for Maildir, and FreeBSD NFSd for Indexes). * Locking is fcntl using

process hang when accessing a mounted smbfs
Hi all, I installed the samba 3.0.3 on a Fedora Core 2 and then samba 3.0.6-1 and still have the following problem. When I mount a smbfs, it sucesses but processes hang when they access the mount point and smbumount returns "Device busy". Since even system halt fails unmounting the filesystem, I have to switch off the machine. I tested either with smbmount command, or /etc/fstab

64-bit Windows advanced server 2003 hangs
I just had the unpleasant experience of crashing a production server _twice_ when trying to access a file share. The server is 64-bit Windows 2003 on an itanium3. My box is RedHat Linux 8.0 with Samba 3.0.0-2. Here's some messages from syslog: Mar 19 09:13:58 hedron automount[1037]: attempting to mount entry /dborg/POS Mar 19 09:13:58 hedron mount.smbfs[23153]: [2004/03/19 09:13:58, 0]

smbmount intermittent problems
I use smbmount to mount a number of NT shares from around a global network in order to sync from a master distribution which resides in linux. Specifically... uklnxsrv$ smbmount //NTSRV/share -c 'mount /tmp/temporary_mount -u 502 -g 510' -U guest%guest_passwd Frequently it works well, but from time to time the mounted NT share, for lack of a better word gets corrupted. Here are the

Aliases not working in a subclass ?
Hi folks, I''m overriding some resource attribute in a subclass. It seems that specifying a resource by its alias doesn''t work in a subclass. Looks like a bug, no ? === module-classes.pp === class module::base { file {"/tmp/test-module": alias => test-module, content => "module::base", } } class

Potential problem with -Wunreachable-code
Hello, hopefully this is the correct place to ask this... We use distcc with clang++ and I have recently added -Wunreachable-code to our set of warnings.  The problem I am seeing is the compile fails with (valid) unreachable code warnings on the slave, but passes (no warning) locally.  All machines have the same compiler version clang version 8.0.1-svn369350-1~exp1~20190820121219.79

error "Stack level too deep" on ''exec[ "perl Makefile.PL" ] ?
Hi, I''m testing puppet from the subversion trunk. I have a rather hacked-together system to install a CRM into one of my nodes, which worked (more or less) with version 0.19.3. When I tried to do a puppet run on a completely clean node it seemed to stall on the ''compilation'' part (I do an exec of ''perl Makefile.PL'' in the appropriate dir). When I broke

Most stable Xen, and LTS distros
Hi all, As here some people with long year daily practice I have some questions: Which is the most stable xen hypervisor, with good I/O performance? - Setup will be dom0 will have drbd on lvm and used as disk space for host, failover to other drbd node. - Heartbeat will be used, drbd primary activation will be done by Xen script. (It was the only real stable solution, where drbd could gone
