Samba cannot find group in ADS
Hello everybody,
I have a Samba 3.0.7-Debian setup and joined a W2k ADS-domain. A User is
put in "SambaUsers" as his primary primary group. I can create files
from XP client that belong to user in "SambaUsers" The user is
successfully authenticated by samba and can access his profile. I want
him to be able to access the share "p" on samba. Without "valid

Overloaded winbind
I'm running Samba 3.0.4 on Red Hat Enterprise ES v3 (Update 2), utilizing ACLs on ext3. Yesterday I discovered that my backup application (Galaxy 5.0) doesn't back up ACLs and won't until the next release (sometime this fall). I figured that I'd do a "poor man's backup" of the ACLs by running "getfacl -R --absolute-names /shares > /root/acls" on a daily

Nas with the storage. ( and is this one domain joined? If yes, post the smb.conf also from this one. )
Burg run the cron script on the Samba server over which protocol? Ssh, then your in trouble.
This one is also not resolved, so we need more info about the setup.

Network_access_denied and no group in domain
Was: RE: [Samba] samba 3.0 and freebsd 5.1
Hi Aaron,
I deinstalled the 3.0.1 port and got the source tarball for 3.0.2a and
installed from there. I also swapped out 3.0.1 for 3.0.2 on the domain
controller when I discovered the second problem.
I can now use smbclient to log into a file share on the member server,
giving an " smb: \> " prompt but doing ls gives an error of:

SMB Signature verification failed on incoming packet!
I am running Samba 3.0.9/KRB5 1.4 on Centos 3.4 on x86 with security = ADS in a Win2k3 domain. I have successfully used kinit to authenticate, joined the domain, and wbinfo -g/-u/-t return the expected results. However, when I try and access the samba shares from a Win2k3 box, it fails telling me I don't have permissions to access the share. Needless to say I am thoroughly perplexed. I have

Samba3.0.1pre1 winbind failing against domain groups(ADS)
Winbindd is having trouble finding the Domain Admins group in my domain.
It appears to be searching for the group but does not show what domain
it's looking into - then it tries the local PC (ANC-Gentoo):

Re: Trusting and trusted domain (home mapping) problem
Hi Igor,
Thanks so much for troubleshooting all this while and we found out none of our configuration is the problem but the source code. Hope that the samba team will modify to a working code so that I can deploy it.
Actually my dateline to deploy is coming soon and I do not know what to do now..... when do you think the code will be modified and be released?
Thanks so much for your help.

samba 3.0.33 / AD / winbind / no users returned from nested groups
Hi all,
I've not found a search that addressed this problem I'm seeing with 3.0.33
(Centos 5.3 3.0.33-3.7.el5), and before I go further down the diagnostic
process, I thought I'd check if what I am doing is supposed to work.
I have an install of Centos 5.3 connected to active directory, using winbind
& idmap_rid (it is only serving files via samba).

3.0.5pre1 -> 3.0.5rc1 breaks winbindd group lookup with spaces
When upgrading our test system from 3.0.5pre1 to 3.0.5rc1 with identical
configurations we found that one share using a group name with an
embedded space was no longer accessible after the upgrade.
Here's an example of the logged error message:

Strange error messages
Hello,
I've configured a small Linux box just for sharing
some disks and route the traffic across two networks.
This works fine, since Samba can join the domain of
my NT4 PDC by Winbind.
But I get those strange error messages on my logs,
even if all seems to work correctly.
This seems regarding to winbindd:

Failed to find domain 'NT AUTHORITY'
Hello,
I recently set up a new software to backup samba share.
This software ( https://github.com/borgbackup/borg ) run on file server as
root cron script during the night and save file on external NAS.
The problem I have is that for each file copied from
samba share to external NAS, winbindd log an error
such this to samba.log.winbindd and /var/log/messages

password server and round robin dns of DCs
Hi All,
I've been having a problem recently with LDAP queries for group names in
winbind. I'm fairly certain the problem is to do with the fact that I'm
using a round robin dns name for the password server. When samba starts
it attaches itself to what I presume is the first server that returns
from the dns lookup. When that server is taken down for maintenance it
causes winbind to

Everything was mostly fine for about a month, then started getting errors
logging into shares. At first I could fix this by restarting winbind, but

Windows 2003 SP1 breaks kerberos on samba?
Hi All,
I am in no way a samba expert, but we recently joined a FC3 machine to a
windows 2003 domain using ADS. Kerberos worked perfectly in both
directions until we approved the windows 2003 server SP1 update.
After this, we could still use wbinfo -g, wbinfo -u, wbinfo -t etc, but
chowning files refused to work "invalid user". You also could not
authenticate against the samba shares

Intermitent winbind failure resolving groups via nss
Hi all,
I have 2 Linux machines running winbind attached to a Windows 2003
server in AD mode to resolve users and groups via nss (nscd is disabled
for passwd and group info).
In an intermittent way winbind stops resolving group names, for instance
the 'id' command returns just the GID and no name for the primary user
group and executables trying to resolve members of groups cannot
