JPG issue
Ok, it's taken me a while, but here's what seems to be the problem. In OSX
I see a lock on the file. If that lock is ON, it disappears. But what is
that lock and where did it come from.... Is it like a read only lock?

You have the setting on to HIDE files that can't be written to. Try turning
that off. Next, investigate why it's causing the files to get 540
permissions instead of 740 (or other).

Ok, here's what seems to be going on. When a JPG is put into a share it
inherits permissions of 540. When I chmod it to 740 it appears in file
browsers. So the file is actually there, but invisible. But I've tried
other files and everything else copies over with 740. Again, why?

Question about samba servers
I have one samba server as the PDC for our org. Another samba server is
supposed to permit access to shares based on authentication from the
aforementioned PDC. I'll call this second computer "SMB" for simplicity.
PDC has an LDAP and PAM database for authenticating all users.
SMB is setup as follows (smb.conf):
workgroup = NPC-USA
netbios name = SMB
server string = %h server

Keeping local Profiles in WinNT and W2K
Yesterday I moved my LAN domain from a W2K server to Samba and I have
problems logging on
to my WinNT 4 machine using local profiles.
My boss's computer is a freshly installed W2K and it had no problem at
all with the change.
My computer is a WinNT4 SP 6 and when I tried to log on with my user it
said it couldnt find the profile
and logged me off immediately. I used to have a roaming

samba machines as PDC and member
I have set up samba to be a AD member and no other linux boxes. It worked
well.
I set up samba to be a PDS with no other linux boxes. It worked well.
Now, I need to make a samba client that works with the samba PDS. I can join
the domain. winbind can list users and such. getent doesnt work.
I can see the authentication succeeding on the PDS but I cant access any
shares. smbclient -L DOMAIN

Turn off Roaming Profiles.
I found a workaround for turning RP's off...Fist my reason. One of my Machines would constantly crash the server when it was transferring the Profile. Since I didn't know the exact cause, and since the user rarely logs on anywhere else, I decided to do away with them. I tried several methods, logon path sort of worked but also changed the Home directory regardless when I has logon home

PDC: client has "profile.pds" trouble
Hello list.
I just installed and configured my first Samba-3 PDC and I succeeded
immediately with the "join" operation with a Win2k SP4 client.
As I afterwards rebooted and tried to logon with the domain user, both
root and regular user, I got an error messagge telling me that it was
unable to create \\servername\root\profile.pds.
In fact, my /home/profiles directory remains empty (no

NT profiles on samba server
Hi, there,
I put roaming profiles for NT4 users on samba server.
In "Domain User Manager", I set "User profile Path" \\abel\profile\%U.pds,
here abel is samba server.
It works well, but everyday several users complain. Sometime, they cannot login because of
roaming profiles. Sometimes, some users cannot run VC or VB.
Sometime, I only need to remove ntuser.dat on samba

multiple smbd/nmbd on one machine
Hi everybody,
hope my question is not misplaced :)
I have an HA-Cluster (RHEL 4 update 3, Veritas Storage-Foundation
4.1, samba Version 3.0.10-1.4E.9) an have to run 3 different smbd/
nmbd on one machine.
So my smb.conf looks different for each "service", and is also stored
in a separate folder.
(Structure is:
/home/smb/domain/cfg/ ... #config for domain-controlling

Conversion smbpasswd 2.2.8 to 3.0.13
Dear All
I'm about migrating Samba 2.2.8 to 3.0.13 on Sparc, Solaris 8.
Compilation and Installation without any problem.
Runs fine with exception of 2.2.8-user validation in the domain (no
problems with validation of WXP- and W2K-Client Machines, newly set users
(./smbpasswd -a username) works perfectly ).
I simply have copied smbpasswd 2.2.8 to the diferent directory of Samba 3.0.13.

Atlantica Online
Hello,
I've just moved to Ubuntu 11.04. I always reinstall the whole OS instead of upgrading. But now I've got the problem that I can't get Atlantica Online to work. It worked on Ubuntu 10.10 though.
I installed the new version (the Nexon one) and then tried the web launcher, but that didn't work. Then I went to the Atlantica directory and launched AtlanticaRun.exe, then I get to

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in
a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future,
there will be Linux clients.
I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba
Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that
I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a
