My PDC Conversion Project
I have 3.0.2a (with about 75 machines/users) installed as a PDC for my Win2k users and found an oddity. (waiting for a bin version of 3.0.3 for RH8.0) All was fine before I left 2.2.8.... But now when users hit <CTL>-<ALT>-<DEL> and change the password, they get "domain not available". When they log in, they get the logon scripts to execute, and anything else I do to

FYI - Why RPMs are important
Someone emailed me directly when I was asking about the 8.0 RPMs, and why I didn't just compile it. Due to the production nature of our servers which run practially 24/7, I can do an "rpm -Uhv samba.rpm" and then do an "smb restart" with very little impact. If I move to non-rpm versions, I am forced to compile first, remove the RPM, which is a longer downtime, then install

All I want!!!! (Winbind)
Well, I am a bit confused. I am DESPRATE to get winbind to use the same GID and UIDs on several machines... But I am having a headache doing it. I need to run an LDAP server, I guess, so I put one together with the most basic things. But I just simply can't get it to run. Is there any site or document I can read that will show a most basic LDAP setup that would run my idmaps? I just need LDAP

winbindd logon still requires Unix user id
I'm running Samba 3.0.2a (UCLA binaries) on AIX 5.2. The net command worked fine and joined a win 2k domain. The wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work great. However, all connections fail unless the user id exists on the AIX machine. I can bypass the problem by using username map and a dummy account "bozo". Here's a section of the Configuration # Samba config file created using SWAT

Argh!!!! Winbind Stability!
Ok... This is annoying. Winbind doesn't seem to be 100% stable. I am using 3.0.4 and Winbind is attached to a Windows 2003 server. I am cheating, using RPC rather than ADS. So here is the issue. Generally everything works. I do a wbinfo -u and all comes back. I do a getent passwd and a good list comes back as well. The problem is sometimes with individual users, I do a "getent passwd

How to check an inactive slave in a bond?
I''m using bonding in active-fallback mode to guarantee maximum availability on some critical servers. The mii mode is active so I can detect things like dead card and/or unplugged cable even on the inactive slave. But how do I check that the inactive slave is properly configured/connected to the switch/vlan? I ask this question because it has just bitten me in a part I''ll keep

a few questions about my experience with alpha1
Hi all, I've just switched from 0.99.10.6 to alpha1 on a Solaris 9 system, and I have a few questions: 1) I'm using "verbose_proctitle = yes" but I don't see the special username or IP address information in the output of ps. I've used: ps -fu dovecot ps -ef | grep dovecot /usr/ucb/ps aux | grep dovecot The process table simply shows the /usr/local/sbin/dovecot,

X11 Forwarding troubles with OpenSSH client and OpenVMS host
Hello, I searched through the mailing list archives here, at securityfocus.com, at HP and google and have come up dry. Redhat 8.0
Just in case anyone cares, I still have to run a Redhat 8.0 server, so if someone could keep the 8.0 RPMs going, I'd greatly appreciate it. As it stands, the 8.0 on the samba.org website are pretty bare. JMS

MGE Nova AVR 600 USB on FreeBSD
Hi, I've seen a few emails in the archives about problems polling MGE UPSs via USB under FreeBSD, but unfortunately I didn't find a solution in them that works for me. A few details about my setup.. The UPS is a MGE Nova AVR 600 connected via USB to a FreeBSD 6.2 box. I have tried both the nut port (2.0.5) and the svn trunk but have had no success yet. I am running nut as root to

[PATCH] Improve LPC order guess

Sorry, most of the testmaterial isn't copylefted, and I don't think it is possible to get a nice copylefted test library. That's because most copylefted material is indie, and sadly the mastering techniques

zfs send/recv partial filesystem?
Hi, I want to send peices of a zfs filesystem to another system. Can zfs send peices of a snapshot? Say I only want to send over /app at today and not include /app/conf data while /app/conf is still apart of the /app at today snapshot? I say app/conf as an example, it could be webserver/http-webservername/config or a piece of a repository. I know once the receive -F option is added
