Samba Printing with CUPS
Hi, I'm a bit new to the whole Samba printing thing and need some help. I am running Caldera OpenLinux with Samba 2.2.4 and CUPS 1.1.10. I have successfully managed to upload print drivers to the Samba server from a Windows NT client. I have then managed to add the printers to several windows clients without downloading drivers to them. This appeared to work fine, with excellent

Printing from Windows 2000
Hello all...I was having incredible difficulty in setting up my HP Color LaserJet 4500 to be shared on a Caldera 2.3 Linux server with access to it from Windows 2000 machines. I've been working about a week now (sadly enough) and I think I've made some progress mainly from information in newsgroups and online documentation. Here's what I have so far: I can print from the linux

Printing problems with Samba 2.2.3a
Hi, I've been using Samba 2.0.5 successfully for a long time and am now trying to configure 2.2.3a under Debian GNU/Linux 3.0. I've succeeded with the exception of one printer share. What makes this frustrating is that the share is mostly functional, but I haven't been able to find my problem described anywhere else. We have two HP printers, a LaserJet 4000N and a LaserJet 5N,

Problems Printing w/ Caldera OpenServer
I am having problems getting Samba configured so I can print. I am going from Windows XP to Samba. I don't get any error messages in Windows saying that there is a problem. It sends the document then that is it. It is like the document gets lost. I am able to print through Linux and WebMin. What should I look at next? I am using the latest version of Caldera OpenServer. I believe the version

Samba killing windows spool service
Hi folks, Whilst viewing printers on a samba 2.2.5 (just been upgraded from 2.2.4) server, both an NT and W2K machine had the print spooler service killed off at the same time. I have been reliably informed that this doesn't just happen like that! Any ideas as to why this would happen, as its a bit of a major prob. Thanks a lot, Mark Vodden Unix and Web Systems Engineer IS Operations

Compiling Samba For OPENLinux 3.1.1
Hello. I am looking to get the parameters that the Caldera RPM was made with. I have noticed that it is not being updated and would like to get the current ver. on my system, but need to have the same links to various files. Can anyone help me to find the parameters? I would be interested in making the RPMs but need to know how to make them first, maybe some direction to info on making RPMs.

Voicemail Sequence Bug?
I have a user, running CVS a/o 11/23/03, who has complained about "phantom" messages showing up days or even weeks after she has deleted them. So I asked her to let me know when it happened again, and she called a few minutes ago. The directory listing below shows a listing of the /var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/default/XXXX/Old directory, and to my surprise the messages are indeed

Are there binary for Caldera linux?
Hi there, Is there a binary-file installation of R-1.2.3 for Caldera Linux? I have Caldera Linux 2.3. The linux binary installation files at CRAN seems to be for Red Hat Linux only. Is there a way to make the Red Hat linux binary work for Caldera linux? I have tried and has no success so far. Thanks. X11 forwarding between from Mandrake(sshd) to Caldera(ssh) doesn't work!
I am having great difficulty getting X11 forwarding to work between my openssh server (Linux Mandrake 6.1) and my openssh client (Caldera OpenLinux 2.x). I get "X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication." on the Caldera box when I ssh into the Mandrake box and try to run any X app. If I make the Caldera box the server all is fine and works perfectly. CUPS Printing to PostScript Printer
I'm having trouble printing to a HP LaserJet 6MP Postscript printer. I'm using CUPS and normal UNIX printing works fine. I've tried to configure SAMBA for point and click printing. That all seemed to go okay except that what is printed is: ===================================================== -12345X@PJL JOB @PJL SET RESOLUTION = 600 @PJL SET ECONOMODE = OFF @PJL ENTER LANGUAGE =

pid and lock dir during compile
I am compiling 2.2.8 on a Caldera Openlinux box that was running 2.0.5 or some such. It already has a working config and uses samba.d dirs for it's files: /etc/samba.d /var/lock/samba.d /var/log/samba.d etc During compile I use following switches --with-piddir=/var/lock/samba.d --with-lockdir=/var/lock/samba.d However the pid files are ending up in /var/run/samba instead of

Printing problem with CUPS and lp/lpr
I know that printing on Linux is somewhat of an art form, but I have a fairly simple problem. I used the following command to configure a networked printer (HP LaserJet 8150): lpadmin -p name -E -v socket://name -m laserjet.ppd -u allow:all - u deny:none This added and enabled the printer, and I can print to it using the print command from within a GUI application and PostScript

Compiling R in Caldera Linux
I am new to Linux and its ways, and so I am having a bit of trouble compiling R. The system I am using is Caldera Open Linux 2.4. I have egcs and g77 version 2.91.66 installed and they seem to work fine. When I try to run the configure script for R, it quits at the test of g77 with an error "Can't find -lg2c". Does this error mean I am missing a library, and if so, which one?
