Strange problem with icons on the desktop
Thanks everyone for helping me get the home directories working over SMB, especially Ben Ford for his workaround for the Xauth and GDM. Now I've got a problem that, most likely, nobody's ever noticed before... or is something specific to me. I've got a Linux client, and a Samba server, and a Windows 2000 server, both set up EXACTLY the same. I've got a test user and the home

LDAP builtin not found
Guys, I got the samba 3.0.4 source rpm and samba 3.0.4 patch. So I applied the patch with succefful and included in samba3.spec --with-acl-support. I build a new package using rpmbuild -ba samba3.spec and so I instaled the new package. After, I saw these messages on /var/log/messages May 26 15:02:21 spirit smbd[20303]: No builtin nor plugin backend for ldapsam found May 26 15:02:21 spirit

Samba3+samba-vscan+clamav = A big headache.
I just installed samba3+samba-vscan via ports on a FreeBSD 4.x system. Samba is running just fine and thanks to the help of webmin it was easily configured. Today I finally was able to get windows shares to be mounted on my FreeBSD server. So naturally I want to run av scans on it. I set it up to mount the entire C drive and to scan it using clamav which is also installed from ports. I recompiled

Undelete some files?
Hi, my / is located on /dev/hda6 and my "personal storage partition" - the palce where I store my important files - is located on /dev/hda9. I've deleted a couple of files in /dev/hda9/xyz/abc. Exactly I've deleted the whole directory "abc" with mc. Now hda9 is unmounted, of course. Can you give me a recipe about how to recover those files, please! Probably

Compiling --with-ldap on Solaris 9
I am trying to compile the small Samba 3.0.2a source on Solaris 9 to use ldap. The ./configure run reports: "WARNING: libldap is needed for LDAP support". The Solaris installation has it's native libldap installed in /usr/lib, but the configuration does not seem to find it. Would anyone know what I am missing? Thanks...dlb David Bost Dow Jones and Co. 4300 North Route 1 South

HI, I recently upgraded from SAMBA 2.0.7 to SAMBA 2.2.2. I downloaded the binaries (from samba.org binary packages) for HP UX 10.20. I am able to map drives and print however when I execute smbstatus (even at the root level) I get connections.tdb not initialised. This file does not exist in the /var/opt/samba/locks directory. I changed my log level to 3 to try to see what is going on but
