Problem to enter in domain
I am with a problem to enter the server samba+ldap that I configured.
When I go in Rwindow$ XP and I try to enter the domain, I type login and
the password of root.
If I type the password certain the error is ?was not possible to locate
the uru?rio name?.
If I type the password wrong the error is ?imperfection of logon: name
of unknown user or incorrect password?.

Can't print, but can see printers
I'm running "Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian" and I've been largely
successful setting it up. I have one curious problem remaining. My
wife's Windows laptop (running XP Home), can see the printer on the
server (it apparently succeeds in connecting to it and initializing
its view of the queue), but it doesn't print. Jobs sent to it just
vanish into the ether.
I don't see

Problem authenticating with Samba (security=domain) + Windows 2000 PDC
Hi all!!
I'd set up my samba 2.2.7 to auth with "security=domain" mode, but my
clients cannot auth successfully never because the samba server cannot
"talk" correctly with my PDC(w2k adv. Server).
In the computer manager event, I see authentication request but with
empty usernames......so the PDC reject the authentication request.

Can't get "getent passwd" to display winbind users
Hi,
I am running Samba 3.0.1 on a Debian/Sid machine. I have installed
winbind to access the AD of the local network, which I want to use for
UNIX logons.
wbinfo -u shows all the users of the AD, but "getent passwd" only shows
the contents of the file /etc/passwd.
I have been following the instruction for winbind (Chapter 21) in the
Samba-HOWTO-Collection.
Any comments would be

BDC and password change program
Hello,
Just wondering what I should be using for the password change program on a BDC.
Should it be:
passwd program = /usr/bin/smbpasswd -r <PDC address> %u
I'm having a problem with passwords not staying in sync between the PDC and BDC
with pass backend ldap.
The systems are all Fedora Core 4, Samba 3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.23

passwd chat for samba->kerberos passwd-sync
Hello!
I tried to run a samba3 server as pdc for windowsXP clients with ldap
backend and kerberos authentication.
I stuck with these two possibilities:
1. Samba is pdc, winxp is domain-member, users are autheticated against
smbpasswords within ldapsam.
If the kerberos password of the korresponding principal has the same
password, the users get a ticket from the kdc after windows logon.
But I

can't create printers after upgrading cups
After upgrading cups on my CentOS 6 systems from version 1.4.2-72.el6 to 1.4.2-77.el6, I am no longer able to create working printers, either with lpadmin from the command line or with system-config-printer.
When I try to run lpadmin, I get this simple error:
[root at vlsi66 ~]# lpadmin -p newprinter -v lpd://printserver/serverqueue-E -P /path/to/ppd/thing.ppd
lpadmin: Unknown

It looks like this may just be a bug upstream:

Still trying the work-arounds.

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing
works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why
can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared
directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google
and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.

Office 2007 saves files as read only on samba shares?
I've been running the same configuration for a couple of years now,
and since I've upgraded to Office 2007, MS Word and MS Excel files
save to my samba shares as -r-------- even when they are opened as
being chmod 777. Files I create/edit using other editors or windows
explorer are put onto the share with the correct permissions.
My conf looks like this:

Samba mapped drive to XP on logon

I'm having a recurring problem with Windows XP and a Samba share on
logon. More specifically, I have a Samba (v 3.0.24 on Debian Etch)
share with share permissions (not a domain) mapped to a drive in Windows
XP Pro. Whenever someone logs onto an XP Pro computer in the network
the drive isn't there.
Here's an example: Say there's a document on the shared drive and a
