Winbind problem?
I've got a Samba PDC and a Samba domain member server. I successfully
joined the domain, started winbind and run the wbinfo -p; wbinfo -t
tests, both succeeded. But if I do a winbind -g I only get
BUILDIN/group and if I do a wbinfo -u I get "Error looking up domain
users". But ntlm_auth succeeds.
So I'm a little confused. At this point this is a minor issue since

XP Joining domain
I'm attempting to join a Samba 3.0.4 domain on a Debian linux box, with
a Windows XP client.
Problems
1) Can only get the join to work if I use the root account. On Win2k I
can use any account in the Domain Admins group.
2) The join succeeds, the unix account and the smb account are created
but the smb account is disabled, and the password contains all XXXXs.
Joining the domain works

Downgrading to 3.0.2 fixes this.

NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE and non working winbind auth
Hi!
At work I have an Active Directory domain (Windows 2003) which has the
SFU schema extensions. Recently we set up all the Linux clients (SuSE
9.2) to authenticate using LDAP (nss_ldap). But the main thing is that
we added a Samba server (SuSE 9.0, samba 3.0.14a) to host the user's
homes (somewhere in the future, their Windows profiles too). This server
also has local LDAP

I'm having trouble authenticating users. WinXP will authenticate fine if
accessed via hostname... //fileserver/share. Ip does not work.. ie

shown in error logs. wbinfo -t does not work.. returns the following errors.
A few hot fixes were applied to domain controlers as well as SP4. No changes
were made to samba server.

Winbind?
I've been fighting with winbind for several months now have yet to get
it to work according to the documentation.
I've got a Samba 3.0.4 PDC, named PDC, running on a Debian linux box,
and I'm trying to add a second linux box, FCSPRTSRV. I can successful
join the domain using net rpc join -U dharknes and at the point I can
access the samba server resources, I can do a ntlm_auth

Samba 4 samba-tool dns question
Hello Everyone,
I am used to messing with bind zones directly. With samba 4, I cannot do
that. Is the following the correct way to add a TXT record for SPF to
the zone using samba-tool?
/usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool dns add s4server.example.org example.org
example.org TXT "v=spf1 mx -all"
I am not sure it is because it is showing up with dig as "v=spf1" "mx"

Upgrading from 3.0.2a to 3.0.10 gives us a version of samba that joins the domain

Hi, all!
In the end I want to make Squid authorize users via NT4 domain.
I have Samba 3.0.10 (further named PROXY) and NT4SP3 PDC

It seems to be OK, but the following record appears in PDC's

winbind problems
Hello,
Does anyone know if there are issues using winbind 3.0.14a to
communicate with a 2.2.3a samba build?
I've setup winbind using all the documentation on the site but all I get
are the following results:
# wbinfo -u

Transforming/appending data (words in IMDB)
Hi everyone,
I am doing an analysis of reviews in IMDB and am running into trouble getting my data into the right shape for analysis.
Key question: I want to know for each word in the IMDB, whether it is over- or under-represented in a particular category (Rating x Genre). I was figuring on estimating this with a g-test, fwiw. But the basic question I'm asking here is about data

Security question
I've been googling for a while now and haven't found a decent answer to
this question.
How do I allow users to join the domain without handing out a domain
admin level account? Is there someway to limit what other domain
features this account has access to?
Thanks,
Derek

Samba3 GPO
Hi @all,
I have some question I can't find a explanation.
I have a standalone Samba3 as PDC. It works perfect with LDAP.
Now I want to implement Policies.
1) Is it possible to use GPO from ads ?
And if so, where to store this policies.
2) Or can I only use policies created with poledit from NT4 which should
be stored in NETLOGON.
Any help or links about this would be apreciated.

AD controller problems.
In my AD setup I have 3 domain controllers (dc1, dc2, dc3) when samba/
winbind are talking to dc1 everything is great when talking to dc2 or
dc3 I get this error "kinit succeeded but ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind
failed: Strong(er) authentication required" and nothing works. I
don't think its a samba config problem but my AD admins aren't real
helpful in getting samba

ogg vorbis vs speex for comedy
OGG vorbis vs speex.
What should I use for comedy albums.
Would speex be just as good for straight standup
comedy and the likes.
How do they compare when you might have sound effects,
music in them, etc.
