problems with telling rsync what to delete
Hi, I'm a system manager using rsync 2.6.3 to run backups. One of the main requirements is that the data is GPG encrypted before it is sent to the remote host (and stays encrypted there). As it is impossible to encrypt the entire system (which could be well over 10GB) I built a small script to determine which files were modified, unchanged and removed. It does this by generating an md5sum

I am trying to logon with 'root' and the user is in smbpasswd and /etc/passwd. I think my problem is I am not sure how to add the machine account into the samba server. I have tried just

auth_debug_passwords only on mismatches?
>From the configuration notes (1.0.10), it sounds like setting 'auth_debug_passwords' will only log the user supplied password if there was a mismatch.. When I set it (with auth_debug=no), I get a good amount of auth debug info, regardless of password matching.. ------ dovecot.conf: # In case of password mismatches, log the passwords and used scheme so the # problem can be debugged.

Very strange ACL issue
Hello, I upgraded from Samba 3.0.2 to 3.0.4 on my Redhat Enterprise system and am now seeing something very strange with POSIX ACL?s. We have several shared directories setup with per-directory group permissions (In other words each directory has its own group in active directory). This way if we want to give a user access to a directory we just add them to the group. After upgrading too 3.0.4

Subject: I see my samba server but.............
Well first problem I see is you editied your sbm.conf...Should be smb.conf ;-) Can you access it as root? Id start by making sure the permissions are correct. And that the Sharename in smb.conf matches the folder name on the server and that the path is correct. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2003 14:10:54 -0600 From:

I want my home directory to appear on the samba network but require a password to unlock. Here we don't log in and out of different windoze computers so a roving home isn't really what I wan't. I wan't anyone on the samba network to be able to access the share if they have the passsword. I have added myself to the samba users list with the same password I use to log into the

unix password sync not working
Hi, I have a samba server configured with SECURITY=USER and am having trouble getting the UNIX PASSWORD SYNC to work. When I use smbpasswd to change a samba user password, everything goes well and the samba password is changed but the unix password is not changed. Per the manuals, samba trys to change the unix password first and if it fails, it will NOT change the samba password. However, the

Users/admin unable to reset passwords
It looks like I'm having a serious problem with passwords and domain credentials. After joining the office Windows workstations as domain members to the new AD, I used ADUC to set everyone's password to some value so I could verify their apps got updated when logging in. After doing that, I again used ADUC to check the box requiring everyone to change their passsword when logging in.
