SPT vs. DPT Sanity Check (Samba rules)
Before wasting a lot of time going at this in the wrong list, I would like
to confirm whether my thinking is on or off base with respect to source
and destination ports.
Samba is being blocked by fw2loc even though I have accept rules
set up. I believe I can explain why, but I could be wrong.
I think that for some reason, samba is sourcing stuff on the commonly
used port 137, but trying to send

XP can browse samba by IP, but not by name - NMB issues?
I have an XP home (falcon) and an XP pro (tatooine) machine, both
behind a rh9 box (hoth) acting as firewall. I've been trying to get
samba set up on the linux box. I think I have it mostly working except
that the XP boxes won't list hoth under "My Network Places - Microsoft

My linux box is installed with samba 3.0.0 and joined with NT domain (w2k
based). Samba are working fine, until I filter the incoming traffic using
iptables (v1.2.7a) on default RedHat 9 kernel 2.4.20-8, using these rules:

DNS Name problem with mail server on LAN
Hi,
I have a big "name problem" with my internal mail server (10.0.0.152).
It is "seen" on the internet through DNAT (213.58.230.27). Also there is a
MX record pointing to the machine. Everything works fine from the outside.
However i can''t set the mail clients on the lan pointing to the mx record,
because this one points to 213.58.230.27 and the firewall

Squid
I''m attempting to setup Squid as shown on:

No response on port 80 with Shorewall
I have problem getting answer on http request from all my local subnets
but not from local subnet.
Ping and requests on ports 21 22 23 25 110 works fine.
I logged port 80 in rules files and I got
accept entry same for local subnet and other subnets.
Local subnet is 192.168.6

Not able to access website
Hi,
Trying to figure out why I cannot get access to dell.com
Their site is up because I can browse using a different firewall.
Trying to find out where the logs are located and what log files it
would write to if it were to deny browsing to a website. I can see the
[UNREPLIED] when using the shorewall status. Was hoping to know what
logfile it is writing it to.

Getting nwfilter to work on Debian Wheezy
Hi,
I'm trying to configure nwfilter for KVM, but so far I haven't managed
to figure out a working configuration.
Network setup: The dom0 (Debian 7.1, kernel 3.2.46-1, libvirt 0.9.12) is
connected via eth0, part of the external subnet 192.168.17.0/24, and has
an additional subnet 192.168.128.160/28 routed to its main address
192.168.17.125.
The host's subnet is configured as bridge

Compiling from source and networking problem

I was originally asking questions on xen-users but no one seems to have any

Samba PDC on RH9 w/ W2k SP4 Client.

iptables - how to block established connections with fail2ban?
I am working to a CentOS 6 server with nonstandard iptables system
without rule for ACCEPT ESTABLISHED connections. All tables and chains
empty (flush by legacy custom script) so only filter/INPUT chain has
rules (also fail2ban chain):

I have a proxy/firewall,
I want to dnat requests for 193.205.140.106 on port 443 towards
10.2.15.23 and requests for 193.205.140.106 on ports 4330 and 3389
towards 10.2.15.25, these rules must apply from internet, loc and fw

I would like to ask you if its possible to run Samba on an other port than

I tried once to edit the "/etc/services" File.

Problem in bridged networking

I am facing some problems in bridged networking.
I have successfully created a bridge br0 and added a virtual machine to it.
