working with the net commands... trouble.
So, to make it simple, my domain is KRH, I am successfully joined, and
can issue wbinfo -u or wbinfo -g and get expected results. Every query
I make about the domain works
However, I'm trying to add a domain user (me) to my local Print
Operators group on this freebsd machine.
Using Samba 3.5.6, FreeBSD 8.1 Clean install of everything yesterday.
So, I'm trying to add KRH\jdown to

nested groups on samba 3.6 server broken
I am running a Samba 3.6.20 for my primary domain controller (+ main
file server) and my back up domain controller. Each domain controller
has an LDAP backend- the LDAP servers configured for multimaster
replication.
I have domain trusts established with a Windows 2003 AD domain
("WINDOMAIN") . I have enabled nested groups in smb.conf. Winbind
is enabled to support

Samba PDC (3.0.24)
Hi All,
I've been reading *lots* of pages and guides everywhere about setting up
samba as a PDC, mainly the 8 part guide by John Terpstra.
One common thing I found in all the guides I read were unstated
dependancies on the Samba version.
Tried it using 3.0.9 and it didn't have any rights (I found something
somewhere saying this eventually).
Then tried it using Debians default of

net rpc group addmem returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi All,
I'm trying to add a user to a group using
/usr/local/samba/bin/net rpc group addmem room11 dunk -Uroot%password
The user is added to the group as far as I can tell but the command
returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
This is on Solaris 10 (Sparc) and Samba 3.2.1, OS and Samba are both
configured to lookup users and groups in LDAP.
/usr/local/samba/bin/net rpc group members

Problem with 'net rpc group delmem' command
Hello everyone,
I've been setting up Samba as a PDC with good success so far. I've
run into one problem though, and that's removing users from groups using
the 'net' utility. I seem to be able to add users to groups just fine
using something similar to the following:
net rpc group addmem "Domain Admins" bob
If I then type:
net rpc group members "Domain

Samba + Nested Groups
Hello for all,
I'm having a doubt that I could not find in samba man and even google.
My need is to do with samba ldap something similar to what the AD (NT4
does too?) made with windows nested groups, which include groups within
groups at different levels (not just one).
Problem example: create a local or global group (better yet) called
GRUPO_ALL, which contains two other global groups

Question about BUILTIN\Administrators and BUILTIN\Users nested groups in 3.3.3
Sorry about the dumb question:
Are the "BUILTIN\Administrators" and "BUILTIN\Users" local (nested) groups
supposed to be populated with DOMAINNAME\Domain Administrators and
DOMAINNAME\Domain Users (respectively) by default? If I download the Redhat
Samba package, they are populated. Not so with a compiled version.
I've had a helluva time populating BUILTIN\Administrators

Group Nesting
Hey all,
Is there a comprehensive how-to on the new group nesting features? I've
found a little bit of info, but nothing that paints a clear picture of
the process. If anyone has any insight or can point me to a tutorial it
would be much appreciated.
I created the local groups and mapped them. Wbinfo and getent all seem
to be working.

adding users to group with net rpc

course), i get a NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER error.

samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi,
I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of
the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it.
Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I
understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of
the howto [0].
My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in

Winbind - how to map ADS group to Unix group
I am running 3.0.10-1.4E on RHEL4. The machine is a ADS member server. I
would like to statically map the ADS group "Domain Admins" to the built in
"wheel" group so all members of "Domain Admins" are in the "wheel" group. I
have looked at the username map option, but I don't want a group of users
mapped to a UID (this would defeat what I am trying to

how to let windbind to use LOCAL groupmaps?
Hi,
I'm trying to join ?linux machines to AD domain with the help of winbind.
In order to make account managent more easier, I want to create
corresponding group maps from every linux native group, then join
domain users/groups to the new LOCAL groupmap.
At present, BUILTIN groupmap works fine with the steps:
net groupmap add sid=S-1-5-32-544 unixgroup=admin
ntgroup=BUILTIN\\Administrators

Samba 3.0.22 error with domain accounts
I have compiled Samba 3.0.22 on Solaris 10 (sparc.) It has been
configured as a PDC with a domain of, say, "SAMBADOMAIN." It has
some predefined group mappings for the Administrators and "Domain
Admins" group. These mappings were dropped in later versions of Samba.
(I have been working with 3.0.24 as well. Unfortunately it doesn't seem

Samba4 as AD member & local rights problem...
Hi all,
have a samba4 server as AD member (security =ADS). I have no account
with "Domain Admin" rights, only a normal account with delegated
privilege to managing GPO and for domain join.
I can not manage the printserver resp. upload the win drivers. The
smb.conf option 'printer admin' is gone with v4.
I asked already in irc on #samba and got the advice to "make any
