Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
It's very possible. I've put the suggested changes in place and recompiled on a test box, but my user is out of the office today and can't test it so I'll have to wait for hte weekend to pass. Thenks for the info. Mike -----Original Message----- From: mrojava4@eastgranby.k12.ct.us [mailto:mrojava4@eastgranby.k12.ct.us] Sent: Thursday, June 03, 2004 5:10 PM To: EXT-Auleta,

Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
We tried that also. It didn't work either. But since I was pointed to bug 1221, I removed the matching of an apostrophe in util_str.c (fell back to 2.2 behaviour) and that looks like it works. My user is able to map his shares again. Thanks for all who helped. Mike -----Original Message----- From: David Brodbeck [mailto:DavidB@mail.interclean.com] Sent: Monday, June 07, 2004 4:23 PM To:

Problems Authetincating users by group in Active Directoy
Hi, I got a Samba box that is part of an Active Directory. It is working with the most basic functions, but I want to start customizing the security a little bit more. For that I want to grant access to different shares by group using "valid users = @AD+group" in the smb.conf, but hasn't worked. I increased the verbosity of the log files and this has caught my attention:

net join & DNS
Is there an option to the net command to not have it update DNS in AD? We are joining servers using the net ads join command and it's changing our static DNS entries to dynamic ones which then get deleted when AD does its DNS scavenging. It seems that dynamically updating DNS is the default. The command we're running is: net ads join -U adminuser%adminpasswd Thanks - Mike Mike

MS Patch MS04-011 & Samba upgrade
If I have a Samba server that is part of a Windows 2000 domain and is not a domain controller (all of our authentication goes against a Windows 2000 box), do I need to upgrade to 3.0.4/2.2.9? What is the interaction between a Samba server that is part of a domain and the Windows client if all of the authentication is being done against a Windows 2000 PDC? User nobody logging in to shares instead of domain us er
I am assuming that you have guest ok = yes, and that guest is the nobody account. It sounds like your name lookups are not searching winbind, do you have winbind in your nsswitch.conf file for password and group? Have you restarted your nameservice lookups (automatic on solaris, nsadmin restart on Irix, don't know about other platforms but a reboot should certainly take care of it if you

Upgrade & directory permissions
I've just upgraded the version of Samba we're running from 2.2.2 to 3.0.2a and am seeing an issue with permissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment: Samba 3.0.2a Domain Authentication to a Win2K server No Winbind Solaris

Domain group not working in valid users
Using samba-3.0.0-15 on Fedora Core 1. I have a group "Electronics Testing" on my Win2k AD server and added this to a share in my smb.conf: valid users = @"electronics testing" A user in this group is unable to connect. A local user added to valid users is able to connect, so other share settings look ok. I see this in the log: [2004/01/09 13:38:00, 10]

NT MD4 password check failed
I'm sorry for asking a question which has been asked so many times before, but I can't seem to find the answer... How do I get to access my home directory on a Linux server running Samba from a Windows XP client? I'm getting "NT MD4 password check failed" in the log file even though the Windows client is listed in hosts.equiv. More information below... I have a small home

migrating from Samba 2.0 to Samba 2.2 (AIX)
hello, I'm trying to migrate a rather simple configuration from a Samba 2.0.6 to Samba 2.2.8 , on an AIX system. smb.conf stays exactly the same & checked with testparm. File sharing works fine again, but not printing : smbd meets an internal error when a NT box tries to launch a print job. Sample of logfile : [2003/03/19 16:42:56, 10] lib/username.c:user_in_list(456) user_in_list:

wbinfo and usernames with apostrophes - bug?
Hi all, I've come across this issue today, and I think it might be a bug (or a feature ;) ). I've been testing Samba 3 on Debian Stable using the Samba packages from backports.org, which is says is version 3.0.2a. I've been testing Samba as a storage server in our NT4 Domain and have been playing with a bash script to set up user directories and permissions. Samba is set up with
