What can I lose if I use ldap compatibility with samba 2 schema?
Hi! I'm trying to use Directory Administrator from http://diradmin.open-it.org/files.php, but It only work with the old sambaAccount schema, so, My question would be: What is *really* new on samba 3 with the use of sambaSamAccount?, do I lose something if I use the compat mode? Thanks in advance for any answer, sincerely, Ildefonso Camargo icamargo@merkurio.com.ve icamargo@unet.edu.ve

PAC implementation, under "open" license.
Not sure, I'm reopening an OLD thread here (sorry). I need some answers, looking somewhere I found this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnkerb/html/MSDN_PAC.asp I'm not sure, I just gave it a brieft read. Can't this be used to include PAC data on a kerberos ticket in order to use the kerberos autentication on win2k/xp? I know that it also

Re: Open source IP phone, maybe?
Hi! I think it is a great idea. The DS80C400 needs external memory, and/or flash. It have the Ethernet integrated, but it is really slow (it is 8051 architecture), and yes, I know it can go up ti 75Mhz, but only gives 18MIPS max. I would use ATmega128 from atmel (16MIPS at only 16Mhz), take a look at: http://www.ethernut.de (project using mega128 with Ethernet, includes schematics). It

Re: Open source IP phone, maybe?
I concur with Jose. The Atmel AVR series packs a lot of bang for the buck. They also come in a 3.3v low power version for use in battery powered systems. Hi! I have been reading for about two weeks (maybe I'm reading on the wrong places). I have found as many documents as one could expect describind how to build a LDAPv3 server, or how to build samba with ldap. This far, I have failed, and have a BIG confution in the order in wich the things should go: In one document, they recommend this: samba -> ldap -> sasl -> kerberos

Possible documentation error in Chapter 8. Migrating NT4 Domain to Samba-3
Looking through this chapter today and ran across the following inconsistency under the section NT4 Migration Using LDAP Backend. Step 3 says "3. Create a file called preload.LDIF as shown in Example 8.1. Edit the contents so that the domain name and SID are correct for the site being installed." Then step 4 says "4. Preload the LDAP database so it is ready to receive the

Winbind Problems
Hello I hope someone can help me out. I have setup samba Version 3.0.0 to work with LDAP and winbind. I can join the domain with a Win2k client but if I try to login it fails. When I try to view the users of the domain I can't but I can see the groups from the Win2k client. The problem is that wbinfo -g reports correctly [root@ldap samba]# wbinfo -g Domain Admins Domain Users Domain

I do not know if this has been reported already (I searched the headers of the recent messages to r-devel) It seems that 'example' in R 2.11.0 has a problem when the help file does not contain any example. This is what happens on R 2.11.0 on Windows XP. > library(tools) > example(Rdiff) Error in file(con, "r") : cannot open the connection In addition: Warning message: In

smbldap-tools broken pipe
Hi, I am working on establishing a Samba+LDAP server with management by the smbldap tools from idealx. Versions are Samba 3.0.14a, OpenLDAP 2.2.24, smbldap tools 0.8.8 all on Solaris 8. I'm thinking I have a problem with my perl (perhaps), version 5.8.5, as I keep getting "Broken pipe" messages when using smbldap-populate, smbldap-groupadd, etc. Google produced no useful

SAMBA + LDAP + add machine script bug?
Recently I was having some trouble getting the "add machine" script to work with samba-3.0.10. Initially, I attempted to add a Windoze XP box (i.e. Control Panel ->System -> Computer Name tab) to my domain with a user ID of "root". This would always fail because there was no user named "root" in "ou=Users,dc=somedomain,dc=org". Next, I tried to add

machine account locations
OK I'm confused. Can machines be in ou=Computers,dc=somewhere,dc=net ? Every thing works fine if I configure so that machine accounts are created under ou=Users. If configured for machines to be in ou=Computers, I can't add a new machine. Error returned is "The user name could not be found." This is from the w2k machine itself. The release notes for 3.0.11 seem to say adding

urgent: winbind doesn't see groups from samba pdc+ldap
Hallo! after migrating the pdc from nt to samba+ldap my member fileserver doesn't see the groups anymore. I set it up with nss as shown in: http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#ch9-sdmnss getent passwd + group show all user and groups correctly wbinfo -u shows all users correctly, but wbinfo -g show only 2 builtin accounts. getent group fails
Hi, I've been debugging this for a day now and I am on the edge of my understanding and could use some help. I have a smbd 3.5.6 running as a PDC (smb.conf below) with an openldap backend. If I run `getent passwd` I get all the users (local and Domain) and computer accounts that I've imported into the ldap tree. If I run `getent group`, I only see local groups: root:x:0: daemon:x:1:

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all! I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC, a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core 3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows XP and a few with Windows NT. Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying
