With these to computers I want to be able to share files in-between the two of us. With samba I can see my XP computer with no problems. I just have to type in a user name and password. My problem comes in

Can't browse network using nautilus
Hi, I'n using the nautilus file browser in a GNOME desktop environment on a FC2 system. If I enter smb:/// in the location bar in nautilus I can see the network but whenever I try to look at the shares on a computer I get a message saying that I do not have permissions to view the contents. I looked in the archives and found a thread on a similar problem. This thread mentioned that

[fdo] Integration of network-softwares like samba, nfs and sftp with the desktop
Hi there, I would like to enable the desktop user to create shared folders, for example using protocols like Samba, nfs and sftp. For the user to make this possible, the user needs (on a Linux machine configured with the defaults of most current Linux distributions) root privileges. However. In a desktop environment, in my humble opinion the possibility for a normal user to configure a simple

Samba3.0b1 Issues with XP, LDAP, and ACLs
Okay, I've got a decently sized network (well, very large, multiple locations, and a small number of users... 10-15, but multiple servers). I've got Win2k, XP Home, XP Pro accessing these servers. The servers are running a version of Samba3.0b1 I pulled from CVS a few days before the offical announcement. I'm seeing some really odd behaviour with it all. I honeslty think i'm

CentOS 5.2 - Nautilus - file types are not associated with an action and icons are not displayed
Hi all, I use CentOS 5.2 as a desktop and the Gnome Nautilus doesn't display icons related to the file types and all associated actions ("open with") are lost. It is so bad, that the desktop shortcuts are displayed as ordinary files "Filesystem.desktop" or "openoffice.org-1.9-calc.desktop", and when I click on them, the Nautilus wants to know what it should

FC5. Samba 3.0.23a Win XP Pro SP2. Cannot logon from XP to samba on Fedora
Hello, I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. When I select the samba server from WIndowsXP, a dialog box prompts for the userid and password. When userid and password are entered the dialog box just redisplays and I am not logged on, no matter how many time I try. I

Network Servers window kills all Nautilus windows in CentOS 5.1?
In the process of doing something else, I happened to open the Network Servers window from the Places applet menu. When I did, it killed all my Nautilus windows on all my workspaces. (I had to experiment a little to prove this, but it did happen.) Is there an explanation for this and what? Thanks. mhr -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Solving Nautilus Samba issue
I'm trying to solve this bug with browsing SMB shares with Nautilus: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129890 I posted on nautilus-list about it and the response was basically, "We don't know enough about SMB, maybe you could get a Samba developer to help?" So, do any of you wise Samba people know what might be causing this? Thanks for your help.

Difference in gnome between centos <> fedora
Hello, I've on my home PC CentOS 6 and Fedora 13 on different disks. When I log on the gnome enviroment at Fedora knows exactly which programm was started at which desktop (for example: thunderbird on desktop 1, firefox on desktop 2, nautilus on desktop 3, ..). The same procedure on Centos takes all programs on the first desktop, so I must arrange the programs on the right desktop.

Nautilus / Desktop Icons
Hi, I've a nautilus problem with CentOS 4. It doesn't show the desktop items any more (also after dropping all gnome files/dirs from a users homedir) en the right mouse button menu also doesn't work. Googling around I've found various items about the problem but until now not a clear solution. Some people mention some 'browser mode in nautilus preferences'. But I

vgrename, lvrename
Hi, I want to rename some volume groups and logical volumes. I was not surprised when it would not let me rename active volumes. So I booted up the system using the CentOS 5.5 LiveCD, but the LiveCD makes the logical volumes browsable using Nautilus, so they are still active and I can't rename them. Tried: /usr/sbin/lvchange -a n VolGroup00/LogVol00 but it still says: LV

OT: Dropbox - Fedora Core 9 RPM will work on CentOS 5.4?
Dropbox has an RPM for Fedora Core 9 (x86). I am running CentOS 5.4 on my Desktop, which I believe is based on Fedora Core 6. Are the libraries Fedora Core 9 uses substantially different than those CentOS 5.4 uses? If Dropbox had an SRPM available, I would Download that and Rebuild, but I'm sure it is Proprietary and they won't release an SRPM to me. TIA! Lanny
