issues ms04-011
I just installed Samba 3.0.4 on Freebsd 4.10-rel. I can connect to it from a linux box using smbclient. However, when attempting to connect from a windows 2000 box I get an error: System error 50 occured So, I look in the event logs and found this: ====================== Event Type: Warning Event Source: MRxSmb Event Category: None Event ID: 3034 Date: 7/14/2004 Time: 11:07:57 AM User: N/A

Microsoft hotfix MS04-011, breaks Samba password change.
Hi all, I wanted to give an update on this as I know this MS Hotfix is critical and must be applied to protect against the (latest) Microsoft worm. I think I've found the problem in the code, and am currently testing a fix for this (not in the release to others to test stage yet). As soon as I'm reasonably confident I'll put a patch out there for others to test, and we'll

Status on fixes for MS04-11/MS04-12/KB828741 issues
I realise that a large number of sites have been bitten by the bad interaction between this hotfix, and Samba. I have finally managed to spend some time looking into this, and have reproduced it in my test environment. There appears to be an issue with the NTLMSSP layer used by windows clients to wrap password change requests. Fortunately, I have also shown that it is possible to construct a

problem with patch ms04-044 breaking SMB printer shares
We recently discovered after applying Microsoft Windows 2000 patch ms04-044 to our computers we can no longer communicate with our samba server we use for spooling printers. Symptoms: - when trying to display printer queue status, we get a "Failed to open, retrying" message across the top of the queue window - from within various applications, trying to open a printer dialog box

Upgrade & directory permissions
I've just upgraded the version of Samba we're running from 2.2.2 to 3.0.2a and am seeing an issue with permissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment: Samba 3.0.2a Domain Authentication to a Win2K server No Winbind Solaris

net join & DNS
Is there an option to the net command to not have it update DNS in AD? We are joining servers using the net ads join command and it's changing our static DNS entries to dynamic ones which then get deleted when AD does its DNS scavenging. It seems that dynamically updating DNS is the default. The command we're running is: net ads join -U adminuser%adminpasswd Thanks - Mike Mike

Samba 3.0.4 acl problem
Hi list I have a strange problem with my Samba 3.04 server running on redhat 9 with 2.4.24 kernel (with acl patch from acl.bestbits.at applied to it). Acls are working fine on my system, and my server is working fine as a Samba PDC (or so it seems). I can view and modify any permissions on the existing files that are being shared. If setfacl has been used to grant additional users

Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
We tried that also. It didn't work either. But since I was pointed to bug 1221, I removed the matching of an apostrophe in util_str.c (fell back to 2.2 behaviour) and that looks like it works. My user is able to map his shares again. Thanks for all who helped. Mike -----Original Message----- From: David Brodbeck [mailto:DavidB@mail.interclean.com] Sent: Monday, June 07, 2004 4:23 PM To:

Problems when upgrading from 2.0.6 to 2.2.1a
I upgraded our samba server from Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 8, and our Samba software from 2.0.6 to 2.2.1a. I've encountered two problems that I can't seem to find an answer for. In our environment, we NFS mount the filesystems to the samba server, and then share them with samba. It makes our administration easier. 1) Along with our PC's, we also use Microsoft NT Server, Terminal

Pdbedit again...
Hi, I have to edit all my samba users password expiration time and users full names. (I changed from samba 2.2 to 3.0 today.) But pdbedit doesn't work. example command: pdbedit -r -u %user% -f "%NAME%" I installed samba 3.0.5-2.src.rpm from samba.org on RedHat ES 3. Is it still a bug? Thanks! Nicole

file server using ldap
I have a pdc set up using ldap and everything works great. All it does is is authenticate user for a lab environment. I have also set up another samba server to just act as a file server for users home directories. Everything works fine but I see errors in my logs. I have security = user. I see that it keeps trying to add itself to ldap as a sambaDomainName. I know that it cant add it

Winbind + ext3 ACLs
Hi folks, For the longest time, I've had a problem changing or modifying ACLs from my window clients. Whenever I tried, I'd get this in the logs: [2004/07/29 12:36:26, 0] smbd/posix_acls.c:create_canon_ace_lists(823) create_canon_ace_lists: unable to map SID S-1-5-21-1292428093-651377827-xxxxxxxxx-1333 to uid or gid. I could change the ACLs using getfacl/setfacl, btw. After a

Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
I think I've narrowed down my problem, but I still don't know where to fix it. It appears that scanning the users.map file strips out the apostrophes and the Windows ID never matches: [2004/06/01 16:23:51, 10] lib/username.c:user_in_list(521) user_in_list: checking user o'brienta in list [2004/06/01 16:23:51, 10] lib/username.c:user_in_list(525) user_in_list: checking user

Samba - LDAP - User cannot login from 1 workstation
Hello, everyone, This is the situation : We have 2 sites; one domain; 2 samba's on every site; one is PDC, the other is BDC. They both use LDAP; the LDAP has a master on the site where the PDC is; the slave LDAP is on the site where the BDC is. There is a user (ONE to be precise) that gives problems when working on a specific machine. When the user logs in using his machine; he

Migration, which password?
Greetings! It is premature for me to send out a "success procedure for migration" yesterday. I overlooked things and I appologize for to this group. Anyway, after migration, computers, users, groups are all created and filled up with the correct membership. However, I still have the same problem with machine password and user password. Further looking into the detail, it looks

Samba and syslog
Hi, when starting samba it logs the following text to /var/log/messages, although I have added syslog only = no and syslog = 1. Samba's log file is /var/log/samba... How can I disable logging to syslog? Thanks! Samba and ISA Server
Hi everybody, I have a Samba 3.0.4 PDC configured on my network. Previously, there was a Windows NT 4 PDC, that was migrated to my Samba / OpenLDAP configuration. Everything is working fine, except our ISA Server. Indeed, ISA Server was previously configured to let users that belong to the "Internet Access" group to surf. During the migration phase, we did not change anything.

Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Hi every body, As you may have guessed, I've got a problem ;) What I had : - A PDC Server (Windows NT 4 SP 6a), called SERVER1, for the domain TEST - A BDC Server (Windows NT 4 SP 6a), called SERVER2, for the domain TEST Everything was working fine. Now I switched my NT PDC to a Samba PDC, and I make SERVER1 a BDC for the domain. Until now, no problem. I use samba 3.0.4,

Winbind & user ID's on multiple servers
We're looking at setting up Linux Authentication to our AD servers using winbind and need to know if there is a way to keep all the user IDs in sync across the Linux servers. The way I see it now, the user ID is assigned numerically depending on the order users log in to a server. Could make for issues if NFS mounted directories are involved. Thanks - Mike
